Hey guys I'm moving to DC soon for college. Are there any weeklies/monthlies/tournaments in DC proper or are they all in Virginia and Maryland?

The Philippines Thread #9 - Genesis Beyond the Beginning

I play Persona, Smash, and Guilty Gear, and wanna get into DFC or UNIEL. I know Imperium and Rumpus, they're 17 and 30 mins from the hotel I'm staying at(not counting the god awful traffic). Some questions: Do people still bring their own stick? Do people pay the console rent + entry fee for tournaments? Is commentary in English or Tagalog? Can you ask game stores(specifically datablitz) to import from Japan(I know mine had Japanese Xrd in it) -

[P4AU] Kanji Tatsumi Combo Thread "Over? Its never over!"
Qispichiq replied to A.X.I.S.'s topic in Kanji Tatsumi
I'm not great at combos but I found a few things: 214C/D > 2B > 236C >236A is still a thing, I think it does more damage then in P4A CH B > 214C seems to not be consistent anymore 5C >2C is a true cancel now -
Playing Adachi in training mode, he felt like a better Kanji, but in game he doesn't feel like that at all. I try to play him like a character that waits to well-place his moves and "open up" the opponent, am I playing him wrong?

Qispichiq replied to ehrik's topic in P4A Online Play
I'll enter but you'll need to wait for the US release or else I can't make it -
I'd do it from the support I got here, but I'm going to wait for Jebaily to sort out his event once Xrd has a release date before I make the kickstarter On a sidenote, kickstarter doesn't allow "contests" as projects so idk if we can even but it on there but they probably mean like drawings
-
yeah sorry....I'm just over-sensitive, it's a habit I have to break, sorry
-
I'm sorry that I've ignored criticism, but I haven't been in the community for very long so I didn't know about NEC :P, I'd still want to do it but I'd put it on my calender
-
That seems like all the more reason to do it. If players can't afford to go to every major they should have one major specifically for their community, and EVO. If you're not capcom chances are your community has at least two games with large communities that aren't going to be there. This is especially true about Anime. Imo there are three tournaments that should be in any FG community member's agenda: the community's EVO, your local major, and EVO. I understand there are people who can't afford to even fly out to one but if we give threatment to whatever game isn't at evo as a main game, we could reel in players that don't play the game at EVO. This year for example would probably less Xrd players as they would choose to go to EVO, but then we get a surplus of AH3, Persona, BB, Melty, and UNIEL players to make up for it as then EVO is off their calenders

Update: Jebailey has expressed he still has interest in making an ANIMEVO:
-
Yeah I do, and I'm going to try to do this as I trust jebailey more then me to know how to run a tournament. What's his contact information? Oh of course, I'd at least run a few locals beforehand if I did it myself I already calculated all that and have a pretty solid idea of venues from asking around. I'd say 50 set ups minimum are pretty good if this was a true major. I didn't know you rented setups for tournament however, so I'll look into that I'll be the "host" but I think it should be left to someone with more knowledge than me
-
Maybe not for the first one, even EVO started somewhere. But EVO gets 300+ people every time they put an arcsys game on the main roster so I think if the community, and if we really wanna shot high arcsys and Atlus with their pot $$$$$, really tries it can work. November and August are revealingly free, we could do a late summer or early winter time That's not the point, the point is, EVO only puts one arcsys game on the roster every year if that, but Arc has 5 series that have lively scenes. I fell like this belittles the communities that don't make it into EVO that year so I want to give those guys something to look forward to other then EVO if their game doesn't get in. In other news I made this nice logo last night out of excitement, I wanted to go with the name "Ragunaroku", Katakana transliteration of Ragnarök, due to how much Japanese love putting German stuff in their games I've also looked at some venues, but yes we do need to figure out timing and attendance number estimations, anyone who can help calculate this feel free to add to the thread

Talking to people in the chat, I've figured that really, outside of Arc Revo in Japan, Anime fans have nothing to go to other than as side events for Capcom, Midway, and Namco-dominated tournaments. Smash, due to it's isolation from the FGC for a long time made it's own EVO, Apex, and I feel we should do the same, but not out of some false supremacy of our community, but because THERE ARE TOO MANY ANIME GAMES! I mean we don't even know if anything passed Xrd is getting into Evo 2015, yet Persona, BB, AHLM!!!!, and UNIEL have communities that would gladly go to Evo for them just for side tournaments. This is why I suggest we have a big event in addition to EVO to get all of the love for all Arc and French Bread games in one big tournament. Problem is, I have no TO experience, nor a venue, so I need the help of the community to make this happen. Please reply so I can see how much of a support base we can get on board and fill free to provide any skills you can have to help.

didn't aniplex do the P4 Anime So if you don't know what Apex is it's basically EVO for Smash(before Smash actually got in EVO). It's hosted in New Brunswick, New Jersey and we are pretty positive they will be hosting in the same venue as last year and in some time in January. They have had a P4A Tournament in 2013, but other then that there have been no representations for the community. Although I doubt this will be a major event on your check list, I'm sure at least some of you are also Smash Fans, so I was wondering how many people would be interested in running side tournaments? I'm sure we could get space, the Apex guys give space away for small Indie developers. Let me know in this thread so I can get a feel of how many people would show, and what we should run other then P4AU and (if we can) an imported Xrd, i.e if CP, Love Max, or UNIEL should get in. Apex main website UPDATE: I have e-mailed the Apex staff about side tournaments and I'll wait for them to get back to me UPDATE: Persona is on the roster at least

Do you prefer the English or Japanese voices?
Qispichiq replied to Grimsley-San's topic in Zepp Museum
In P4A, I'm really mixed but because ArcSys games don't let you have different voices for each characters, I generally use English and also because I played P4 in English, but I will admit I like Chie's and Naoto's voice better in Japanese(FUCK TEDDIE'S JAPANESE VOICE THO). For other games and anime I generally follow the rule of how many character's names are in katakana to decide which I use, if the game allows for separate voices I generally put Japanese and sometimes other East Asian characters in Japanese, and put everyone else in English. I'd actually really like it if they had an option for everyone to speak their mother tongue in fighting games, but I guess that would be hard to pay for. -
Thanks for replying y'all! The game sounds really interesting and I think I might pre-order Xrd. One more question: Is Xrd so radically different from +R that people will still play +R, I guess because I don't want to pay ~15$ on a soon to be dead game (⊙﹏⊙✿)
