I'm ok with Chizuru being 2nd but...below 2nd not so much, so yeah call me a scrub until more of them weigh in. Edit: Also did mojirice seriously recommend 2C/5C 66 counter super? If against Sasara maybe, cause all the other options Touka has against her out of 66 actually sort of make her guess. But all the other characters will destroy this just my hitting their fastest normal. http://www.hitbox.tv/video/137574 against 5C 66 counter super http://www.hitbox.tv/video/137575 agasint 5C 66 623A http://www.hitbox.tv/video/137578 against 5C 66 short hop jB http://www.hitbox.tv/video/137875 agaisnt 5C 66 6412369AB super (added today) As you can see, Sasara has answers to each situation, but they are all different answers, so she has to outguess Touka pretty hard. However Tamaki can hit 5A for all of them and 5B to CH you out of all of them at once except for air super. Touka herself gets 5A on every single option, same with Karulau 5A, same with Konomi 5A, same with Chizuru 5A, etc. I can see how this moves Sasara:Touka match closer to 2:8 but I don't see how this would factor in raising Touka above the other characters.

The scrub moniker is mainly because of where you put Touka, which I would never put below Multi Morgan or Arawn. :V

5C>66 is negative and only works on Sasara because you can cancel into short hop jump attack over her 5A/2A if she tries to mash so she can't deal with it. Almost every other character can mash something on a Touka that does 5C>66 even if shorthop cancelled, including herself. Also, the reasoning with assist cover doesn't explain why the best Toukas use Rina assist, the ability to keep a vortex going goes way down, instead you go for the burst damage and resets. Touka's good, but I don't see how you maintain a vortex when everyone else up there at the top has pretty good reversals, and I think that's why the best ones go for Rina. Also Gamera got robbed in that kumite, everyone else in previous sets got a FT5 with every member, instead he has 10 lives and the last half is daigohei Karulau, key Morgan, batta Konomi, nobi Tamaki, batta Touka, ?? Riannon, Oz Chizuru. Spoilers he loses 3 times on daigo and 7 freaking times on nobi and doesn't even make it to the end. Extremely depressing. At least he won vs key and batta, which I sort of expected, as those aren't terrible matchups. I see you on twitter hitting up Morikuma, and he's calling in OZ for help so that'll be very helpful. When Mori RTed my predictions to the other players they laughed, but only cause I thought itorin switched to Chizuru (I hate alias clowns). That and nobi was like "kaiser's good vs Tamaki? hahahaha," which is one of the two matches I got wrong. That American diagram you listed is OK, I'd have put Touka Morgan above Multi Arawn though. Touka is a good character, I just don't think she's A and if she is, she's below everyone else in there.

Slight clarification, LBS is the one who just picked up the game (and subsequently dumped the frame data). sumazndude (the Hakuowlo) has been playing the game since release, and he was initially very hype for the game, it has more or less died out though but he will randomly play again when forced/coerced/tricked into doing so. He's very aware of a lot of the nuances. Also there is a Gamera (no1 Sasara) vs QZ kumite uploaded now, it was a very interesting format where he had 10 lives to go through the entire cast, as played by QZ mafia. The first half is all alts and comedy and then he hits daigohei Karulau and the suffering begins. Who is your source by the way? When we went to Japan for Comiket/Arcana we mainly associated with Owen aka multipro but his main game is Arcana so even though him and morikuma hit top 8 in Examu Cup I accept that viewpoint being probably skewed.

