If that's all you'd be doing you might want to do what I did. Bought a cheap gun case, an easy to mod PCB, buttons ect. and put the thing together myself. Assuming you have tools on hand it's about $100. Maybe an extra $30 if you don't have soldering tools and wire. Best part is it's easy to mod because you built it yourself. :o [link] Also, Hori PCBs are kinda fragile when you start soldering on them. I broke the directions one the one I had... I know there's an image of the PCB I modded around SRK so that might give you a better idea.

Mightfo Posted August 9, 2011 Author Posted August 9, 2011 so does anyone know how much it costs to get your stick ps2 modded or who could do it around here :1 i would like to get into GG and fuck with hokuto on stick
TransientFaith Posted August 9, 2011 Posted August 9, 2011 is the stock stick any good, i can't ever find em. only see the TE's The SE stick is gawdawful. I'm pretty sure ronin can vouch for me on this one. Highly recommended you just replace it off the bat. Occasionally you can find the SE's for $30 online (when they are not out of stock)

Mightfo Posted August 9, 2011 Author Posted August 9, 2011 (edited) So, Texas Bar Fights 5, September 3rd. I know what some of you are thinking. BB will only have 6-14 people, why bother? Why not just do a normal meetup? I'll tell you why: Because this isnt only about Blazblue. This is about any game that has to work to get decent turnouts at tourneys and decent scenes. This is about Guilty Gear, Arcana, KOF, Melty, or whatever other non-Capcom game that struggles. If more people are interested in a game like BB or Arcana or whatever because of tourney attention, they're going to be more open and attentive to similar games. And people actually going to tournaments and being hype as fuck for games like this draws attention and legitimacy, period. I don't give a shit if the money isn't big. Tourneys aren't about that. Plus, I bet that there's going to be at least a few more people participating/interested due to EVO. If we want games like these to get decent turnouts outside of a few good majors, we have to work for it, especially when we're not on the west coast. This isn't something that just magically happens overnight, but we do our part. Additionally, I don't know about you guys, but I wanna challenge anyone who comes to tourneys and doesnt normally come to meetups. Nash, Pozerwolf, Woof, whatever. We all fucking want to win, and encourage these people to participate more and more and get hype going. Also, I know some of you want to go and participate in Marvel/SF4. I wouldn't mind watching some Jet in SF4/Pfhor in MVC/whatever. If we could, getting some casuals going for Arcana would be good, too. Securing blaz casual setups (Unlike last time?) would be good too. Hell, someone bring a ps2 setup for some GG casuals. (also, im not saying play bb even if you dont play bb, im just saying show up and play/hype up the games you love) Edited August 9, 2011 by Mightfo
Mightfo Posted August 9, 2011 Author Posted August 9, 2011 So, with that said, who's up for grinding some BB/Arcana friday? My place, unless frigid/jet are up for hosting. I'm up for staying till like midnight. GRIND GRIND GRIND. Let's fucking grind. Frigid, I know you want grind some Lambda skills. Let's fucking do it. Also, since cookie can't go to TBF5 IIRC, who'd be up for taking me?
Frigiddeath Posted August 9, 2011 Posted August 9, 2011 snip I am going to be as real as I can be about this. I pretty much agree with everything you said might, but I don't know how many people really want to put in the work to get there. I can tell just from playing you on Friday I was not just losing to you because I am out of practice; you have worked pretty hard to level up your Litchi. To have a good scene is a group effort; everyone has to be moving towards the same goal of getting better overall. This takes a lot of time, people and commitment to actually do at any level of success. I would ask how far does everyone here actually want to go and how much work are you willing to put in to get there. When I quit fighting games the last time around 19 I did so to play WoW. I trained like hell in that game with all of my friends backing me up. We all read how to be better at our jobs. I studied how to get higher DPS and find hidden tech to get ahead of everyone even if I was playing a weaker class. I went with the arcane tech before most people even knew it existed. My friend was a healer and learned all of the tricks and would spend hours reworking everything down to the UI, button placement, ect to be the best. My tank friend was all about finding his sweet spots between mit and threat to the point of even getting laughed at for some of his ideas that would later be proven to be 100% right and way ahead of their time. This took a lot of work, like 30 hours a week at least. I had multiple top 5 world DPS records on my mage. We were the A team. How many people here are willing to even put in 20% of what we did to get that good in any game. A lot of people have lives and some of us just want to play for fun. I would be more up to grinding out multiple games if I knew I had a solid team willing to put in even 1 or 2 hours online a couple of nights a week plus traveling to meet ups, FNF, tournaments, ect. The problem is I don't think we have that yet. It is pretty hard to stay motivated to practice when you are only doing it once a week for a few hours. For a lot of us that is fine, for the determined it is better to go to other things where the people are there. Danni has been leveling up his LoL game because he has the team to do it. He plays Marvel online when he is on a down time, but who is practicing with him? No one is helping him level up his game, so he does not take it as seriously. I am in the same boat. I am just been playing online a night or so a week because when I get home I rather just watch TV than play random people online or grind out combos for something I do once a week for 5 or 8 hours. I just want to say this is not an attack to anyone who just wants to play for fun. This is a hobby after all and the amount of work you put in is up to you, but if we are even going to think about expanding a scene and leveling up to get people to take notice of it; it is going to take a lot more work than I think most people want to put in. I could be wrong and maybe people will come up with a plan to make it work, but for now I am cool with just chilling and playing for the lawlz of it. Jet said he was going to host on Friday and I will probably show up unless I am dead tired from work. So see everyone then.
