AraragiTheVamp Posted January 2, 2016 Posted January 2, 2016 I’ve just had some questions I’ve been meaning to ask in general about anime fighters I’ve been meaning to ask but haven't until now. When learning about other characters how should I go about this? Should I write/type what certain moves do for each character so I know and remember what it does? Is there anything specific I should note when doing so? When Learning about match ups for the characters I use what should I be figuring out other than what I can punish that character with and what that character can punish mine with? And since I don’t have a ton of experience with every character in all the fighting games I have how do I deal with this, I’m assuming now that I should just come here and find someone that would maybe play some matches and watch some videos of my character vs. whoever and see what that does for me is what I think I should do. For replays and just watching matches on youtube/twitch or in game to learn, what are the key things I should try to look for other than what worked and what didn’t work? Getting better at defense I’ve read that learning character gatlings is the to go since they tell you what the moves cancel into and of course I have to know what the moves already look like so I can prepare for high and low attacks but what is a good way to practice this and what are key things to remember form each characters combo chart? For Instant blocking is there an easier way to do it? And punishing blockstrings and moves with instant block without testing it out in game first in a game like Blazblue and P4AU? Because I know GGXRD has that frame data app which has a punish list depending on what characters you pick but which is great and it even shows you what’s punishable on instant. But games like BB and P4AU there isn’t an app like that so if there is a move that is punishable only by instant blocking especially in a blockstring of some sort how do I figure it out? For frame data on moves does it matter, especially in a higher level of play, to know how many frames in movement/moves characters have other than what’s plus and minus(punishable) on block? If so what else should I know? And lastly footsies, does another characters footsies just beat out other characters or does the spacing and timing of ones footsies beat the other opponents? And how do you practice this exactly and know you’re doing it right? I think that’s about it for now for what I’ve been wanting to know for a long time now. I love fighting games and enjoy them at my level but I want to get better so I can enjoy them on a higher level than I am now. Which I know is gonna take a lot of practice.
