  1. Thanks a lot for your help. You guys are doing a great job keeping this forum useful and free of clutter. But like I said, it's just too much, lol. Anyways, I just have one more quick question. I know that GG focuses heavily on combos, but combos have kind of been my pitfall in fighting games. I spend too much time trying to start them and end up getting punished. I'm not saying that I want to play without using combos, but I'm looking for a character that focuses less on combos and more on strategy. So far I think that Potemkin has this property, but I just want to be sure. BTW, I'm typing this on mobile device so I apologize for any errors.
  2. Sorry about the confusion. Like I said, there is also circular but it only works with Sanwa-JLW (which is less common if I recall correctly). I guess I was asking because I wanted to know if it was just me who had difficulty with the square gate. I've been on SRK and yes, there is a lot of discussion on this topic. I'm not looking to completely build a stick, but just replace the plate on my VSHG. There is a little bit of discussion on the plate creation, but it's somewhat limited. I guess I'll dig deeper. Thanks for your help.
  3. Thanks for the clarification. I was about to edit my post and ask one more thing but you replied so quickly. This is kind of a broader question, but how do people make the glass/plastic cover for their custom sticks? I know that you can buy sheets and stuff... but how do you cut the holes for the buttons and such? Do you do it at home? Is it easy to do at home? A professional? Any help is appreciated. Not trying to be rude, but by the way, I wasn't asking which was better between Sanwa and Seimitsu. Did you read my entire post? EDIT: I just realized that you might have been responding to somebody else.
  4. I have a quick question about joysticks in Japan. I know the deal about what kind of sticks and buttons are out there. But one thing I want to know is which restrictor gate do they use most often in arcades? I just bout a VHSG (Virtua Stick High Grade), which uses a Sanwa JLF and Sanwa OBSF-30 (?) buttons. Although I don't like the square gate since it's difficult for me to do circular motions on it. I bought an octagonal gate to replace it since circular one's only work with JLW's. So I guess what I'm asking is: What is the most frequent gate that's used in Japan either on Sanwa or Seimitsu?
  5. Hey guys... I'm a total n00b here and to GG in general. I have about a decade of experience with Tekken and about five years of experience with CapCom fighters (CvS2, 3S, ST). However, I got pretty tired of all those games (I'm not saying they suck) and decided to pick up GG. It wasn't for the anime/music/gothic theme or anything like that; more along the lines of it being something new and totally different. Like I said, I've got no experience--but I do have GGXXAC and a joystick, lol. So I guess I'm ready to start learning... but there's so much to learn! I know that virtually everything about the game is explained on this board, so I'm not asking for any specific information. But I am asking for some help getting started. For example, I can sit here and read pages of information, but I don't know how to start applying it. I know there is probably competition in my area, but I don't know if I'm ready to start traveling to play just yet. I guess I'm asking if the CPU is a worthy adversary for learning all of the ins and outs? What are other tips for practicing things other than combos? Again, there's soooooooooo much information here that it's both a DREAM and a NIGHTMARE at the same time, lol. Any thoughts or comments would be appreciated. Thanks!