Aquapazza rematch button is the most dangerous button in the game, you just keep hitting it like a hamster in a cage for pellets. This weekend at Chris-mas (Nadakaineko's birthday gathering) I think I played something like 50 matches each with LBS (learning Tamaki, has secretly ripped the frame data so he knows Llyr's exact hitbox which pissed me off greatly) and sumazndude (Hakuowlo) I like a "I don't play this game" ken/sumazndude over ragna hades any day! (not so subtle callout that will never be completed since ken will never leave the East Coast); but especially after watching the most recent NorCal install lark linked me (tl;dr I really like pain's play how did he lose to ragnahades, ernest stop doing wake up Chizuru 214B against non-Riannons how does no one there know how to punish you for this, ragna hades please stop mashing at terrible points and please realize when Chizuru 66C has been done early and is at negative instead of backdashing after it every single time and eating a 5A that you could have mashed against) Thanks Lark all you did was make me want to buy a ticket to evo. To play Aquapazza against Norcal. AKA the worst use of 600$+. In other news KVO happened this weekend, though really on Japan's Monday, as it is the start of Golden Week. And I got tricked, because key Morgan entered the brackets last second (he was thrown into bracket 1), where he proceeded to beat kouya, take the bracket, and take the tournament. OZ mafia wins again. That being said I got a lot of the other picks right so here they are: Bracket 1: key Morgan (I was totally wrong for this bracket because key hadn't entered yet during predictions) Bracket 2: gobou Karulau (1st pick) Bracket 3: hino Morgan (1st pick) Bracket 4: itorin Morgan (1st pick) Bracket 5: akatsuki Touka (2nd pick) Bracket 6: mizuchama Hakuowlo (1st pick, man gamera even got to finals and STILL lost the Sasara:Hakuowlo matchup. That's just depressing since it's so bad for Haku) Bracket 7: nao Chizuru (3rd pick) Bracket 8: nobi Tamaki (1st pick, I didn't think Sanada Arawn would beat GO1 Chizuru though) Match videos are archived on Twitch here (warning, may include Marvel): http://www.twitch.tv/godsgarden/b/525961868 http://www.twitch.tv/godsgarden/b/526038884 http://www.twitch.tv/godsgarden/b/526052561

http://www.mediafire.com/view/qoizgmrad32dv0b/Aquapazza_Arcadia_Tier_List.png I translated most of it informally up there, but I'm definitely not word for word or remotely keeping with the tone of the article.

How does having 2B deal with Chizuru or Tamaki anything when I cannot use 5B 2C 5C 623 214 w/o meter? Does that normal somehow magically let me deal with trying to anti-air these two (three if you count Karulau) without risking everything on 623 hoping they don't know how to safe jump? What lets me deal with Satsuki shot -> 66C? What lets me deal with Tamaki anything? You used to main Sasara but I'm pretty sure you switched off her cause she sucked (as did all of Norcal), you said as much on stream. Comparing a "glaring weakness" of Chizuru vs a "glaring weakness" of Sasara is like night and day in terms of impact. Also on paper? Do you actually have another legitimate Chizuru over there to play against? It's not like you can clone yourself to go 4:6 with your Sasara against your Chizuru. I assume you go 4:6 to even with Pain's Tamaki with Sasara?
-
As ehuangsan said this is more personal preference, I am more conservative with my meter regarding super enders in general. I really dislike going for Chizuru Combination enders unless it will kill. I use Llyr so if I have free meters I will generally spend it on double 214B so I still maintain oki afterwards. I like having meter to guard cancel (6BC) out or whiff punish with 236236AB on reaction. An example of a matchup specific style change is also vs Riannon, I will save meter so I can 222AB Yuki snowflakes.

So I read the article in full and it says they asked daigo hei and the rest of QZ for input, but honestly the explanations on contentious points are absolute garbage so I wonder if they just half-assed it and made shit up. Explanation for Tamaki in S is I guess sound, they rehash her specials, her oki, her red tension stats, they say she has no weakpoints, something I would previously and still say applies more to Chizuru. I don't mind Tamaki being in S. Explanation for Touka in 2nd is extremely weak. Ok her C ground normals are strong and her dash cancel is what makes her good. Low risk high reward on a lot of things, throw in assist cover and you can go for mixups all day safely. I understand this. Her only weak point is rekkas are hard? Really Arcadia? What about the lack of a good reversal? What about the fact she's negative off dash cancel unless she commits to shorthops? What about the fact that CHIZURU KONOMI AND KARULAU EXIST IN THE GAME? Speaking of those three characters, "their strengths outweigh their weaknesses so they are in A." That's it. No explanation for why Chizuru is not in S anymore, no explanation about why any of those characters are actually worse than Touka. Explanation for the top of B rank for Sasara is hilarious. "High specs and besides Touka, she doesnt have any huge weaknesses." The article then goes on to say that Sasara:Touka is 2:8. At this point I spit out whatever I was drinking and started laughing really hard. I mean holy shit no huge weaknesses except Touka? My only question at this point was, "If you think Sasara:Touka is 2:8, what the fuck is Sasara:Tamaki or Sasara:Chizuru or Sasara:Karulau?" Who did they ask, the only Sasara player who still plays in existence? I mean what the hell lopsided opinion is this? Touka is a bad matchup, but it's not 2:8. But if it is, then what the hell does that say about Chizuru and Tamaki who can delete half the buttons I use just by walking forward? Needless to say I strongly disagreed with this assessment. Explanation for bottom of B rank is Arawn is equally silly. Says he has strong specials, but his low emotion stats are weak. Once he hits low emotion he dies. This is from a character that has a super that specifically raises his tension one level. Nothing else is brought up besides his low emotion penalties. No explanation is given as to why Oboro (super jokes there is only one Oboro player left in existence as well) and Morgan (I agree she should be here) are in B rank. C rank just talks about RIannon. No information on why Hakuowlo (who I believe should be in there, contrary to some opinions) or Multi (who should definitely not be in there) are in C as well. D rank was basically made to shit on Manaka. Bad movement, from beginning to end the match is at the opponent's pace, terrible neutral. So there you have it, if you were expecting some actual new valid points to discuss I'm sorry there aren't any, just some things everyone already knows and some things that are downright wrong.

