Hi, all. I'm in need of some help finding an Xrd character that fits the following criteria:

  • Strong neutral, particularly with excellent anti-air options.
  • Strong options / buttons for dealing with opponent's pressure, preferably meterless.

I don't have any particular preferences for the offensive side of the equation, so damage, pressure, mixups, and oki aren't of concern - I just want to have the appropriate tools to deal with whatever the opponent tries offensively.

From skimming the wiki descriptions, it sounded like Axl, Ky, Bedman, and Faust might be decent bets, but I might be totally off-base. Feel free to correct, highlight, or suggest others.

What about Elphelt, even after her nerfs and what not. What's her gameplan look like and drop Venom completely or just wait until I get more accustomed to the game?

A lot of Venom's early challenge missions teach you how to do buffer inputs so you can combo off setups. It's a little tricky at first but between practicing execution, strategy and GG fundamentals a new player, it's going to be a heavy load to learn all at once (but every player learns differently so I guess best thing to do is just try it and see where it gets you). Elphelt is still the Elphelt, just with less brain-dead oki. A lot of the "brain-dead oki" got nerfed in the newest patch. Like I said, don't pick a character based on tier, do it based on whatever appeals to you. Do the challenges and see if their playstyle flows for you.

Ky. Hands down. He's got two of the best anti-airs in the game as well as a really good neutral/footsies game. Vapor Thrust isn't the best reversal, but its definitely not the worst. He's basically got a tool for any situation.

Well I have done most of their challenges, that's how I got to like those 3 characters (Ramlethal and Venom more based on their looks, but their challenges were also super fun) (Elphelt more because I heard she was top tier, and her challenges were really, underwhelming for me, so I guess she doesn't really click with me, so I guess I answered my Elphelt question).

Now, I know there are tons of vids out there of Venom/Ramlethal, the real question is, which top players of those characters should I be studying. Right now I just see a lot of vids of low rank Venoms or Ramlethals online and it really is very discouraging, lol.

Fino, Isamu, and Sanma for Venom, Karinchu for Ram. This is stuff you can find on the character specific forums. And again with the tiers :psyduck:

Heh, sorry about that. Thanks though.

Hey guys, I posted in the noob section the other day and got great responses. I've played through all the challenges ~15-20 of each character (atleast as far as I could go). Since I'm still a noob I have a feeling my choices are limited to an extent. However I know I don't want a charge character, or a character where I'm "controling" other units Ramlethal/Zato/etc. Pref a character who's combos are relativly easy to pickup and someone who has a better allowance for "messing up" if that makes sense >.>

Ramlethal isn't really that complicated to control. Not to mention she has a very adaptable playstyle so you don't necessarily HAVE to rely on the swords being out. When they are though, it's pretty straightforward. Zato is much more difficult since Eddie's movement isn't automated (Ramlethal's swords always come out at a set distance so once you understand the spacing, the rest is easy peasy). Sol and Ky are both pretty straightforward characters. They have both decent offensive and defensive options so if you're getting blown up, you have a chance of getting out of it.

Hello,

I'm having trouble looking for main in GG (considering Jam got cut.....-_-). Apparently, the characters im interested in so far are Ram, or Elphet. I like rushdown characters that are arent that basic or have a catch to it.( Tsubaki = charge meter, Jam = cards, Izayoi = Gain Mater). Which one would be better considering 2.0 update coming up? Which is more viable after the update?

I hope i dont get ignored like last time T-T

Leo has a stance where his back is turned. I hope that gets you somewhere.

Leo's got some rushdown to him as well a stance mechanic you gotta learn.

Considering Platinum, although I'm not a fan of the RNG, item shennagins look too fun to pass up. What does she excel at?

Annoying the living hell out of her opponents.  And no, that's not a punchline.  Plat excels at filling the screen with a LOT of stuff to help her RTSD.  She does a lot of things, but it mostly comes down to (literally) luck of the draw.

Watching a Terumi curbstomp her is literally one of the most satisfying things to watch.

Hi guys! I'm not sure I'm looking for advice here but I did want to talk about my "main dilema."
So I've been playing Xrd since December and I still have not settled on a main. I usually choose my mains pretty fast too. The first day I play a game, I'm usually like "Ooooh! this character looks weird/cool/whatever! I'm gonna play them FOREVER!" and then thats it; I make my decision. :P

Have any of you guys ever (seriously) played a fighting game without ever, truly maining a character? If so, did you find that it helped your matchup knowledge? (as opposed to predominately playing only one character?)

Random Select Button is my main.

Before aming a charater, search for characteristics you want in a character, in my case are Speed and Low-to-Mid Execution.

Mortal Kombat 2, because they all played the same.

Well I don't know if you can call Smash Bros. a fighting game but my friend pretty much knows the entire cast of Melee. He has no "main character". He just has some that he's better with than others. He's actually too indecisive to pick so he just plays everyone. He's also somewhat of an exception because I swear he's a born natural so I don't recommend playing every character. If you really can't decide then just do challenge mode with everyone. See who fits best. Also, someone mentioned researching characters and their characteristics. That's good advice.

So, here's the thing: you should play every character. You don't need to invest all your time into the character, but at a most basic level, it's good to know how the character works, feels and plays. Knowing what the character is capable of helps with understanding match-ups since you'll know what their gameplan is, what they want to do, and how you can counterplay it.

So glad this thread exists.

Is there a character who's max. damage ouput does not require high execution level? Like I picked up Sol and I recognize how important his difficult d-loops are, but... I'm interested in a side character(s) that I could pick up more quickly afterwards. Any suggestions, guys? Ky seems really well-rounded.

Leo if you're willing to spend $8.

Faust and Leo... Darn. Faust is weird so I don't reaaally want to play him right now. I will look into him though. I like how Leo's style looks but yeah $8 fuaarrc... But thanks for the suggestions nonetheless, guys. :)

Anybody else y'all think fits my description? (Low-mid execution for max dmg.)
