I'm thinking about dumping Ky for a bit and trying out Zato. Aside from his lousy normals and getting used to Eddie, I'm not sure how I would deal with negative edge since I don't always have access to my stick. Using default bindings sounds like a pain with only my thumb access to the four face buttons, and I don't really feel like adapting a claw grip which probably wouldn't be all that useful on a DS3/DS4 anyways. Googling pad mappings turned up pretty much nothing besides stuff for NRS games, so I thought I'd start a new topic and see if there are any Zato pad players and see what they use. I know that Latif played Zato on pad, so it's definitely possible. Anyways, here's my experimental bindings that I'm working with for the time being: P = L1 K = L2 S = R1 HS = R2 D = O RC = X

I just played about 30 minutes, coming from <5 hours experience with AC+R and <50 hours experience with Xrd. Started with offline; input lag was very low, I couldn't feel any noticeable delay. Online felt really laggy, played a Pot. Maybe it was my (wired) or his connection, but gameplay was terrible. Maybe 10f lag? Felt worse than the average PS3 Xrd connection. Only settings changed before jumping in was changing "windowed" to "fullscreen" and resolution to 1080p. After changing the fullscreen resolution, the program stopped outputting graphics so I had to kill the game. Also, couldn't find any menu option to close the game. Had to alt-F4 to close. So, a rough port with the gameplay intact as far as I can tell. Anyone else have any impressions?

Is the PS Plus color set only usable on PS4?
balFrog replied to balFrog's topic in Guilty Gear General
Nah, US deadline for downloading the PS plus colors are 2/10. On that note, I'm an idiot. There are separate downloads for the PS3 and PS4 versions. So, it looks like I also missed out on the PS4 christmas colors. Whatever, isn't that big of a deal. -
"Bought" it in the PSN store this morning, yet there it does not show up in PSN downloads list on my PS3 and the colors have not been added to the game. On that same note, I noticed that the Christmas Color pack says "PS3" on my PSN download list. Should I decide to pick up the PS4 version of this game, will it transfer over or did I miss out on a separate download at the time? EDIT: For those who haven't picked them up yet, the PS plus colors are still available until 2/10 in North America. I've put in about 20 hours so far and I think I understand the basics of GG. I still struggle with when to mortal counter and blitz shield, but those are universal abilities so I'll figure it out sooner or later. I started with Ky due to some similarities to SF, and everything was good. I liked his zoning, quick normals, and consistent damage output. I'm just bored of his tools now and wanted a stronger mix-up game. I started messing around with Zato and Venom, but was drawn more towards Venom. Unfortunately, I feel like both are way too complex and I'll have to put in too much time with either to become even remotely competent. So, after messing around with the entire roster in training mode but coming out even more confused than before, I don't know what to do. May, Faust, Slayer, and Sol all seemed somewhat appealing. Axl was meh, Pot might have been cool if he had more than just one way to get in quickly besides charge HS. TL;DR Please recommend any "intermediate" characters that I should try out?

Could you post where the final game roster is? I don't think it has been announced anywhere yet, considering this tweet by Wizard came out yesterday. https://twitter.com/EvilMrWizard/status/554804667385798656

[Xrd] News & (Theoretical) Gameplay Discussion
balFrog replied to Shinjin's topic in Guilty Gear General
Some newbie questions, since I wasn't sure where to put this. I know that characters have different defense modifiers, but how much health does everyone start with? I can't find this data anywhere, and whether the starting health is the same for all characters or different. What buttons do you use to tech, and when do you tech? I keep getting stuck in invalid combos because I don't know when to mash. When I tech, how many frames do I have to wait afterwards before I resume control? Many of the challenges begin with 6A close to the ground with a jump cancel follow-up, but I almost never see an opportunity to use this during matches and usually instead meet opponents in the air with slash or HS. How do I jump cancel an attack for my second jump? Suppose I do j.S > (jump cancel) j.HS > Vapor Thrust with Ky, do I just hold upforward before I push HS or do I need to push upforward simultaneously with HS? How strict is the timing window for reversals? I find myself trying to mash HS Vapor Thrust on wakeup when pressured and most of the time 2.HS comes out instead. This game is really fun so far, looking forward to the NA release for a bigger playerbase. -
Oh wow, that's awesome. Did not know this was possible.

Hmm. Well, perhaps waiting isn't so bad then. I'll keep thinking about it, though waiting a few weeks won't kill me. Really wish my stick was working so I wouldn't have to make this decision. Thanks.

So, after fucking up my stick, I'm considering dropping my Xrd pre-order until I either get it fixed or replaced. However, a friend informed me of the (week one?) character DLC that will be free for early buyers. I'm not familiar with how ASW handles DLC, especially given their history of releasing multiple titles in a game series (see: GGX2 followed by five updates). So, I'm just wondering, if I do get the game and the DLC, will future iterations of the game keep these characters locked like MVC3? Or do DLC characters become part of the regular roster and new DLC characters are introduced? Also, I read a comment on some Xrd news post that voice language will be DLC. I can't find anywhere else that confirms this to be true or false. Hopefully it's not true?

Yeah, this is precisely it. I mean, I understand how SF4 characters work that are mix-up heavy (Seth, Oni, etc), but I prefer characters that allow me to dictate (hah) the pace of the match with their spacing tools. I guess I will start with Faust and probably dip my toes with every character. Baiken looks cool, hope she makes it to the next version of Xrd. I'm still open to comments and opinions btw.

Hi, '12er here. USFIV on Steam has been a miserable experience so far, so I'm looking to switch over to GG Xrd. Tried the demo and it seems pretty fun. Thing is, I enjoy playing lame, and after watching this year's Evo GG side tourney I don't see anything in GG that resembles lame. I mained Dictator/Guile/Boxer in USFIV, and as far as I could tell no one in GG resembles their playstyles. Faust and Slayer both look interesting, May seems like she would be fun as well. But none of these characters, if any at all in the roster, seem suited for turtling. To clarify, I'm not asking who to main, I'm just looking for characters that can play defensively. Also, what can I do to prepare for Xrd? Play X2 #Reload? Watch Airdash Academy? EDIT: Well, this helped a lot.
