Discuss how to fight Carl. I finally had the chance to play a good one, I was pretty much clueless as to what to do :psyduck: I'm going in training later with him to figure out some of the things he was doing to me. If anyone already has some good Carl experience, post up.

I wouldn't consider my match-up experience good because the Carl's I fight are just decent and rely on clap loop way too much. I've yet to play against a really good Carl so I'm not sure if this stuff will work but anyways: -Get use to matches taking awhile. Carl will run, Carl will hide, Carl will just straight up try to annoy you so you will make a mistake. Don't do it. -I might be the only one that does this but I actually focus more on attacking Nirvana than Carl. With her out of commission Carl is a piece of cake to take out. Plus, you don't have to worry about clap loops and other crap. -Carl's pressure is very easy to deal with when it's just him to worry about, it honestly seems like crouch blocking is the only thing you need to do against him and quite a few of his moves are punishable with 5B on a standard block. No IB'ing really necessary. -Carl's mostly start their approach from the air so get ready to 6A and ID. -Your basic combos hit him hard because of his low health. No need to get fancy. -Now if you're dealing with a Carl that actually knows how to use Nirvana as well as keep her safe, the golden rule is to just flat out avoid situations where you'll be positioned between the two of them. If you have to turtle up and be evasive then do so, clap loop is a serious threat and it's amazing how easily it can be set up.

simple match, just poke and prod the brat, your pokes are much better than his at max range. i try to avoid using hell fang unless i hit carl, hitting the doll only gets you tagged by carl himself, in fact if your gonna hit the doll make sure your hitting carl as well to save the trouble. so key point, only use specials if your connecting on the brat, ragna just have too much recovery on wiff.

shit today online i had fights with good carls, this fight is laaaame, his nirvana needs to get set up some how, i figured out just throwing A's keep me from his bitch loops but then it gets worse..he was good without nirvana! problems galore.

how do you prevent getting caught between carl and nirvana..better yet, how do you preven him from starting his nirvana sex loops.

I don't have any carl friends so I don't know how to fight him. :( I just try to out pressure him. I base that strat on the fact that if anything touches him the doll stops... So. Just touch him a lot. Lots of meaties. Get used to him jumpin a bit and try to snatch the boy out the sky. I go with j.D more than j.c because it seems to hit Carl better. Jump Cancel it and send him to the ground with j.C. j.D 623D Ect.

I've got a hint for this match up. Don't use Gantlet Hades or the punch attack (sorry, don't know the name of it...) as an approach every time you start a match because most Carls will block or jump back in the air and block, then counter. Instead, you should try to fake them out (believe me, I know what I'm talking about. I played this guy's Ragna like 26 times and only won 6, which was when he stopped using that dashing punch thing...) with IAD into some attack or something. I hope this helps a bit...:vbang:

Bait him into doing something by walking/running like a badass if you must, but don't try to fight him like you're playing MINDLESS RUSHDOWN FTW, no matter what. (said before, but whatever, it's that important) -Also, when you do get hits on him, always make the most out of them. He can't use Nee-san if he keeps getting hit, so yeah. -And if Nee-san happens to want to grab you, and Carl is trying to advance on you at the same time (not necessarily both), eat the throw. By that, I mean intentionally get grabbed, then Throw Break it. It should create some space between you and Nee-san, and probably ruin Carl's plans for a ground loop. IIRC, it also gives you 15-20 invul-frames to stop Carl's attempt on a combo. That's all I have.

Lol this part. One time, Me and someone stayed in opposite corners, crouch blocking for like a minute.

He didn't want to get in between, and I wasn't going to let him wait me out. So there we were, sitting, waiting.. :P

a tip: don't abuse ID, unless you know it's going to get you out of the situation. If you've done it to me twice, in my mind, I think that you feel pretty good about yourself, invincible, maybe. I can't wait for you to try it again.

If a Carl can bait your ID, you're almost 100% in another ground loop.

