DarkZero Posted May 4, 2006 Posted May 4, 2006 prorate usually affects the combo damage if it is used to begin a move. but forced prorate scales the damage following the move even if it is used in middle of a combo. i.e. sol's sidewinder, dizzy's ice spike, and many others. Ok I understand forced prorate but prorate I don't quite understand completely. So its better not to start a combo that prorates, correct.? What if I used an attack that prorates(not forced) in the middle of a combo; will the rest of the hits be affected as well? Thanks. Sorry for the nooby questions.
Tritone Posted May 4, 2006 Posted May 4, 2006 No, normally a move that prorates only affects the combo if it is the first hit. So you can use a move that prorates in the middle of a combo and it won't change the damage %, but if you use it first, it will.
DarkZero Posted May 4, 2006 Posted May 4, 2006 Understood. Now I have to stop using cr.K for Order-Sol for a starter in a combo since it prorates 70%, ouch.
orka Posted May 4, 2006 Posted May 4, 2006 Understood. Now I have to stop using cr.K for Order-Sol for a starter in a combo since it prorates 70%, ouch. well, not necessarily. the reason prorates exists for certain moves are to prevent them from becoming too abusive or game-breaking. standing and crouching punch as well as kick for most characters have prorate associated with them because they have few frames of start-up. it is okay to start combos with prorating moves, but you should think twice before you decide to burn tension (rc/frc, super) in middle of these combos if it is really worth it for the amount of total damage the combo will end up delivering.
Tritone Posted May 4, 2006 Posted May 4, 2006 Orka! The avatar you made for me was deleted by a mod or admin or something I miss Habanero-tan
orka Posted May 4, 2006 Posted May 4, 2006 dammit. dunno... maybe the mods found them to be too arousing. or maybe they had beef with the tulip borders. flower haters!! you could always use it on srk or something.
Tritone Posted May 4, 2006 Posted May 4, 2006 Yeah I got a PM about it. He CLAIMED that loli panties cross the line. (But really, I think we all know that your avatars were making theirs look bad.) And I am using it on SRK :-O
orka Posted May 4, 2006 Posted May 4, 2006 o well. it was meant to be a joke in the first place. i made it look as girly as possible cus that was eli's request but then it somehow caught on. and the funny thing is... the source pic wasn't really loli. it's hawt though. pm me if anybody wants to see.
hatorri hanzo Posted May 6, 2006 Posted May 6, 2006 What Ever happened to Fierce Gear? that online Guilty Gear game. that Programmer was suppose to make? Did he just steal people's money or it's still in the works?
shinquickman Posted May 6, 2006 Posted May 6, 2006 He laughed his way to the bank. No one knows what happened to the guy, really. After all this time, it's pretty easy to assume that Fierce Gear isn't gonna happen.
M.D. Posted May 7, 2006 Posted May 7, 2006 Not only that , but i downloaded the source code and i looked in it with a friend of mine, and the actual network/sync part is missing almost at all. I don't know what that guy intended to do but from that source code, it was anything but online ggx . Besides, my friend modified an open source joystick emulation driver so his keyboard would emulate on my comp the joystick and viceversa. It worked, but since no sync to the games was made, it was so hard for both of us to start a round identically the same so we gave up. I think it might work if you have 2 computers next to each other and only play in one monitor with one game, which kinda solves nothing
Church Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 I have a very noob question about blocking low. Is the low block range smaller than in other fighting games? For instance, I find it easier to block low in Capcom fighting games than in GG games. Think of it like a clock, and let's say you're facing the right. In Street Fighter games, low blocking seems to occur between 6 and 9 o'clock, exlcusive. However, in Guilty Gear, it seems a bit more strict, like it is between 7 and 8 o'clock (inclusive, I guess). I use the PS2 controller analog stick, so I know my thumb isn't straight on the stick, and I think that GG only has 8 directions, but still. I have no problem blocking a low kick from Ryu, but a hair wagon from Millia gets me almost every time. Has anyone else had this problem, or do I just suck really, really bad?
RedTao Posted May 12, 2006 Posted May 12, 2006 Heya, I'm purchasing a slimline PS2 and I want to make sure I know what I need to play guilty gear on it... I know for a normal PS2 you need a swap magic disc and a flip-top or something. But, since the PSTwo slimline is toploading, do I still need to buy that flip-top, or can I just buy the swap magic? I saw a post earlier in this thread about someone who did it just by taping down some sensors, but I haven't gotten a chance to look inside a slimline yet so I wouldn't know what to tape down. Thanks!
Teyah Posted May 12, 2006 Posted May 12, 2006 Church: I think the reason why low blocking seems so different is... almost nobody uses analog sticks to play 2D fighters so the developers probably spent like zero minutes testing the function out! Seriously, why use an analog stick when the game itself is digital and only has the standard 8 directions? It's probably just different coding of the 'Analog' function for each game is all... and it amounts to nothing in the end since 99% of everyone uses either stick/pad to play, which are both digital. Btw "hair wagon" is pretty creative~
Venom Scrub Posted May 12, 2006 Posted May 12, 2006 If I want to play a non import game on a Swap Magic modded PS2(you know, where you just take off the disc tray faceplate) can I just use the regular buttons?
rtl42 Posted May 15, 2006 Posted May 15, 2006 I have a question regarding a fliptop mod for a v8 PS2: I just put my fliptop on and when I got my copy of Slash going, I heard this incredibly loud and frequent clicking noise coming from inside my PS2 when I tried to load my first battle. The game then wouldn't load the battle for me, and I also couldn't soft reset. Has anyone else had this problem, and does anyone know what I can do to fix it? P.S.: Just for clarification, the game seemed to function fine, otherwise -- it was just when I tried to start a battle, the "Versus" screen would come up, and then it'd go black and nothing would load.
Champloo Posted May 15, 2006 Posted May 15, 2006 Who is Shinquickman? He seems very knowledgeable about the Game but i have never seen his name appear in Any tourney listings. Where he from and who plays against him?

Heh, I dunno what to say. Naw man, I haven't been to any tournies. I play some really good players though like Flashmetroid and Heidern98 from time to time. They've told me my playing level is "tournament worthy" so I'm actually thinking of going to one. Serious Ohio tourny maybe if I could get my manager to give me a 3 day weekend. Doesn't hurt that my birthday's coming by either.
HmR.kS Posted May 15, 2006 Posted May 15, 2006 I don't know why I'm asking this. Hmm, how old are you shinquickman? What about Flash and Heidern? =/
shinquickman Posted May 15, 2006 Posted May 15, 2006 It's on my personal info, but I'm gonna be 19 in a week. Flash, 18 I guess. Heidern I can't remember, but he's younger than he looks.
HmR.kS Posted May 15, 2006 Posted May 15, 2006 The older you are, the smarter and wiser you SHOULD get. o_O I lost to a kid slayer one day. Dammit.
