  1. I feel like part of why shes so good is because the other top tiers got toned down in addition to her buffs. She doesn't seem out of place in terms of balance though, neither does Faust. They both are kind of just 'well here's this character, but better'. More so dizzy than Faust, but the way they are used and how you beat them is the same. Zappa on the other hand looks a bit nutso... I also think Testament is going to climb tooth and nail back up the tier list haha. Players are starting to get all the new stuff down and it's looking pretty scary.
  2. i wouldnt recommend bridget or jusitce from that perspective. bridget got a lot of buffs but is still very hard to win with. justice youll run into really hard matchups. i think everyone else seems viable. venom is a bit tough as well but hes still got a lot more bite than bridget.
  3. the consensus on japan bbs seems to be zappa dizzy faust in the top tier, chipp right below. pretty much everyone else no one really seems to agree on, other than i guess bridget and venom are low, and of course justice has polarizing matchups
  4. frcs have nothing to do with dedication. its just timing a button press. either you hit or you miss. you can practice it, but its a practice benefit with a low ceiling; you practice it until you understand where the timing is and then you just do it
  5. totally diff, the motion affects how fast you can do the move in any situation where you arent just going to buffer it. theres no risk to attempting an frc, other than the move being unsafe if you miss it. but that risk is a 1p risk, not a 2p risk. attempting an frc is a single player game that does not involve the other person. the concept of an frc is that you are paying a resource for a benefit. Those 2 things should be balanced with each other. if you want to go with the logic that the timing is part of the risk, then why not make frc's cost nothing at all and be 1f? it would surely make the more skilled players win even more.
  6. why? who cares if theyre easy? let newbies mash em out, whats the big deal
  7. theres a pretty simple and obvious solution. ok for example gunflame frc happens on frame 21. you then make the window for the frc from frame 1 through frame 21. if the command is input any time from frames 1 through 21, then the frc occurs on frame 21. if the command is input on frame 22, the frc does not occur. is there some sort of problem with this solution?
  8. well they literally said they were adding it For player matches, multiple players can now enter the lobby. Rules can be set to “winner stays”, “loser stays”, or “random”. Within the lobby, voice chat is enabled. When not participating in a match, it is possible to spectate. When a new player joins the lobby, sound effect, voice, and controller vibration notices have been added. http://contentssync-arcsystemworks.ambel.info/index.cgi?eid=832
  9. i think the hope comes from the fact that they are at the very least changing the online component in some form, since they are adding lobbies/spectating. given the delay (due to development issues they say?), i wouldnt think that some sort of improvement is out of the question.
  10. Well I only have a rudimentary understanding of those games for the most part, but for at least sc I'd have to disagree? Seems like there's so many important things to learn AND the fact that you always HAVE to be doing something or you're losing. Counter-strike and dota I can see. A lot of the complexity (i.e. amount of crap to learn) of mobas seem to come from the items, which a lot of do similar things in different ways, and it's only critical to know about specific ones (this is not that far off from some fighting games). CS I can agree with, the game doesn't have much fat to cut through, it's mostly about learning the maps, positioning, where to look and when, when to advance and when to stay put, and from there it's just playing a lot and getting better at aim. The thing about fighting games, particularly gg, is yeah there's all these setups to learn and very specific things, but you can also simplify things down to a few base options and be very successful. For example, you can learn 5 different 50/50 mixups from a wakeup situation, which will always help to know, or you can use the one you like the best and just run that every time. Yes, it's better to vary what you do to make it harder to defend against, but theoretically you can do just as well with that one 50/50. I think the difficulty in fighting games is just getting used to hitting the right buttons at the right time, for lack of a better description. Anti-airing on reaction properly, timing mixups properly, etc. and just execution in general.
  11. part of the reason they are one big group and get along is that they arent as passionate about their specific games. real rap. its more of a social thing. a lot of mvc3/sf4 players dont even really like the game they play.
