Silhouette Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 Does anybody else have an easier time with this matchup if instead of trying to smack her down with your sword, you bait her to run into it and punish the hell out of her for it? If I play aggressively in this fight, it seems to turn into a crapshoot, but the Angler-strategy seems to work relatively well. And Kumlekar's right. 6A and 6B are great for breaking her bullshit.
Orion Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 there are some areas during her corner drive pressure that you can 623a~a, i've found that j.2c works decently since she seems to be able to punish IAD j.c, or just j.c attempts with her 6a i believe. patience is key like in so many of hakumens matches, 6c usually got me in trouble unless it was timed really well. there are a lot of false gaps in her drive pressure that, unless i IB'd, there was no way to do a D counter. 5c stuffed a lot of her close range normal attacks if timed right, but when she came at me in the air with j.c i think, she was beating my 6a out. or maybe i was timing it too early or late. just what i found from doin a first to 20 with a friend. 20-17 noel won

I'm mad at myself right now because I lost to a noel player who didn't use anything but drives just now. (Those crossups sucks!)

Kumlekar Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 Blaz, just practice blocking her strings and throwing a 6A or 6B at the right time. I haven't gotten around to it, but I've been meaning to learn all the possible flow charts on her drive moves. It would really help for knowing which moves to use, but usually you'll see your opponent relying on one combination, and you should be able to punish it if you learn it. I usually end up losing the first round against even the worst noel players, figuring out your opponents play style really helps in this one.
qwerty Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 noel in general is pretty fucking easy to beat in all honesty. her mixup game is poop since the only decent low she has is 3C (which can be guarded on reaction) so just stand there and block dat greed sever. and as reaVer kinda said, if she follows up the greed sever with flashkick, you have a guaranteed 5D right there. follow that shit up with 6C -> shippu for like 4800 damage. even against relatively good noels i find this to be a pretty easy matchup. you can counter a lot of noel's shit (2D her 3C's, lolz) and she doesn't take damage very well either, so as long as you play smart this matchup is yours. edit: forgot to add that it's also pretty damn easy to 5D her greed sever on reaction as well.

Edit: Wow I completely did not finish the post With the above point, what I want to say is since she has only one overhead to deal with, you can just block low most of the time. And I want to make sure I'm right about only one overhead.

Theoretically yes, but in practice its not a good idea. 5C is good for stuffing a rush-in drive, but thats about it. She has so much invincibility on those moves its just not a good idea to attack through them without using a move that gives you either upper or lower body invincibility. If the 5C or 6C hits during her invincibility frames, your going to eat the next attack, and the rest of the drive.

ryokoalways Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 What do you mean even against Hakumen? Damage is the same across the board in this game. Hakumen is one of the easier targets for noel to do the ground shoot combo but that's it. Her damage has always been good, but she doesn't really have much of a safe pressure game (she has mixups/crossups, but they are all gimmicks and generally unsafe). That's her trade-off.

Shes a pain to fight (I've lost to two drive spammers today =( ) but haku has all the necessary tools to fight her on even footing, its just a matter of using them right. Also, try comparing noel's damage to haku to hakus damage to noel. I think we've got a significant advantage there, even with her drive.