Mightfo Posted August 10, 2011 Author Posted August 10, 2011 (edited) Oh, jet will host friday? Alright then. snip You make a lot of good points. I was aware of many of them when I posted, but I posted anyway. I dunno. I realize that players in a scene can only get as good/be as serious as the scene can "Fuel". And really, I have nothing against meetups being rather "casual". I love rotating between games I actually know how to play(BB, AH3, eventually KOF) and games I just screw around with in various degrees of seriousness. But at the same time, while I really don't mind that sort of meetup, I still have a drive to try and get as good as I can with Litchi/Lilica(i am going to work on blockstrings with her tomorrow/thursday, fucking promise) even though I fucking refuse to play online(maybe that's my first mistake, but..) and even though we dont have enough players coming to meetups for me to get enough experience to really be a "good" Litchi in terms of fighting characters like Tao, Hazama, etc. I can't help but feel frustrated sometimes, and I want TBF to be more than it can be at this stage. Additionally, I can't drive to people and I know my time is going to be fucking choked once classes roll around, so I have limits beyond the scene. I dunno. Maybe I'll be in a good spot for that sort of thing when I move to Portland or Seattle in about 2 years. PNW has a really strong scene. I totally understand what you mean regarding rather doing other things than work on something that you only do a night a week. I dunno, I guess in some ways I just want more than we can really do right now, but I don't disagree with anything you said and really enjoy how we run it right now. This post is rather rambly and I dont know what else to do with it even though I feel like I have more things to say, so i'll just stop here. Edited August 10, 2011 by Mightfo
Frigiddeath Posted August 10, 2011 Posted August 10, 2011 snip again Like I said the biggest thing is how many people do you have and at what level. Going back to my WoW days I was an officer and had to be an complete loud mouth asshole to everyone for mostly slacking off and not being up to my standards. The problem was is that I was expecting more than we had at the time. I was not playing with Paragon or SK Gaming (top 5 guilds in the world) I was dealing with a mix of casuals and semi hardcore people who just wanted to dick around. That did not mean that those who were like me did not have a vent channel all set up for us to talk about higher level gaming. I think we just need 5 or so dedicated people to level up our game rather well. The other thing is time. We played WoW seriously 4 days of week, as in no less than 6 to 7 hour straight and and probably about 2 to 4 hours on any day that was not a raid night. The good thing is we don't need that much time, but having 2 nights where we meet up to grind it out would be a good thing. We would have to find said players and then make goals to what we need to do that night and work towards it. Anyone could come, but we would be working on our game. Think of it like Option select streams. They do it on Monday and Thursday. Any day we are not at a meet up we find out what is going on with each of us and just play online for the match up experience and to work out certain bad habits and kinks. The problem is I don't think we all have the same system and would have to find a way to actually talk to each other to work things out and make suggestions. If we can find those two and commit to trying to level up then it could work. Talk to everyone and see what everyone goals are in the short to mid term and see what happens. None of this happens over night or even in a months. You got to go at it for months on end and do your best about being there. Once again, it is a team effort if you want to have a good scene.
Mightfo Posted August 10, 2011 Author Posted August 10, 2011 (edited) snipcon 09 Well, I proposed doing tuesday stuff and we did that for a while, but it didnt last that long and was pretty small and it was pretty heavily influenced by "These 3 people cant do fri/sat," which changed. Regarding online, we could easily talk to each other via IRC or AIM or hell, skype. I think Ronin, Dances, and Aloha are the only ones who dont have PS3s. Oso too but I think he lacks anything right now. And iirc nash is 360 only but I have no idea what is up with him. Doesnt go to meetups, not even fight club, just arrives at tournaments and does well. I guess he plays online a lot. It would be hard for me to do much more than a meetup a week and a few hours of training a week once school starts, though. Especially since my classes are getting more demanding as I go on. I also feel like we really lack cars outside of jet/frigid/cookie/supaa. But yeah, we should definitely talk about this sort of thing with everyone in the scene more. Tizzy Posted August 10, 2011 Posted August 10, 2011 Have a car. ( 2 actually) Don't have a stick, and have been loosing motivation to practice until I buy one. Probably get one in 3-5 weeks. So I never go to anything tourney wise, haven't been here long enough to consider going meet-up wise, and despise playing online with a controller. and there is me related to this conversation

Mightfo Posted August 10, 2011 Author Posted August 10, 2011 Frigid, have you messed with using Lambda's 214a in close range blockstrings before? I don't mean for FC fishing or for the guard primer->RC. I mean for the setup afterwards due to pushback.
Mightfo Posted August 10, 2011 Author Posted August 10, 2011 BBCS2+ loketest starts today. Wondering what they'll do with Litchi. Interested to see if they make Bang/Ragna more appealing to me, too.
TransientFaith Posted August 10, 2011 Posted August 10, 2011 I hope they let me continue being a ring master of Noel's invincibility circus...
