Pingas Posted February 27, 2010 Posted February 27, 2010 i actually prefer Keyboard over anything, so from being most used to keyboard most to stick is quite an experience =x for anything thats input intensive or has a lot of different buttons, i hate gamepads(pretty much anything on a competitive level?LOL) but yea sometimes its better to just start fresh than having to unlearn old stuff. took me at least couple weeks of frustration, but most people told me it takes 1-2 weeks to adjust to it fairly
IllogicalDreamr Posted February 27, 2010 Posted February 27, 2010 4 months of daily practice? THAT IS NOT COMFORTING! I don't recall it taking me that long to learn stick, but it does take a little while and daily practice. Find how you're most comfortable holding it and practice the same things over and over again until your hands and fingers bleed!! It'll be worth it. Stick is much better than pad.
Vyers Posted February 27, 2010 Posted February 27, 2010 Most people I've met learned stick in one or two months I'm an extreme example
so moe kona Posted February 27, 2010 Posted February 27, 2010 I learned SF4 on stick in 2 months (my first fighter I learned stick on). I learned ST on stick 1 month (due to tighter inputs). It's well worth the time and effort put in.
Mindgam3 Posted February 27, 2010 Posted February 27, 2010 Find how you're most comfortable holding it and practice the same things over and over again until your hands and fingers bleed!! But one of the advantages of using a stick is so that DOESN'T happen. My thumbs were a mass of calloused skin by the time I started using a stick, and I must say I quite enjoyed the fact that I could play for longer periods of time much more comfortably. I would say learning how to use an arcade stick for this very reason is by itself worth it. The fact that your execution becomes that much more consistent in the process makes me wonder how people could prefer pad in the first place (provided they have the means of getting a stick). It took me around 2-4 months to become somewhat proficient with a stick. However, I still don't believe I've mastered using it just yet (All in due time, I suppose). The most important thing is to constantly try out new grips/hand motions in order to figure out what is most comfortable/most efficient. Two games that I believe are essential to learning how to properly use a stick are ST and ::coughcoughGuiltyGearcough::. There is no bullshit, just precise motions and timing. GG is a little more lenient, but it makes up for that with various other concepts that require a good deal of execution (BDC'ing, charge-partitioning, jump-installing, etc.)
Fraga Posted February 27, 2010 Posted February 27, 2010 Most people I've met learned stick in one or two months I'm an extreme example Am I a freak to learn it in 2-3 weeks when I took it seriously?
Mindgam3 Posted February 28, 2010 Posted February 28, 2010 Am I a freak to learn it in 2-3 weeks when I took it seriously? My I-No vs. your Axl, FT5 $5 at ACT XIII. Land two reps of a Bomber loop that's not off of a throw (ex: TK Bomber, [2S, j.D, 623H] x2*, land, rensen, tap 2 (corner only)), and I'll give you $5.

Vyers Posted February 28, 2010 Posted February 28, 2010 Am I a freak to learn it in 2-3 weeks when I took it seriously? You must have a dexterity of 18. I have a dexterity of 7; I've gotten to the point I'm at now by putting all my skill points into Use Arcade Emulation Device (which is a cross class skill for my class: Sandwich Artist). Edit: For my feats I took skill focus: Use Arcade Emulation Device, and Disciple of Yomi (Which gives me a permanent +2 bonus for mind game checks, in fighting games.).

I'll also bring to light some good recommendations for practicing for both games.
