I was also looking at Ky and Slayer but it looked like Slayer is press 5 buttons and they're dead while Ky is press 5000 buttons and they're still alive.

1. Knock down

2. 50/50

3. Repeat until you win

Millia is hard.

learning to frc haircair on different frames and actually setting up millia mixups is not my idea of beginner friendly in the least.

not to mention millia neutral game without pin is brutal if you lack matchup exp.

ok. so what is your idea of beginner friendly in the context of guilty gear?

Well it looks like you'll be missing out on the most beautiful character in Guilty Gear.

cause hitting j.D and 2D is hard.

I'll listen to whatever sean says, since he actually _started_ with millia.

it depends on your strengths as a player. if you have good execution (if you've only played bb before, i hate to break it to you, but this is probably not the case) you can probably pick up whoever you want if you stick with them. but, generally speaking, i think an ideal beginner character has two of the following three: easy bnb's, relatively simple neutral game and/or easy, basic mixups. if you think millia is all of the above, i would like to see you play an entire match without the pin. :)

i think we can all agree that potemkin is one of the easier characters to learn? not to say that potemkin in general is easy, but he has a forgiving initial learning curve (easy bnb's, relatively easy to understand compared to most of the cast).

slayer i would say is a good beginner choice as well, especially if you're a capcom player. again, not to say slayer in general is easy, but who can't understand 6K/2D/throw? he's st ryu minus a fireball.

past those two though, i think it becomes player specific. i would only advise against eddie, millia and aba for first picks because they require decent execution right off the bat. then again, perhaps that's my own weaknesses as a player speaking.

that being said, this is still guilty gear; everyone is hard and you're always going to have something to learn.

I finally got to reading the Yu Suzuki interview. Hearing how he and his team had to make a game from scrach including the debugger and hardware is godlike. Plus developers should be given more creative freedom. Honestly, some of the best games ever are either the games no one has played before or the games everyone thought would be failures. Old-school Sega FTW. :toot:

The fact there's always something to learn in Guilty Gear is why it's my favorite fighting game since I first played it. :kitty:

they're much easier in america, since people don't stagger out of rekka.

I think you might have the wrong idea of FRC Haircar. What determines whether it hits or not when you FRC into j.K, for example, is the timing of the oki. Her fundamental oki setups are actually pretty simple.

Against characters who are stronger at the neutral game than you are, yeah I'll agree that Millia neutral game without pin is quite difficult, but let's not forget that she wasn't really designed to fight in this situation to begin with. That being said, proper pin usage is essential.

I'll play you as Millia without pin if you want :).

But I'll agree that Millia isn't really a good choice for a beginner, not because of combos (her essential combos are pretty easy; you just have to know the theory behind delayed attacks/airdash cancels), but because of how to use your pin and, more importantly, if you lose your pin, how to stay alive and get it back (there's a reason why Japanese Millia players, when they lose their pin, they only play the neutral game without it until they get an opportunity to get it back). Her lack of a solid, strong neutral game will be disorienting for beginners who are just running around throwing pins, missing, trying to get them back, and then getting raped. Her mixups aren't very hard to understand if you know your options. There are some advanced ones you could learn, but only crazy people like Koichi do them. If you watch Woshige, you'll see how simple, yet solid, his Millia gameplay is.

I'm kind of iffy on calling Slayer a good beginner character. On one hand, the character will do a lot of work for you (read: at lower levels) with his strong attacks, random invincibility on moves and dashes, and amazing combo potential. On the other hand, because the character does a lot of work for you (read again: at lower levels), more fundamental things like FD usage and instant block won't be as emphasized.

I'd call Ky the best character for a beginner to learn. Easy combos to start with, good foundation for learning the neutral game (uatilizing FD brake, spacing, zoning), good pokes, good oki.

I still say Baiken is the best character for a beginner to learn. Its like playing pot but hiding under the guise of a real character. You give yourself a giant lead up against opponents just by being baiken. living longer = getting to play more = learning more. her basic combos are simple, she has some nice pressure strings that you can kind of autopilot at low levels, and allows you to play within your comfort zone a lot of the time.

also think faust is godlike to start with. low execution dependency (u dont really need fdc j.2k at low level), low combo dependency, really only a handful of basic combos needed to get the ball rolling, your character kind of does the strategy for you lol.

that being said ky is definitely the best balance between beginner friendly and inducing actual learning.

That's sorta true about Faust. You don't really need any huge combos to win as him.

Dropping in to say i'm still not dead, despite popular belief. I know i've seen dacid and copperdabbit at SVGL recently, but yeah. I'll just say i'll definitely be at the January install. I sold my BBCS setup and stuff (making to switch from 360 to PS3) and i should have a setup by christmas, and i'll be able to start getting better again!

i actually planned on being at this month's install, but the 4th was too busy for me, as my birthday was on the 6th, and i had already planned my birthday things at SVGL with my technika bromo's and had rented out the machien for the day, so there wasn't any way i was making it to install that day. BUT I PROMISE ILL BE THERE IN JANUARY I SWEAR.
