It's similar to Carl's in that you only have a few frames to barrier at the beginning of the dash. I think Carl's window is 6 frames. If you miss it you get a B normal.

Just messed with it. You do press 4 after holding D to cancel without traveling. And that combo works for trail 30. Some trouble I had was that you have to make sure you get red lock on the 5dd and you need to still be in overdrive when you hit the super. It's extremely tight timing.
