  1. no i completely agree and it hurts. he's gonna play like a lobotomized rhino when i finally get back... ughhh
  2. hmmm... and everyone seems to be doing double damage. Maybe they are playing in a "half HP" mode (which applies to Nirvana's HP too)? it looks kinda fun... forces people to be less defensive.
  3. what i do when it comes to lag and the clap loop, is the noob clap loop. (let go of D RIGHT before B+C, that way the clap finishes before the grab connects, which just bounces the opponent up like a regular air grab, but still protects on early grab breaks. rinse and repeat, i don't bother with the [air dash~re-grab, relaunch crap] anymore) and if you memorize the timing, you can just make adjustments with lag during a really bad match. It's hard to explain, but the combo takes a consistent amount of time in between each air throw, so if you just do the combo like you would offline in training mode, and not pay attention to what the screen's showing, the combo still works 100%. I got this from playing Hilde in SC, her game plan revolves around one combo too, which takes similarly strict timing. NOTE: since it's lagging, they won't time their throw break correctly, and you just have to be ready with a gear super for the relaunch (or cross your fingers and do the 66, 2C the old fashioned way) haha i doubt this is even useful to anyone but me, as it is one of those things you find out for yourself, but whatever. I HOPE IT HELPED!
  4. what thrilling results! and about the balance issues, let me remind you all that as developers (as in business men in women trying to make a profit) they also need to balance their characters--not just against each other--but towards making their game accessible to a wider audience vs. the hard core crowd (us). Which is why there's Jin and Noel, and then Carl. At a more casual level to intermediate level, this game could definitely be argued as being NOT balanced at all! While the peoples playing this SBO gig would find the game's much more fair across the board. Me, playing carl (and being intermediate and losing to beginner arakunes and tactful but still sucky haku-mens, while tearing apart tagers who are better players than me) I agree with the people who are screaming for a patch. It's really annoying losing to someone who spams Ara's dives which have no punishable start up (me being on the ground and him in the air), not punishable on block or whiff (as he disappears into the ground) and have ridiculous cross up potential, which is impossible to account for with your basic 10 frame online lag. (don't tell me 6a beats it, it does not online with said lag.) So, in short, WE'RE ALL RIGHT! IT NEEDS A PATCH, BUT IT DOESNT NEED A PATCH!
  5. yes i know! i asked that earlier and NO ONE ANSWERED ME! Do I have to play arcade w/o losing once and fight infinite ragna to find out? B/c I don't really want to waste my time stressing over computer controlled opponents when it's the human one's who have had my attention all this time. for reals.
  6. i play on the regular 360 pad and, trust me, i know how you feel. It sounds nooby, but for me I just mash the 3 attack buttons (A, B, C) in that order with the correct directions while constantly buffering the D, letting go while holding forward (for the 6D) during carl's 5B animation...:8/: I don't know how it works, but I have the timing down so i just roll with it. I found out that the most important thing about doing combos with carl, aside from being able to start them without dying, is to be flexible. Always be prepared for the worst, but realize that you are in control of the game when you have your opponent in a loop so don't panic (when i first started i fumbled most of them simply because i got so excited...)! But, then again, I have a 40% win rate with this guy, so take everything i say with a grain of salt.
  7. hmm... interesting.
  8. haha yea i feel really bad for you guys! i'm only a mediocre carl and i eat tagers for breakfast! but dont be too mad b/c it's the only matchup carl has where it's in his favor... if you really are struggling, i find that the ones i lose too just play like assholes and do a 2D for the magnetize, then spam 360's and 720's on wake up after i get a combo out. just watch out that carl doesn't eek out a CH on 2D's startup (it's quite easy to...), SO MAKE SURE IT'S GONNA BE BLOCKED OR HIT also, always go INTO nirvana, and use the A sledge. jumping = unblockable 8D or 623D, but, J.C is great for an air to air against carl himself. surprisingly... and, play dirty. it's your only hope. oh, and btw, don't waste time killing the doll. i end up doing more damage to a tager that spams 5A on nirvana than he does to either of us so please. just don't.
  9. damn this is so freaking helpful. spam 623D, 6A on the dives, forget 5B as a poke (that explains a lot of deaths for me too!), and spend some time training with him. i can do this.
  10. I don't know the frame data for sure, but i have no trouble punishing it. b/c it hits in such small bits of damage, the guard stun is minimal, so if you are an IAD away i usally have enough time to slam her with a CH J.C, 5B, 6B, 623C, 5B, j.B, j.B, j.C. but only on the ground one though...
  11. I've been having MASSIVE trouble with this guy! All he does is play keep away, launch a cloud, and spam falling overheads like j.B while shooting out those low hitting feet eating bugs (wtf IS that?! a low hitting projectile that can be launched in the AIR?!). Every match goes a little like this: He shoots off a cloud. If it's a homing one, he goes on the offensive (probably using j.B), if its a following one, he teleports everywhere and sends it into my face, following up with ground combos. If it's an overhead, he does the above and stays in the air on the other side of the screen while spamming the ankle muncher cursing bugs that HIT LOW (do I have that wrong?! please tell me that I'm mistaken and just can't block for crap!!) and having the ever useful j.B ready for when i get in close. The first two clouds arn't too bad b/c i just make ada eat them... but I can't punish defending against a projectile so he just keeps summoning them until he gets a ceiling one. And then he just teleports away whenever he's anywhere near nirvana... so I find myself just rushing in at about IAD height to avoid the bugs, hoping to get a long enough combo to summon ada and rape him with pressure. it works about 15% of the time, which is an F--. So now i know not to air dash at all, so what... do I just 9 jump all the way until i get to his face? There are only so many tagers online to raise my self esteem before i meet someone proficient with arakune and tear it immediately back down again... I'd rather face nu! at least she's open for counter hits on a whiff!
  12. 9,6 it's so much easier! THANK YOU! and carl on a game pad is beyond a nightmare. For Soul caliber it's not so much of a big deal (pad vs. stick), as the majority of inputs are double directions (66, 22, 33...) and easy quarter turns... but for this game... wow.
  13. i picked carl b/c he's got this campy appeal to him. plus, nobody else plays as him so i feel special and unique.
  14. okay I've been wondering, In Carl's BMG section (have I got the name right? it's the list of all his battle quotes), only about 50 of the 108 seem to be used in regular fights. I've played well over 500 games with him and never heard him scream: "KNIGHT!" "BISHOP!" "PAWN!" "ROOK!" (and many more chess related quotes, among some new one's for his supers) I know this game uses different voice clips depending on who you're fighting, so is there some special battle Carl needs to be in to hear these? Plus, I've looked at the sprites for his attacks and they seem to correspond with the above quotes. (5C is the knight, 2C is the horse automaton rearing up but could be the rook, 6A the robot shoves Carl's hat up and it looks to be wearing a bishop-y hat itself...) So anyway, this may be completely useless information, but I'm really super curious! And a gameplay question, I've been having trouble doing an IAD totally consistently. Do I really need an arcade stick to be totally proficient? Or is there an easier way of doing it than 8, 66 really fast? My thumb can't take it anymore!
