I'd say that's spot on. I think Tager is halfway there to being a cool grappler with the magnetism and all, it's just that his grabs are so over-the-top that any actual good thing in his kit that isn't a grab gets nerfed for the next installment. Potemkin feels more cohesive to me (Not sure about Xrd, not in a position to play it). -

It just baffles me how anyone could think "smoother inputs" = "dumbed down". I mean, other than people that use casual as a slur. Your dick doesn't get bigger everytime you screw up a DP input, so nothing of value is lost when you make the input system a little less clunky. -

b-but muh frcs I do agree with people in the thread that ArcSys can be bloody terrible at supporting the international market though. Waiting for the European release of P4A was horrific, and having such long delays in general isn't a good thing. Getting more exposure through ads and shit is gravy, releasing the fucking games in any sort of timely fashion is what's important. I've heard good things about the release of this game though, which is nice. -
When the person making the tier list thinks it's not quite a 5/5 matchup, but not quite a 4/6 matchup either. It's a shorthand way of saying "It could be either of these or inbetween", so I'm not seeing a problem here.

I don't have a clue about the actual story (and don't care really, guilty gear story + ramlethal looks silly) but something like "made a bargain with a fool" would make sense as a lyric to me, like you've got involved with either an idiot or a backstabber (or both).

While the Engrish is pretty poor, it's still really easy to know what the song is on about. The song is about some incoming calamity and how they (presumably Sol and Ky) alone have to stand up to it "back to back".

I don't know about that reasoning. If you buy the game, not only are you supporting the release of the game in that region but if there's enough sales that might lead to Arcsys/Aksys (Not quite sure how much aksys do) considering physical copies since you've shown there's enough of an audience. Maybe that won't happen, maybe they might just stick to digital, but then again not purchasing it just means that there might not be enough sales to justify localisation, at least in any sort of timely fashion. Honestly, letting something like not having a physical release stop you from playing a game you presumably want is just insane to me. EDIT: Wait, you're not buying the NA one because it's NTSC? What the actual fuck?!

I don't know about that, the thread has been decent so far. I'd definitely agree with you on English Ragna. I'd also say that when Ragna isn't being angry Seitz is much better at making him sound like a normal human being whereas the JAP voice actor always sounds sort of angry and bombastic no matter what. I definitely prefer the English Dub over the Japanese dub, mostly because I don't speak Japanese so you miss out on mid-battle quotes (Relius' ENG astral against Carl in Extend is god-like) and also because while the Japanese dub is overall really good, I can't stand JAP Taokaka, Makoto (Not that her ENG dub is THAT much better) and Platinum. -

It's because fanservice usually comes hand in hand with a shitty design (That's 100% of BB Makoto but while Ram does have the stupid belts I'd say her problem is that her design is just a bit of a mess). Also, pandering like that can put people off. Sol is pretty bad for that, what with him just being a big walking queen reference trying to be unaffected and cool. Also, even after watching some vids of Ram I'm still not sure how she works. Like, she sends out orbs, and they turn into big swords and shit? -
If I'm frank, the LE cover art in both forms are really fucking poor anyway. They seem like they'd fit a skeezy visual novel more than an actual fighting game cover. And if them changing (Not convinced that it's a censor) the artwork is a slippery slope then a 90 degree line is a ramp.

We're not talking about NES cartridges, I highly doubt that text was an issue in the slightest. I'm saving up for the NA version personally, I really liked the translation plus I'd like to know what the fuck I'm doing when I play Abyss and get a powerup.

So why did they think that was a good idea? Hell, I'd say the idea of Danger Zone (You pretty much get put in a negative warning sorta state) is neat, but it being random along with it pausing the match is just absurd. Even just making it so that several clashes or whatever (maybe attach it to the stun meter if they still have that) causes both people to stagger or flinch and then Danger Zone happens would be much better. -

Holy shit, May's new theme is amazing. Hopefully we can get a listen to some other themes. Sol's, Ky's, Axl's and Slayer's themes are what I'm hoping for.

Now, I'm not that good or knowledgeable about this game, so feel free to correct me, but I thought Terumi was really good at getting heat, it was just it was really hard for him to get a solid hit and convert that heat into damage. Having a super that's really easy to land because of the really ambiguous animation is surely something he'd really like?

Well, I wasn't using "get on my level" like it, I was just joking that my opinion was a bit controversial. Also I don't play arakune, doesn't mean I want him to be unviable because he's an interesting character and it's a shame to lose out on his unique kit.

I actually like arakune unironically and find him really fun to play against. I also would like buffs for him.

Because it was cool as fuck to essentially throw down the gauntlet and buff yourself up while shredding your health.

Honestly, I'd just love it if they made some way of getting bang's OD buffs (just fu rin ka zan, none of the "stop them from bursting" shit) to last for the rest of the round, or hell, even get ragna to lose his health when he ODs like pre-CP. I mean, it's a terrible idea, but that flavour though :C

I suppose it all comes down to how much is too much. Kokonoe wouldn't be too much in a game where everyone had access to unblockable setups and amazing normals and whatever broken thing you can think of etc. but I don't think a game like that would be entertaining to watch or play. I think one of the problem is that combos are inherently one-sided because as soon as the initial hit lands, the other person doesn't get much of a say while they're getting juggled and stunlocked around. That doesn't need to be a bad thing, it makes it easy to reward people for landing hard-to-hit attacks other than just making it do 3-4k off the bat since the person has to follow up mechanically. It does break down as soon as stuff like extend rags jesus kicking into 3-4k like no one's business and while you can have that be "balanced", it's not particularly good design. I like the combo system in general for BB, you do a attack and in general you can go "oh this attack hits here and quickly enough to get them in time, I'll do that" which is much better and intuitive than no combos at all or dial-a-combos from games like UMK3, but I will admit I get bored watching characters like Litchi, Arakune or Unit Cookie Dough when they can just combo forever into death. Case in point, the big discussion where people would gladly have Haku's OD nerfed in return for more options.

I'd agree completely if Kokonoe wasn't in the game. Other than that, yeah the balance is pretty good. Doesn't mean you can't wish that the lower tier characters get a little bit of love, even just to make playing them feel better (Izayoi's buffs for example). Improvements can be made, and what better time to ask than when a balance patch is due?
