  2. Hi guys. Our SF guys are holding a SFV release tournament on Feb 20th which will also have Xrd as a main game. I don't know if this overlaps with anything and it's late notice, so if you can't/don't want to come, it's cool. I just got the info this morning due to some miscommunication with the SF guys. Here is info dump ( http://pastebin.com/DzvSiCHM ) SUPER GONQ BATTLES 2016 Hosted by Algonquin College's Video Game Club Location: Ottawa, Ontario. 1385 Woodroffe Ave. Algonquin College, Robert C. 3. I'm not going this year, too expensive. Yuri told me he felt the same way. Doesn't help that it's being run on PS4 for no reason so we all have to buy new sticks. Ugh.
  4. oh my god i laughed out loud at your avatar, tony
  5. Good content but the text is hard to read. Maybe next time you could use a different stage so that there's more contrast? Also the last bit of text is a bit hard to read in time because it cuts out so quickly.
  6. Great. Looking forward to seeing you guys again. :3
  7. I'm strongly considering coming to MTL for those tournaments! Any chance the organizers of that Saturday tournament can be convinced to run it on PS3, or do I have to find a PS4 stick to borrow for it?
  8. Oh, that clip is very helpful. Ky's superjump can't reach, but the airdash is slow enough that he has time to do a double jump, which will reach. That is the kind of thing I was looking for! If Ky can reach then yeah, Faust's escape options with superjump airdash are very limited. Thanks. WRT durandal CSE, I saw Nage going for crouching under it and punishing and I missed it a few times so I figured it wasn't possible, but testing it now it seems to be, so I'll work on that. Nage crouching under it looks like this but when I went to dig that up I noticed Rion wasn't doing a tight setup, maybe because he wasn't scared of Faust doing a 6P+H OS because Faust's 6P has a crappy hurtbox at that range?
  9. Thanks for the reply. Faust's airdash can be cancelled with drill FDC so the length doesn't matter, and the speed doesn't matter either if I can't reach him during it. Even if I manage to tag him with something like j.DP, I can't knock him down or get him back in the corner, so he's essentially escaped. My question was how, specifically, to stop this.
  10. Against most characters, if they try to superjump airdash out of the corner and Ky is spaced properly, he can superjump airthrow them back into the corner to catch it, but Faust's extremely high superjump and long airdash seem to make this impossible. I don't see Fausts going for superjump airdash to get out of the corner, though. Is there another good option against it? Mixing in superjump "love" seems decent as well, I see good Fausts go for that occasionally. Faust's ability to crouch block under airdashes during DC CSE and avoid the high part of the mixup seems to limit Ky's pressure options to low/throw and frame traps, so being able to catch his corner escape attempts seems really important.
  11. actually the problem was you discounted other parts of the video in advance, a dishonest technique known as "poisoning the well," as well as the fact that you ignored my previous post that already explained exactly how to beat 6H. these tell me you're not actually open to changing your mind, so it's not worth my time to reason with you.
  12. lol no thanks. i'm done with you
  13. oh wow i just looked up some ain vs hase and ireul is right. ain opens with 6H every round and does it over and over, occasionally doing stun edges to chip and stop pokes and there's nothing hase can do. every round goes to time and it's a 10-0 matchup for ky. sorry for doubting you, ireul
  14. I hope you all had a good Dizzy's Birthday! This goes double to those repping Dizzy's husbando
  15. So he's doing it far away or what? K Mappa completes in 20f, which is still faster than Ky 6H. If you KNOW exactly what he's going to do, as you claim, that will net you a counterhit into combo. BDC is probably the best defensive option in the game. It lets you avoid many situations where other characters are forced to block or commit to a risky reversal. It's somewhat hard to use, but thanks to the buffer in Xrd, it's a 3f input to do it in 1f gaps. It's also not actually hard to jump FD out of backdash, you just roll to upback and hit some buttons. You can do it pretty often because it's so low risk if you know where to look. Blitz also benefits from the buffer. Ignoring your casual racism, it's pretty attainable to hit a 3f window consistently. Why are we talking about reversals though? Is he doing this 6H while at neutral or while you're knocked down? If he's doing it while you're knocked down, I already told you how to deal with that. edit - Other stuff that is under 23f: Slayer 6H. Slayer 2D. Slayer 2H. Dead On Time.