I just started learning Ragna, so I figure I can post some tips from the Carl side of things. Also, anyone with XBL that wants to play this match-up this weekend/next week, lemme know.

That's all I have.

A good Carl isn't going to come after you very often. I try to secure the life lead, and then I just go hide behind Nirvana, making sure she's at max health for when you do approach. I'll take the negative penalty over approaching most times, unless I'm behind in health. Eventually, you have to approach, unless you want to lose by time-out. Then it's just one blocked move, and I can safely say "GGs" to 90% of players. The other 10%, I can still say GGs, just not as easily.

Try to secure momentum in this match-up. You won't be doing any KAQN style pressure on Carl, since any good Carls won't burst/won't burst until they're pretty much guaranteed to be dead. If you can get the life lead, however, you can force Carl to approach you, and not too many Carl players seem to have this aspect of their game down.

Milk the moments where momentum is in your favour. All he needs is 1-2 of those moments (3 if you have meter) and it's GGs.

Also, when pressuring him, be careful. He can roll through any aerial continuation of pressure (g.h). If he has meter, he can either CA>loop, or burst>loop, and drop the loop when you're at one health, then force you to block and kill you with Gear chip. Hell, he can do that without meter, since he'll get it from the clap loop.

Mappa punch is pretty good in this match-up, but don't go bein' stupid with it. IB blah blah, or (I think) rolling through it will ruin your day.

Carl's madd gay. Ragna is a G. Is why I wanna get decent with Ragna.

I'll take every hit on a ground loop I can before starting a throw loop. Even a 6C reset. (Just not against Ragna.) I don't care if my punch loop is over 8 hits, either. I'll go for 12-13 hits, and just j.Alle-can, 9B+C.

What's wrong with a little extra damage before you get throw happy?

The little extra wastes a lot of Nirvana meter. I only do extended ground loops if I smell a burst. That and throw looping nets you retarded amounts of tension. Ground loops are a good way to compensate for not being able to do complete throw loops, though. Esp any j.c or j.2c variations. Looping ragna is super easy, though, so I dunno why you'd give him any chances to meter build.

Yeaaaah About your j.c It's not that great in this fight. 6a beats it clean everytime, for some bizarre reason. Sol/Axis, we should play again when I renew my XBL! I want sumdat Ragna exp.

:D :D :D Kk GGs. Solo Carl for lyfe, son! Oh, if it's Carl going after you and Nirvana is dead/they don't feel like using her (pretty much only I go solo Carl for fun), don't burst ever. Carl does shit for damage. I mean like... 1.4k on his BnB, and 2.5k on big CH combos. So yeaaaaaah. Also, don't burst until you KNOW you're in the clap loop. You did too many anticipatory bursts, esp for how many combos I dropped. EDIT: My favourite Ragna bthrow combo is: back throw, dash, 6a, jc(or is it SJC?) j.c,j,d, JC j.c, j.d, 623D, kick followup Does good damage, is really easy to do, and ends in kd. Nice.

I have a lot of Carl Experience and the best thing I've done is keep that little bastard away from that evil ass puppet, usually with constant pressure strings and using 6A everytime he jumps in and tries to cross me up. All I gotta say is,you better be damn good at rushdown against a good Carl,make sure you give that little punk no room to breathe in the corner and make sure your moves eat away at his Guard Libra and Barrier Gauge.

Hells, games sometime? Need to get my XBL back, but I really need to know this match-up better. I eat stupid stuff all day long.

i got a question can we counter any of nirvanas moves if we just hit her?? im not sure if that works for all her moves because i think i tried to counter her moves and once i hit her she didnt stop so i think thats pretty important since most of her moves are somewhat slow. also i notice in some videos with kaqn and other jap ragna players facing carl, that they burst the first moment carl and nirvana is between them. is that safe to do for the avg player or is it only safe if you got a strong rushdown...which i dont have lastly anyone got vids of them playing carl?? i really dont want to see pros face other pros because there mixups/strategies require more skill than what i have so i want to see the avg player whos has a closer skill level to me face carls who are just avg players
