wickedi Posted October 11, 2015 Posted October 11, 2015 So heres the deal, i was having a discussion with my cousin, take a Sol vs Sol matchup for exampleIf i knockdown the other player, then go okizeme with jH, if i time my jH correctly, and the other guy try to DP, he will get hit by my jH and DP will not come out. I believe in this because everytime i play vs DP characters, even Sol players, when i time my okizeme really nicely the other guys get hit and i believe when he gets hit he was trying to DP.However, my cousin said that DP has this 1 frame window, and if he times his DP correctly DP will ALWAYS come out, no matter if i try to okizeme with jH, gunflame, or anything. He also said it for backdashs, if he times his backdashs correctly, backdashs will always come out no matter how well time the okizeme was. So how this mechanic really works?(srry if errors on english)
Tong Posted October 11, 2015 Posted October 11, 2015 It's called a safejump. Basically a situation where if I jump at you, during your wakeup, and time my aerial attack correctly it will either: 1- hit you, 2- if you decide to DP I'll land in time and block it regardless. The "DP 1 frame window" he's talking about is called a Reversal, where your special move will come out right after the first frame you wakeup. This is important because unless you get a Reversal DP, you'll get beaten by pretty much everything else. Also, it's not that "their DP didnt come out because of j.HS", they just messed up the timing (didnt get a Reversal) and got hit by the j.HS. But even if they DP is a Reversal, you will land in time after j.HS and block it. Watch this video until the 25 second mark:Hope it helps!
wickedi Posted October 11, 2015 Author Posted October 11, 2015 Ok ok i know i can safe jump, but my doubt was what would win well timed DP or well timed oki, so DP actually has this 1 frame window that wins, but im guessing its not something really easy to do since 99% of the time i do jH against other players they mess up
Tong Posted October 11, 2015 Posted October 11, 2015 Well timed oki will always beat a well timed DP (if we're talking about HS Volcanic Viper). A DP won't win because it takes 4 frames to actually hit the opponent, it's not instant, and it takes less than 4 frames to land from the aerial attack and block. And yes, getting a Reversal isnt easy in +R, specially on netplay.
wickedi Posted October 11, 2015 Author Posted October 11, 2015 (edited) Wait then, so you are saying a well timde oki will always beat a well timed DP, even the oki being without safe jump? What about a jH Sol oki vs a Potenkim 6p, Sol well timed oki jH will always beat any well time Pot 6p on wakeup? Edited October 11, 2015 by wickedi
Mai-ah Posted October 11, 2015 Posted October 11, 2015 If a DP has invincibility from frame 1 then a reversal will beat any attack you try to do thats not a safe jump pretty much. Reversal timing is just hard to get.
wickedi Posted October 11, 2015 Author Posted October 11, 2015 so if the guy time the Volcanic Viper for example perfectly it will always come out then
Zouf Posted October 11, 2015 Posted October 11, 2015 Invulnable frames are... invulnerables. You can't hit them regardless of what you do.So if his DP is actually a reversal, your j.H will never hit him.
Dreiko Posted October 13, 2015 Posted October 13, 2015 Basically what will happen is this: Your jH becomes active > he does his dp > you get to land safely and block his dp > you get to punish his dp It's not that the jH would hit him out of the DP, it's that you'd be able to block fast enough so that YOU won't get hit by it.