  16. Yeah, Ky 6H is basically a safe jump, so you mostly have to block it like every other safe jump in every fighting game since SF2. If he's doing it meaty, IB and either respect his microdash followup or poke/BDC out, or you can blitz it on reaction since it's 23f startup. If he's not doing it meaty, just stuff it with 5K or 2P or almost anything really, since again it's 23f startup. These options work with every character in the game, and Ky has had that move since at least vanilla XX, excepting AC. edit - Moreover, even on meaty, if Ky does an early 6H such that only the tail hits, it won't have enough active frames to catch BDC jump FD, whereas if he does a late one, Slayer can do reversal Eternal Wings and Ky can't time it to beat both, since doing it such that it recovers just in time gives him 8f of leniency, which means 6f active+2f recovery, and BDC is 7f invuln. So actually Slayer is one of the only characters in the game who has non-Blitz options against meaty 6H.
  17. i did not keep the brackets because i asked out loud if anyone wanted me to keep the brackets, multiple times, loudly to the entire room, and absolutely everyone said they didn't care. now multiple people are coming to me complaining that i did not keep the brackets. really, guys?
  18. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q7b-O0cSXVM this is thelo vs me in tournament match, then thelo vs someone else (notice the char select and button config) who used the same char/colour, probably kazuhiro. there were no casuals on the recording setup that i know of during the tournament, i was running things pretty quick
  19. I talked to Krackatoa and he says we can run whatever games we want, so there will be side events of whatever. Let me know what games you guys want and I'll run them I don't think anyone in Ottawa plays BB now that Psykotik is back in Waterloo. We regularly get around 16 people for weekly Xrd tournaments though. We've even got a lot of the SF crowd playing it a bit now. edit - And DerQ is right, we've never really had a BB core. A couple guys play it once every few months and that's about it. We probably play it about as much as random stuff like Yatagarasu, maybe less.
  20. We usually have side events so I suspect this one will too, but I don't know. I'll go find out and post again when I know for sure. I'll run whatever if no one else wants to.
  21. This is really late notice, but if anyone is interested:
  22. Far drill is really strong but I feel you really don't want to block it, since if he spaces it at the back of your sprite you can't poke the puddle before he summons far Nobiru, and if you airdash at him he can instead do close Nobiru. It's not airtight for him, but it makes us play his gameplan instead of ours, which is unfortunate. Instead, work very hard to not stand at a range where far drill hits. It's 18f startup so this is pretty doable, but it kind of sucks because that's Ky's natural range to poke with f.S and stun edge YRC. Still, better than giving him an opportunity to get started. f.S (10f) does not beat Zato 2S (9f) if both are timed correctly at round start, or at even frame advantage. Instead I prefer 2P since it's very low risk and on CH combos to f.S slide for knockdown (easy to space since he's crouching). 6P is also a decent choice since it trades with 2S and beats f.S clean, though watch out as the trade puts you at f.drill range. It also as a lot of whiff if he elects to do something else though. Drunkard shade is okay. It handles unpowered TK H j.stun edges and is decent against ground S stun edge. Watch out for trying to jump over the reflected fireball to hit him, since he can YRC it and airthrow you. Ky 2S safely hits Eddie while he's hiding behind drills, which combined with powered stun edges beating full screen summons on reaction (for knockdown even!) can let Ky run a zoning strat until he gets something going. I really like Ain's setup of meaty H charged stun edge, whiff split ciel, do frame traps and another H charged stun edge if they block everything. Zato's defensive buttons are kind of garbage so you can really go nuts as long as you're careful of abare 2S and of pushing yourself to f.drill range. Generally not a fan of going for overheads here since they are reactionable and if it doesn't pan out you lose momentum. Frame trapping and throwing is strong enough and forces him to make a difficult guess if he ever wants to get out.
  23. From 2 weeks ago: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MDZGxmVXI7E pre-tournament casuals https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s40sdjQlxMc tournament footage edit - recording from my win streak on the king of the hill station: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OPux5_IoSjs edit - Okay, everything should be labeled in the comments now. Sorry if I got anyone's handle wrong. The first casual set cuts out in the middle on a match so I think there was an error with it. Hopefully that will get fixed. If it gets reuploaded, here's the current labeling so I don't lose it 0:35 JackDRipr (EL) vs Alec (CH) 8:02 JackDRipr (PO) vs Sora (MI) 16:01 LiveWire (SI) vs Sora (MI) 22:08 JackDRipr (PO) vs Sora (MI) 32:15 JackDRipr (EL) vs LiveWire (SI)
  24. The tournament 2 weeks ago is on dag's challonge account I think. I don't know how to look it up but maybe he can find it or something. I'm up for singles unless we can come up with something cooler.
  25. Welcome to the thread, Dinosaurzez. Ian said he wanted to edit the footage a bit to remove dead air and to split it up into different videos since it's hours of footage. He hasn't had time yet, though. Hopefully that will happen soon and it will go up on a youtube channel dedicated to this sort of thing. Someone will post the link to it in this thread when it's ready, I'm sure. Sorry for the wait.