  12. not only would you not be able to break them terribly, you wouldnt be able to break them at all!
  13. WHERE IS IT!?!?!?!?!? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ga1jlzaxIQ
  14. Columbus Bar Battles: Gaiden - Columbus, OH - January 22nd, 2011 @ MOMO² Hello again! MrBlasty and myself are here again, on the road to Bar Battles 4 this Summer. Nope, this isn't it... Bar Battles: Gaiden will be a...fudge it. It's gonna be off the chain once again! The event will be streamed as usual, with commentary by Ailerus and other alcohol-fueled persons from Ohio and the surrounding areas. The stream will be brought to you in part by ScrubQuotes@Twitter. Shoutouts to polarity. Dec. 20th update - Shit just got real. Things have changed, and we are accommodating in the proper fashion. No surprises there, huh? Here's the lowdown: We are moving the tournament venue to MOMO². I am getting a feeling of déjà vu...I'm sure all of you are familiar with MOMOs by now. Venue info is below, as always. As you probably assumed, the venue cap has been lifted. Space is of no concern. Tell your friends! Tell your family! Tell your kids, tell your wife! Get on the site and register because you don't want to miss this one. Click here to pre-register! The lineup is changing in the interest of time and...interest. BlazBlue, KOF2002UM, RPS, and the 6v6 gauntlet have all been dropped from the official billing. These games (and others) can still happen as side tournaments so please don't suicide, but we are not guaranteeing that they will. In their place we are holding Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike singles and Super Street Fighter IV 3v3 teams (run by Noel 'The Professional' Brown). Justin Wong will be in attendance once again! Here's another chance to have your shot at Justin at the biggest little tournament around. Fugee will be offering a $50 bounty to anyone who can send him to the loser's bracket in 3S, and $100 to whoever can eliminate him! Dec. 22nd update - We have another special guest to announce -- PR Rog is now confirmed! Dec. 24th update - Yet another special guest, Flash Metroid will be in attendance! Pre-Registration - Click here to pre-register! Just like Bar Battles 3, pre-registration is mandatory, but free. 15. Attention!! Attention!! Attention!! In light of the possible over-attendance at this event, we've decided to do require [free] pre-registration. You must pre-register to participate in the tournament! If someone from your crew is coming to CBB3, let them know, especially if they don't check this thread often. The registration form is here: Columbus Bar Battles 3 Registration
  16. Sorry, most people around here play on 360 and have 360 sticks, the only exception being Tekken of course. What kind of stick/controller do you use? Most people don't mind if you use their stick or pad. We also have converters for just about everything, so we can accommodate you if you want to use PS2 pad on 360, not sure about PS3 pad on 360. Sounds good, we welcome spectators and people that just want to hang out and play casuals. I have to warn you though, you will still have to pay the $10 venue fee. Reasons being 1. the venue is relatively small, and we are expecting a large turnout so we want to make sure we just get the people that really want to be there, and 2. we want to get everything we can for the pot bonuses. There is a small chance of a Guilty Gear side tournament, but regardless there are some people here who play who'd be happy to play casuals in that game.
