archling Posted December 20, 2010 Posted December 20, 2010 Fundamentals in BB? What the fuck are you smoking?
AlterGenesis Posted December 20, 2010 Posted December 20, 2010 im better than nazir but i quit bb hell i dont even play fighting games anymore maybe platina will save me
K2 Posted December 20, 2010 Posted December 20, 2010 The only way to get better is to come out and get destroyed every god damn week. do u all know english? if i understand that i don't c y u don't welcome to lovegety and become a fiend
AlterGenesis Posted December 20, 2010 Posted December 20, 2010 (edited) oh btw sorry sauga had to ditch a lot of the sauga stuff rides on me soooooooo, i was busy, i was told i had a house party for my bro's b-day last minute and i told moon i had to cancel showing up with my team, ending up going to the club that night for a party andddd yeah, fighting games have been pushed to the side like an ex-girlfriend so i think even i went, although rae is most likely the only one in top form at the time, neither i or our third have played in over 2 months, so we prob wouldn't be too much comp, so i didn't think it would be canceled if we decided not to go just let me know if bbcs2 ever comes out in arcade, ill bring sauga down so we can get some FREEBOX maybe that will rekindle love of fightan games Edited December 20, 2010 by AlterGenesis
magus704 Posted December 20, 2010 Posted December 20, 2010 There are clubs in Sauga (Being totally serious here)? I thought there were only strip malls and that arena where the Majors play.
AlterGenesis Posted December 21, 2010 Posted December 21, 2010 there are like 5 major clubs in sauga, in addition to the bars and strip clubs and what have you sauga isn't some ghetto city like milton or something, no offense to anyone who lives there, there are lots of things to do here
Fiedrik Posted December 21, 2010 Posted December 21, 2010 lol i come to gety and i still suck lol I have seen some improvement, not much though, probably not going to gety enough lol.
X-Sapphire Posted December 21, 2010 Posted December 21, 2010 It's not quite this simple. I'm not going to speak for anyone but myself and some of you have seen me play so you know where I'm at. Where I am now is a result exclusively of my training mode (and random online games) time because the trip to Lovegety is unruly and expensive and it's entirely impossible to get regular offline play for myself. This isn't an issue of stepping "the fuck" up, this is an issue of the competition being so concentrated and so sparse at the same time that if you're not part of the narrow paradigm of known regulars, you're probably not going to be (regardless of your skill level) any time soon. This is compounded by the fact that nearly everyone who is good at BlazBlue treats the game as if everything known about it is obvious, making it hard for genuinely new players (IE players who didn't import their fighting game skill set directly from GG) like myself to get a crack at becoming good competition. I am at Lovegety literally every chance that I get (which amounts to about once a month -- the whole trip costs me about $70 -- transportation + food + tokens -- and takes all day unless someone drives me, which is rare). I spend more than enough time in training mode, I practice pretty much every day and I'm constantly working on getting better. The notion that the lack of competition is because of people giving up is total BS; the Toronto scene is largely shackled up in one small arcade and breaking into it is nearly impossible for those of us who can't be there regularly. If there was a conscious effort to put out tournaments that were advertised somewhere other than this thread (I only heard about TFNS because I was fortunate enough to have a fellow Toronto player message me about it) I assure you, you will pull a larger and more varied scene simply because it's easier to justify the trip and these people you so affectionally refer to and generalize as "scrubs" will be more able and willing to put in the time needed to get better, because tournament results are RESULTS and because the community will seem less like the group-of-friends-in-a-public-space that it seems like now. As much as I respect your initiative to come out, you are somewhat ignorant. You speak like this is the first tournament that ever occurred. In fact, every previous tournament was advertised on SRK, DLOOP (outside of this thread), TZ, and at gety. I did not see you, nor any other new players at the previous tourneys. So I'll tell you what's total bullshit. What's total bullshit is you telling me that if I advertised this tourney, I would see more players. We had one tournament where I spent $30 of my own money to print a laminated huge poster and post it on the gety door, and 2 smaller prints on the actual BBCS cabinet. If I recall correctly, I gained a total of 0 new players for that tourney. Bullshit. Being one of those people not worth playing, not once did I feel any hostility or anything of that sort from anyone here, infact the people here are some of the best people I have ever met. Worthy people come to meet a challege head on. All the respect to you, brother. I didn't mean to imply that the people at Lovegety are hostile, because they're not; they all seem like very nice people and none of them have ever acted in a way that would give me any other impression. But the fact is, they all know each other and I don't know a single one of them, and because the currently existing community is so tightly-knit and so bent on reinforcing the players that are already a part of it, it is very hard to become a part. The result of this is that you get players like myself who practice every day (I'm practicing right now) and put a lot into the game but have absolutely no real matchup experience outside of the rare times that they get to go to Lovegety. Hell, you've played me, I'm online all the damn