CakeWasBannedd Posted July 16, 2010 Posted July 16, 2010 Discuss the Hazama matchup here. 2D is useful as an antiair, and on counterhit leads into 6k. Watch out for 214D (the move where he stands there charging) it can lead into an overhead or a dragon punch. The dragon punch destroys your air approach, so be wary of airdashing in. You can crawl below chains, then as he comes in, 3C.
Ronove Posted July 16, 2010 Posted July 16, 2010 My 2 cents from my initial matchup experience: the charge move can be baited if you're already in the air. Good Hazamas will likely try to stay in the air, using their chains as air to ground/air-to-air zoning. Watch out for his j.B (the kick), he can easily go for j.B > flash kick super if not through the grab. I need to test how reliable is Tao's improved 6A against that. Other than that, this matchup is pretty similar to the Lambda/Nu one except Hazama really can't pressure like Lambda does, but he's definetely better at punishing if he has meter. You either manage to stick on him right away and keep the pressure, or you patiently move around with jumps. His sweep has really good range, so be aware of your spacing even when you're landing on ground.
kataridragon Posted August 31, 2010 Posted August 31, 2010 Ok so I have a lot of experience with this match. Tips: Be careful not to drive into hazamas "flash kick". On counter it can do decent damage and combo into distortion. "Flash kick" is probably his best move in this matchup. Watch out for snakes when trying to get in. Once again mind your drives so you don't get countered. His sweep (3c) has great range but if you can predict it you can crush (Tekken term) his 3c with a 6b. But sometimes tao will hop directly over him. Be aware. Hazama does not combo well while he is crouched because a 5b 6a loop wont work. The first hit of 6a will miss. Try to counter hit him when he is snaking around with a well timed 2d~a for a counter or j.c. My guess is that this match is not in Taos favor...
Cryingvoid Posted August 31, 2010 Posted August 31, 2010 Many Hazamas abuse their snake-self drawing technique. It can be successfully punished with 6C. A good way to make him watch for this kind of spam.
kataridragon Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 The more I play this match the more I beleive Hazama is something of Tao counter. Trying to get in with Tao can be extremely hard. His drive out does taos approaches. His flash kick keeps tao from using drive mixups. Her combos dont work effectivly against hazamas small hitbox. However now there is a hazama specific tloop. Does anyone have any better strats against Hazama this besides baiting?
Ronove Posted November 12, 2010 Posted November 12, 2010 Been playing a solid Hazama at the local ranbat, and I had trouble keeping the pressure up. His 5A is truly a damn good antiair/antipressure tool it makes it hard for Tao to reset and get in comfortably. Any tips? Besides crawling under 5A.
Lord Knight Posted November 12, 2010 Posted November 12, 2010 At least from playing this matchup as Hazama, it was really hard for me. Hazama's best tools are jB (active for a long time), 214DB (invul from 6th frame), 5A (5f startup, good hitbox), 2C (active for a long time, great trading tool). His drive is weak in this match, Tao's mobility is too strong. I feel like if Tao's j.B is already active, it should beat his 5A.
CakeWasBannedd Posted November 12, 2010 Author Posted November 12, 2010 crawl beats everything he can do off of his shadow stance (214D~X) except for the scoop, and if you react quick enough you can just block the scoop. stay away from him when you're not at an advantage, 5A leads to combos and combos lead to meter and meter leads to jayoku. play safe, abuse the fact that your mobility is much better than his, and generally be an annoying kitty :3
Ronove Posted November 12, 2010 Posted November 12, 2010 I feel like if Tao's j.B is already active, it should beat his 5A. This I can confirm. The problem I had with his 5A was that it has a really good hitbox, it makes it hard to rush him down since everytime I'm resetting pressure at the end of a blockstring a good chunk of options get denied by that move. He has a good comfort zone within that range so I guess I'll probably have to bait more rather than trying to forcefully going in. One thing I realized too late during the ranbat was that using at max range CH 5C > 2C > drive to get in wasn't that bad of an idea, because it would create the opportunity to ~B cancel past him and make him guess after that (either go for low, grab or crossup j.B). But yeah, the more I think about what I did then and what are Hazama's best tools the more I realize that it's a matchup that Tao can't play by going all-out but rather by forcing mistakes with mobility.
KM Riku Posted November 12, 2010 Posted November 12, 2010 (edited) Hazama has some good options to counter Tao pressure (5A, 2C, 214D~B, Jayoku)...It's not really a good idea to reset your pressure against him in the first place, just make sure you are doing safe blockstrings against Jayoku/214D~B and keep yourself safe after any drive cancel. It's better stoping your pressure and keeping yourself safe than getting hit by Hazama, taking damage and letting him get meter for Jayoku. Hazama can't really zone Tao effectly, you just need to take care about 214D~B while getting close to him. In this case, you can bait 214D~B and punish it with 6C, doing your opponent think twice before using 214D~B. Btw, I loved your new avatar Ronove...even though I liked Extra Caster (~moe) better :3 Edited November 12, 2010 by KM Riku
