They do get what they are promised, its just that they're usually terrible chefs and are fired/forced to resign within a year or two.

Yeah, they usually get a head sou chef job as part of winning. They have a one year contract at the place promised. After that, they're usually fired/let go once the contract expires because they're actually terrible chefs anyways. I think the only chef to win Hell's Kitchen that is actually working at some baller as place is the first season's winner.