time, the only reason I have almost 3000 ranked matches played is because I don't have a single friend who plays/wants to play BlazBlue at my level. Outside of training mode, online is all I can do on a regular basis. For the record, over the last five times I've gone to Lovegety I've gone from losing literally every game to taking at least one match on everyone I've played except Pui, and I was doing as well against him as anyone else. I've seen you at gety a few times since BBCS came out (November 2009). It has since been 13 months, and I haven't seen you say hi to anyone. It's really your choice if you want to get to know us. All you have to do is say "Hi, I'm Fugu". You're under the assumption that our "tight-knit community" has always been like this, which is blatantly wrong. Since BBCS came out, we took several people in and trained them - Roldy, Leo, Akuun, Poiyo, the list can go on. All they had to do is say hi and get involved in the community. Personally I only take interest in people who I see talent in, but other guys like Kousaka/Leo are one of the most social dudes you'll ever meet. For the record, over the last 5 times, you have not beaten everyone (minus pui) in at least one match. And any accomplishment you make now means moot, because it's been a month since we all dropped interest in BB. You also have a very limited perception. Do you think this community existed since the beginning of time? No. This community was built from nothing, by K2, DarkDragon, and myself. If you can't make it to another community, then make your own. Lucky for you though, there already is a small community in Sauga - G3. Of course you wouldn't ever have figured this out if you didn't socialize here. Gety is GADlike. It has the best BB/GG scene in Canada so why bother going anywhere else. Fuck opportunities Sapphire: I honestly understand why you feel that way. You've been burnt out from being pretty much the main gg tounry organizer for 90% of its lifetime and had to deal with alot of shit. But what I don't understand is how anyone else (these new guys for example) can feel the same way. If you're (general term, not picking on ppl) given a chance to expand this tight-knit community just by a little, then its always worth it. Theres gonna be alot haters and "scrubs" who say they "might" play and never do but the chance of getting even one person who wants to be serious would be worth dragging the equipment and making the trip down. I'm pretty sure going to gety in this harsh weather is just as tough right? Thanks man. I'm glad you can understand my frustration with the community, you've been with us all this time after all. But I honestly don't have that kind of passion anymore. Such an elitist way of thinking Nazir. I certainly understand that these people are not going to win or even reach top 5. The fact that they want to participate is the whole point of having a tournament. Doesn't matter if you don't see them again, atleast give them a chance to understand that themselves. I'm just curious, why did you decide to leave out the fact that we do provide them an opportunity. That opportunity comes every other month at gety during our bi-monthly tourneys. BUT OH WAIT, I NEVER SEE THEM THERE! You completely missed the point, Russell. You're talking as if TFNS was THE ONE chance these random scrubs will ever have in their lifetime to witness the extent of their abilities, when this is completely false. Bi-Monthly tourneys @ gety, get at us, scrubs. To whoever posted about not being friendly - It still feels like walking into a tight-knit community of people who only really take in people who are great at these games. But it could just be me. I must be a jerk or something =\ It would help if you didn't act like you're better than everyone else when you get beaten by one move (greed sever). You've also given a weird first impression on the forums. Fundamentals in BB? What the fuck are you smoking? The kind of fundamentals that teach you how to deal with people jumping all over you. Note: When I was playing on the cab, I tried tapping C, but it didn't come out. Tried harder, and it still wouldn't come out. Thats when i said **** it and mashed. So for what it's worth -- mashing works. Lol. Shoulda just asked us to get the boss to fix it. 7. Name one person who has joined our community due to a tournament at any T tourney/collective tourney with SF guys. I honestly can't name a single person (outside of yourself i suppose, but you're tekken really) that joined, although I can name some fools who's like "i can't even dash in this game, fuck this, im selling my game". Shoutouts to all our new members since T10 who started off with BB and some migrating to GG now, you know who you are, I don't need to name like 10 people lol. Everybodys improved a lot since they started coming out with us and making the effort every week. Funny thing is with all these new members, none of them were actually from SRK. Wu was through me n dota, Akuun was through Hermes, martine/julien was through AN lol, roldy and many others just met us through dloop. Shoutouts to people still thinking SRK is going to help us grow. QFT. If anyone can name ONE person, I'll give them $100. All the people that have joined was either through friends, through dloop, or at the arcade (orbit/gety). Tourneys collaborated with SRK have never ever brought new players to the mix. lol i come to gety and i still suck lol I have seen some improvement, not much though, probably not going to gety enough lol. The truth is, deep down, you don't have any desire to get better. We have 2 great robo-ky players here (Zeero and Jabir), I've not seen you ask for advice even once. But yeah, you're not going enough, I think I've only seen you 3 times total. Btw, gety does not magically make you better, we're not the magic pill. You need the desire, you need to get involved, you need to spend time on getting better.