Chizuru combos are really easy, if you think it will combo it likely will. I didn't really write any down because they take all of 5 minutes to figure out in training mode (this is not a training mode game) besides the situational Maryan ones, I guess I'll add some later. For now, meterless midscreen is just 2A>(5A)>5B/2B>214B/5C/2C and BC>66C>214B. Corner is 2A>5B>5C>214B and BC>BC>214B. Throw is 6C>66C>214B and 4C>214C Edit: Added some basics to wiki, I'll add more assist ones later.

The thing is Aquapazza in its current version (changes between 2.0 and 2.01 are basically only bug fixes and Boss Maryan) has been out for two years since April 2012. Tech may have changed, but winning tech has changed very little. The same people winning two years ago in 2.0 are still winning in 2.01. OZ's mafia is still extremely dominant, and they are still using the same assists from two years ago with the exception of Serika counter-Tamaki tech now that assists can be changed mid-tournament. And it's not just OZ's mafia too, anyone who qualified for SBO in 2012 falls under this, they are all still using the same characters and assists from back then. For Examu Cup I was wrong in predictions a whopping two times out of all the first round matches, and it's not like I knew all the players. Any time I saw an old SBO player/team from two years ago vs a new player/team with very high VP that I did not know I literally picked the SBO team to win it, and I was overwhelmingly right. This is why in my more detailed analysis of the Examu Cup brackets I flat out dismissed 80% of the Toukas that entered, because only two of them had been in SBO. To me the winning tech in this game has been relatively static, and with that, the tiers have been relatively static to me for a long time too. This explains my deep-seated bias when I read something like "Octavia is actually a good assist" or "Ko-hatsu has been using all this new Rathy tech." Does it beat SBO players using the same old tech from 2 years ago? Time and time again I have been shown "no."

They are mass "qualifying" (entering) tournaments and then losing first round is what they are doing. Only two Touka teams made it to Round 2 in Examu Cup and one was a Touka mirror, the other had the best Konomi in the game on his team carry him. I personally think the list is full of shit but that's just me. Chizuru is still S, Touka is not A, Sasara and Oboro are not B (there is literally a single player of each of those characters in existence what the fuck Arcadia who the hell did you ask?), Multi is not C. Edit: Please fill in Tamaki matchups ehuang Tamaki doesn't exist here even as a hood ornament.
-
It definitely depends on the character you're playing...I've gone sort of OCD on only one character's page, but I haven't filled in the other character I play at all. There's a flat out lack of interest for the Northeast Coast, (I'm not joking when I say I think only three players are qualified to talk about their characters in depth), and Norcal plays semi-regularly but probably won't bother filling in information. The various JP wikis are rather lacking as well, a lot of my knowledge is just from testing against myself and watching certain players.