  17. Columbus Bar Battles 3 will be held in Columbus, OH on August 21st, 2010 Prepare yourself -- #1 Street Fighter IV player in the USA, Justin Wong will be attending the tournament! Train hard and be ready! WE'VE GOT A VENUE CHANGE!!! CBB3 is now being held at MOMO²! Read below for details. If you are attending this tournament, please read this post: 8/14 update We are now requiring [free] pre-registration. You must pre-register to participate in the tournament! If someone from your crew is coming to CBB3, let them know, especially if they don't check this thread often. The pre-registration form is here: Columbus Bar Battles 3 Registration Special message from MrBlasty (and myself) regarding the pot bonuses: The move to MOMOs has greatly affected pot bonuses. We will not know what we can give each game until the end of the night, so there is no confusion. If you are top 3 in a game you will receive bonuses unless that games has under 10 people. Games receiving them so far are I tell you we hope at least 50 a game and hopefully more depending on the turnout for said game. Any one upset by this please keep in mind a few pages back i posted it a lot as a downside to making the move and not a single person spoke up, so there was time and I don't wanna hear shit later. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Click here for the flyer! Our 3rd event is brought to you by Columbus Fighting Games, the MidWest Arc, and the Columbus fighting game community. More games, more hype! All brackets will be run by either myself, Ailerus, Brent (MrBlasty), Tim Static, Ghaleon, or other trusted members of the community. A live stream and commentary will again be provided by the legendary Brent Harris aka MrBlasty, along with guest commentary from various other players such as myself and anyone who belongs in the chair and on the air. Venue information MOMO² 2885 Olentangy River Road Columbus, OH 43202 (614) 784-0888 Directions The tournament will be held at the much-revered MOMO², primarily known as the home of Season's Beatings for 5 years running. If you've never been to MOMO², it is a large, comfortable venue with a laid-back atmosphere. In addition to great food, they also serve bubble tea and alcohol to those of age. If that's not your thing, there are plenty of fast food and not-so-fast food joints within walking distance, including the popular Raising Cane's. But please, respect the venue -- no outside food or drinks permitted! There is plenty of parking in front of the venue and throughout the shopping center, especially since there will be no other major events that day. Vuvuzelas are permitted at this event. However, our tournament staff, nor the Zeno's staff, nor any attendees present are responsible for what may happen to you or your vuvuzela should you attempt to use it. Schedule, entry fees, and payouts Doors open at 12:00pm noon, though the bar opens at 11:00am. If you arrive before noon, you can chill at the bar or help us set up. Venue fee is $10. Everything we receive after covering our costs will be split evenly across all non-SSF4 games as a pot bonuses! Just to be clear, I've marked (*) all games that will receive pot bonuses. If you bring a TV or a console + appropriate game, you will receive $5 off the venue fee. If you bring a full setup (TV + console + cables + game), your venue fee will be waived. We don't need an unlimited number of setups so please PM myself or MrBlasty if you plan on supplying something. The final cut-off will be determined at the venue, first come first served, so PMing us early and then showing up at 3:00pm with a SSFIV setup ain't gonna cut it. Super Street Fighter IV will start at 1:00pm sharp. Other times are rough estimates. * Denotes a pot bonus. 1:00pm Super Street Fighter IV (Xbox 360) - $10 2:00pm~3:00pm *BlazBlue Continuum Shift (Xbox 360) - $5 *Melty Blood Actress Again (PS2) - $5 4:00pm~5:00pm *Super Street Fighter II HD Remix (Xbox 360) - $10 *Tekken 6 (PS3) - $10 6:00pm~7:00pm *Marvel vs Capcom 2 (DC) - $5 + Low Tier - $TBA *Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 (TBA) - $5 *Virtua Fighter 5 (Xbox 360) - $5 ??? Games will be 2/3 matches, then 3/5 for all finals (winners, losers, grand). In double elimination tournaments, the player coming from losers into grand finals will have to take 2 sets of 3/5 to win. After each match, loser can switch character, winner cannot. In grand finals, if the player coming from losers resets the score, both players can change character in the 1st match of the 2nd set. All games played on 2/3 rounds unless specified. Pot split will be 70% / 20% / 10% for 1st / 2nd / 3rd, respectively in all games. In SSFIV or MBAA, if a player pauses the game during a tournament match, the other player can choose to get a free match, play the match over, or unpause keep playing. In BBCS, HDR, T6, UMK3, and VF5, the match will be replayed from the appropriate round, since in those games, meters either don't exist, reset, or are easy to reset (# of bursts in BBCS). In MvC2 just let it rock cause DC blue screens are a way of life. Game-specific rules Super Street Fighter IV: Winner can switch ultra. BlazBlue Continuum Shift: All characters allowed.
