NORCAL INSTALL! [Main Information and Ranbat Update Thread]
totoroslayer replied to Chun's topic in Archive
So, I'm going to see if I can negotiate some rates with the nearest Comfort Inn. It's the closest place to stay, and it's about a 15 minute walk or about a 5 minute drive. How many people would need a place to stay? Would it be for one night or 2? Are you going regular (2 or 3 to a room), poverty (4 to a room), or ultra-Smash-Brothers-Melee poverty (6 to a room)? -

Shoutouts to Chun and everyone else who kept NCI running on time. I think all the players were happy, the stream was happy, and we all had fun. I think you're on to the winning formula. Shoutouts to WallJumpMan for his first win. And to Dacidbro for making him work for it. It's like I can see you guys level up as you play each other. Shoutouts to CopperDabbit and his mighty drunken master style Arakune. And finally, shoutouts to the guy who broke my chair in the back room. Accidents happen. But you chose how to deal with it. I'm going to have to work to find out who you are. And the harder I work, the grumpier I get. I think GammaGearJustice had the right idea... Some form of public humiliation in song form? -

Got my copies yesterday, so I have 2 on hand myself! One is extra, though, so if someone wants it, I'll sell it at cost. Also, anyone up for som Gundam Extreme Vs at NCI? :D -

Awesome to have you here. If you want, I have some Play-Asia coupon codes for $5 off, so that will at least get you free shipping. I'm getting an Asia region version. Should be in my grubby little mitts by the 20th or so. -

This. Crosell and I grinded like 18 matches of SSF4AE and the grand finals KOF match STILL wasn't over. -

Hey, sorry. I haven't checked on this thread in a while. His name is Nate, and I have all the drawings that were left behind. Which one is yours? And as far as I know, only Dacid is going to Canada cup. So if you all can live for one NCI without his Bang trolling, NCI should be just as enjoyable. -Myung -

Lost and found. Well, mostly lost. Did anyone come away with a copy of Super Street Fighter 4 for ps3 (not arcade edition, just regular)? Also, did anyone find a yellow cordless power drill? Thanks, Myung -

Shout outs to: Chun, our tireless NCI ringmaster Crosell, OrionXElite, Tone, Tsubasa, and all the other TOs I didn't get a chance to meet. It's a thankless job, and you guys step up. My hats off. Rin, Jay and Coopa for being their usual A/V wizard selves. One day I will have non-shitty internet. I promise. Solex for clawing his way up the bracket. Jin it to win it! Dacid for winning at his own game and bringing attention to a serious problem for white Americans: poverty. Fred, for donating a pint of blood and STILL showing up to play games. He showed us he could win GG matches even if he was down one blood pack. And to everyone, absolutely everyone, who came to play and support the scene. You've re-motivated me to arrange meetups for anime fighters. I saw firsthand that NorCal has the skill, we just need to play together more often! We have plenty of people we don't even know about yet *cough cough Guilty Gear cough* who are strong as hell. Let's get some regular meetups happening! If you want to stay up to date with the news of GC and weigh in on decisions, keep track of our Facebook page ( http://www.facebook.com/gamecenterarcade ). See you again soon. P.S. If you enjoyed Gamecenter, write us a review on Yelp. It really does help. -

Just a reminder, Thursday Night Throwdown will be happening this week, so tomorrow might not be the best for a GG meetup, as we will probably be packed to the gills with SF4AE and Marvel 3 players. -

Where do you get that figure from? The GH3/Rockband Beatles test gives you an AVERAGE of the input lag over 15-20 datapoints. Even dual monitor tests give you an average. I've done both on multiple monitors, and when you average 15 or 20 trials, the results are never off by more than a millisecond or two. I can believe if you took a particularly low result from a GH3 test and compared it to the highest datapoint you got with a dual head monitor setup, you might see a spread of 10ms, but the averages always remain about the same. I find this is often due to the fact that when people play side by side, they try to sit away from each other as much as possible, and as a consequence, are not sitting square in front of their controls. With TE sticks, you always have it on your lap, dead straight in front of you. This is understandably why half circles and the like feel subtly off. The solution is either to use your own controllers (the new parts should be arriving tomorrow so all the cabs can support external controls), or man up and get friendly with the guy next to you. -

Again, thanks to everyone who came and made this possible. Through all the hiccups and hype, we broke all kinds of NCI records (which I'm sure Chun will be glad to tell you guys all about), and you have shown yourself again to be the nicest, chillest fighting game community around. I've had tournaments half this size for other games that verged on chaos. I can't wait to see you all again. Hahah, yes... what you were smelling was this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stinky_tofu The restaurant near us is (unfortunately?) renowned for this dish. -Myung -

To all those who have already arrived in town for the tournament: Welcome! Feel free to come by tonight and introduce yourselves. I'd like to personally greet as many of you as I can. Also, if you've never played Gundam vs Gundam NEXT before, this might be a good chance to get a leg up on tomorrow's battle royale. I also wanted to post here for people worried about a Gundam competition not happening tomorrow, if you're still in town/around on Sunday, from 3pm till 6pm, we have Gundam Happy Hour, where all the games of Gundam will be heavily discounted ($0.25 per play). It would be an ideal way to settle scores. -Myung -

What I could arrange is a round robin bracket for people who are not in a bracket/have been knocked out only. That way, as people are knocked out and feel like entering the Gundam vs. round robin, they could just play everyone else who has been knocked out. -

Updated the Gamecenter location page with alternate parking garages in case the one closest to us fills up. New games too! Also, while this was on the equipment registration page, I figure I'd put the request out here, if anyone has a giant fan/blower type thing, like something that can really move some air, I'd like to talk to you. -Myung -

The pub actually starts winding down around 1:30-ish as well. I'm more than happy to stay if people are still playing... but I reserve the right to call it around 2-ish or so. I technically do still have work the next day. -

Official Gamecenter Tournaments and Events Thread (San Mateo)
totoroslayer posted a topic in Archive
Hello all! We (Gamecenter) are a new arcade that opened up in San Mateo, and I was advised to start a thread here for our tournaments and events. More info about the place itself can be found here: http://www.dustloop.com/forums/showthread.php?11890-New-arcade-in-San-Mateo-%28UPDATE!-FINALLY!%29 Gamecenter is excited to announce our first ever event, the Gundam vs Gundam NEXT tournament. It will take place starting this Saturday, July 9th at 7pm. Pilots will be randomly put into teams of two. If fewer than 16 teams are present, we will do a round robin tournament, otherwise, we will run a double elimination bracket, best 2 out of 3 matches. The grand final match will be 3 out of 5 matches. The cabinets will be turned to event mode, so no winner's handicaps. The entry fee will be $5 and the venue fee will be purchase of a wristband (also good for play on the console cabs all day!) Prizes for the first 3 finishers, 70/20/10. After the tourney, we'll keep it on freeplay for casuals for a few hours, so you can get your GvG fix in. As any questions and issues arise, we will answer them and update our post as needed. I'll see you all Saturday!