KVO2K14 is on May 5th and features UMVC3 and Aquapazza. Brackets HERE. Quick look at them shows no OZ and less OZ mafia members/former SBO entrants/Tamaki army than usual so unless there are tons of clowns under alias my predictions will probably be inaccurate. Rundown: Block 1: kouya Chizuru will win this, unless kubo Morgan gets lucky Block 2: Probably gobou Karulau Block 3: hino Morgan, I haven't seen deguchi Hakuowlo play in a very long time Block 4: Lot of good lesser known players: dagiri Karulau, seto Chizuru, tomy Multi, tenka Touka, Itorin Chizuru or Morgan. I guess Itorin, regardless of character choice Block 5: Anyone besides kyamei Chizuru lol, I guess marusu Morgan (maybe Akatsuki Touka) Block 6: Mizuchama Hakuowlo (1st pick) or Natsume Tamaki (2nd pick). Gamera (Sasara love pick) has a chance if he can get out of his side of the brackets and Mizuchama beats Natsume, because he can abuse the matchup (really stretching here) Block 7: takakun Konomi, KOG Tamaki, nao Chizuru, in that order of likelihood Block 8: nobi Tamaki, GO1 Chizuru...gonna go with nobi as the sole representation of the OZ mafia in this tournament, even if it's against GO1.

Zombie post but can the rumors about him being on Twitter under a different account and playing Tera stop? Japan has not received any contact from Sugeno for at least a year. I don't know when that rumor started but the purported account has no relation to Sugeno, the guy posted some screenshots of VP when he was testing hitboxes but he refers to Sugeno by name in third person. In short, completely, fucking, unrelated. I don't get how people are using this rumor (oh we heard he's alive on twitter playing Tera!) to possibly justify shady shit like the Indiegogo and the Steam release.

It's hard to say, GO1 has a 90+% win rate against every character in the game except for Shana (at 87%), KYH is next lowest at 90% for him. That being said, I think he's not above being biased against that character, it could be bobu is the main source of all his losses to her. If we go by bobu's statistics (3rd overall, 1st KYH), he has substantial losses to Shana (65% WR) and Kirito (68% WR), and I can only assume the Kirito he's losing to is GO1.
-
Kubo's matchup list for Kirino is sort of funny https://twitter.com/kubo0055/status/452986749858217984 Basically it's translated to: Asuna; I can't use 236A so it's bad Shana: I can't use 236A so it's bad Mikoto: I can't use airdash so it's bad Tomoka: I can't use 236A so it's bad Shizuo: Good matchup Kuroyukihime: I've got mobility so it's good Kirito: I can't use 236A so it's bad There's a lot of useful information at http://sp.cliapm.info/index.php if people want to see what characters people use and lose to (GO1 uses Kirito, loses the most to Shana followed by Kuroyukihime.) If we go by grade breakdown for the top 50 there's: 6 Kirito (the first Kirito after GO1 is 20th place) 13 Tomoka 5 Kuroyukihime (the first Kuroyukihime after bobu (melty player, 3rd overall) is 19th) 8 Shana 5 Asuna 8 Kirino 4 Mikoto (the first Mikoto period is in 15th) 1 Shizuo (at 21st, KOG trying to make it work of course)
-
Not sure why editing the post broke the formatting, oh well. Kuroyukihime buffs from a forgetful loctest player: 1. Red mode 236 and j236 is now SUPER HUGE, 236 wall slam -> 236 wall slam -> super or ex 236 is a thing full screen now 2. jC hitbox improved (it used to whiff very often after double jump) 3. 2C blindspot smaller 4. Koko assist added to game (she didn't get a very good knockdown after her aerial chain before, Koko doing a small launch after j236 lets her 5AB after it into super or EX) 5. ex j214 is a hard knockdown 6. 214C/j214C? lets KYH actually follow Black Lotus through the opponent to the other side to cross up. 7. Gets super off of 2AB (I think, guy went for it but it whiffed) Honestly the red mode 236/j236 change is huge, you hit people before they even think they're near it so it's really hard to 5AB or projectile it on reaction.
-
You're saying a character with one hit zoning pokes and no projectiles is keeping you out in a game with 2-button forward-moving super armor moves readily available to every character. You are somehow implying she can do anything with her trump card in your face, since she just changes her mode and cannot combo into and out of it. You are somehow implying assists and bursts greatly benefit only her compared to everyone else in the cast. It's like I'm reading baby's first zoning matchup. Let me break down why (I think) Kuroyukihime sucks: 1. In a game where AB is a forward moving super-armor multi-hit absorbing move for almost the entire cast, Kuroyukihime's AB's active super armor frames are hideously few in number. It is exceedingly easy to destroy her AB as its super armor duration ends so fast that normal jump-ins can beat it. The flipside is EVERYONE ELSES AB CAN ABSORB AND HIT HER 236 and 214 on reaction because hey, those stabs count as limbs. 2. NO PROJECTILE. 3. Her trump card mode change does not DO ANYTHING USEFUL. If it was like a combo stance change maybe, but you literally can only do it on knockdown as you can't do anything immediately after activation, and it changes her moves slightly but not enough to matter. 4. You can chicken block in this game. There's more but the gist of it is that she's specifically designed differently as a zoning character in a game with forward moving Persona DPs that punish her at 3/4ths screen free. Put another way, think of Sim w/o a teleport, without a projectile or a projectile super, whose only reversal is an extremely short catch grab counter, in a game where focus can absorb multiple hits and does not take any meter and moves forward and attacks automatically. Edit: So SOWL's comment on the first page intrigued me (he mentioned mode red and other buffs but nothing specific) so I went and looked at the character rank thread (which is all over the place) and recent KYH matches. First, I'll take back what I said about her modes all being useless, you can combo out of mode red at least, which already makes it worthwhile. That being said, a lot of people are asking how KYH is strong, as they don't have a strong one in their area. The two answers I generally see are aerial 236 sword poke and 2AB catch counter. From what I can see they increased the duration on 2AB's active window, so at least that's something. But aerial 236 looks the same as it always was. Also mentioned as well is the top 50 player rank distribution, which is 5 Kirino, 11 Basketballs, 11 Shanas, 8 Asunas, 6 Kiritos, and 4 KYH. (I assume there's 5 Railguns + Shizuos to make it 50.) The match I am using for analysis is here: http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm23142524 For the record, I played KYH in the loctests before I switched to Shana. Second edit: This character has been really improved I think I'm going to have to mea culpa somewhat. She isn't bullshit but she's got a lot of what she was missing in loctest, which I'll elaborate on later. That being said, I still want to see people mash 5AB on her 236 more (at least when it's not red)

Online Sasara is a pretty amusing scourge that is a product of netplay that takes advantage of the fact that people will not be able to punish all her terrible move recovery on reaction. That being said, there are some easy things you can do against laggy or autopilot Sasaras. 1. Shield bash abuse is by far the most dominant feature of online Sasara, and they'll be using it as much as online Chizuru 66C. This move does not have LOW ARMOR, so you can try to 2A or 2C it. 236 Rocks also have enough hits to slow shield bash down and make it whiff. If you are forced to block the slower 214C version, you can do raw super on her before the fireworks save her. If you are blocking the 214B version, it is a very good idea if you have meter to guard cancel 6BC if you see her do Maryan, this puts you even on meter but you at an advantage position wise. If you have Rina or Yuki, you can guard cancel the shield bash into them to completely remove Maryan and punish her. 2. When dashing at Sasara, learn to use 214 feints to dodge shield bash completely, a whiffed shield bash is a dead shield bash. Shield bash also doesn't have instant startup, so meaty dashing at Sasara (to go into 66A or a feint) will blow up wakeup shield bash attempts. 3. Against her anti-air, learn to use 623 or even super to hang in the air to make rising smash whiff and punish the crap out of her. On oki you should be using jB to crossup so that rising smash isn't even an issue, even if it absorbs the hit you'll land on the other side. 4. Learn to buffer 214214AB against everything that isn't shield bash. This means that if you block 5B -> 5CC (the two long pokes), 5B->2C (sweep), 5B->BC (super garbage online only overhead) or 5B->nothing, just let 214214AB go and it will punish her recovery.

I still put Hakuowlo below average, because all his matchups feel slightly disadvantageous (top and high tiers in general) to slightly advantageous (only against other low tier characters) at best, with the exception of Sasara, who is downright terrible for Haku. That being said, since they're only slightly disadvantageous, it means the hard workers can definitely place very well with that character (Mizuchama da gawd) in a top tier-driven tournament environment. This would not be the case if Sasara was top tier (as she was in the last version). Unfortunately, Sasara's worst matchups are against the two best characters in the game, which sort of means she gets deleted from the tournament environment in general, so Hakuowlo can breathe easier.
-
In this thread, people responding seriously to Manabe :V Anyway according to JP (Owen aka MultiPro): Chizuru >= Tamaki > Konomi >= Karulau >> rest >> Hakuowlo > Sasara > Manaka >> Riannon >= Oboro. Arguing about the order of "rest" is another day, but I'm pretty sure people put Konomi above Karulau for top 3 consistently.
-
I heard Manabe taught daigohei a thing or two about the Chizuru matchup.