Leo7 Posted December 21, 2010 Posted December 21, 2010 (edited) Fundamentals in BB? What the fuck are you smoking? I know it seems like, at least at low to mid level play, universal fighting game fundamentals don't seem very apparent in BB. In the end though, BB is a pretty simple game and if you're playing at a high level, fundamentals do play a role in the game. BB actually isn't a very match-up intensive game either aside from a few characters, especially when compared to GG, so it's entirely possible to just learn a few combos and coast on good fighting game sense. There have been cases where players with very little prior experience in BB just pick up a character and do extremely well in the game because they have good fundamentals (examples: Tokido at SCR; apparently Koichi's Litchi as well; or even Satoshi who's a different example in that he plays a VERY basic Bang and gets by on good defense, spacing and pressure). I mean, I know you and I bitch about the large stages, the power of jumping, tech rolls, IB and all these little escape mechanisms that give the opponent room to make mistakes, but if you're using a character who's not in the bottom 4 (seriously, let's ignore that excuse of a character Noel), at a high level these characters have the power to keep people honest and punish people from mashing or mindlessly jumping. Heck, you were using Bang, who easily has the best anti-mash/anti-jump pressure in the game. Mostly I just wanted to get the idea across that this community is actually pretty lacking in terms of character match-up experience. Only match-ups most people know inside out is Tager, Tager and Tager. Reason I wanted to mention this is because Fugu and I'm sure a few others have the wrong impression of the community here. Particularly this line: This isn't an issue of stepping "the fuck" up, this is an issue of the competition being so concentrated and so sparse at the same time that if you're not part of the narrow paradigm of known regulars, you're probably not going to be (regardless of your skill level) any time soon. I would say there are several players who have recently joined the "narrow paradigm" that are still nowhere near the level of the top players (me included). My point is that even if you join the narrow paradigm you're not going to suddenly become one of the top players. You're going to have to put significant work into the game regardless. It's going to take a lot of time. You don't gain solid fundamentals overnight. Even back in GG, there were some new players (I won't name names) who came during Accent Core, and it took at least a year before they could reach a high level. This is actually my beef with the Blazblue community, because a lot of people who play BB as their first competitive game (me included) are kind of lacking in fundamentals. Put work into the game and feel free to ask us for advice (believe it or not, we're willing to give out advice), examine your games and understand your flaws, and you'll get better naturally in offline play. For the record, over the last 5 times, you have not beaten everyone (minus pui) in at least one match. And any accomplishment you make now means moot, because it's been a month since we all dropped interest in BB. He's only been beating Wu. I don't mind this. Keep it up Fugu . Stay free Wu. unsanctifier Posted December 21, 2010 Posted December 21, 2010 So I take it I act like a douche in person. Wish someone told me, didn't know I was like that at gety O-o
Fugu Posted December 21, 2010 Posted December 21, 2010 (edited) EDIT: I'm removing the majority of this post because I'm not accomplishing anything good and if anyone really wants to know what I think, they can talk to me and I'd be glad to tell them. I'm not going to fight with a bunch of people I've never met about how I've never met them because that's like the dumbest thing I've ever heard. For the record, I said I took a match on everyone that I played against except for Pui. I lost to Pui like fourty times, then I lost to a Bang player, and then I lost to a Hakumen player a few times. I had beaten both the Bang player and the Hakumen player before they beat me, so I don't see what's wrong with that statement. Edited December 21, 2010 by Fugu
AlterGenesis Posted December 21, 2010 Posted December 21, 2010 (edited) see the problem is yall too fucking serious cause after all it is video games, you dont necessarily need an innate ultimate desire to be good you just gotta take opportunities when they come up to level up, not playing everyday wont necessarily stunt your game, im sure that if i picked up and play today, i still wouldn't be that terrible, because ive ingrained certain thought processes when ive had the opportunities to play so playing fgs is like riding a bike you learn certain things whenever you play and you drive those important things home to help you win, i mean sure, i haven't competed in a singles tournament with gety guys for like i duno 2 years now, but im relatively confident in my ability to compete with the "upper echelon" of players there are its not THAT hard to be good at a fighting game, it might be biased of me to say so cause ive been playing for a long time now, but if you look at the right things and just having fucking fun then there will be no problems everyone knows when they see me im going to be like "HEYYYY SUPPP" *brofist* and all that shit, no need to be all quiet and serious all the time, you're not going to get a dirty look or something for saying hi to someone you never met before, i mean yo just have fun do your thing, dont be stupid and learn how to think then you're bound at least not be disrespected by nazir what a scrub that guy is btw anyone from sauga should probably know that we exist and sometimes still play fgs, i mean im' pretty friendly, you can add me as friend online on any system or get at me for casuals or some shit. sorry i dont like psn though, so no bbcs on that system Edited December 21, 2010 by AlterGenesis
Leo7 Posted December 21, 2010 Posted December 21, 2010 (edited) Edit: alright just to give a bit of respect here, i'll remove my response. I'll keep the tl;dr though: TL;DR (stolen a bit from mizuumi) 1. Stay clean/hygienic 2. Stay social 3. Stay hungry 4. Stay sodium free yo this thread is so srs now. i liek it. wake-up fuujin ninjaaaaaaaaaa Edited December 21, 2010 by Leo7
mr.mortified Posted December 21, 2010 Posted December 21, 2010 I swear to become a fiend when CS2 comes in. No more work shifts on late friday nights for meeeeee~
Linear04 Posted December 21, 2010 Posted December 21, 2010 now im quadroople motivated to go there im gonna show up on thurs even if public transit is down. i will take a taxi and not give myself a christmas present this year if i have to because gety is gonna be my present. <3 u guys
Fugu Posted December 21, 2010 Posted December 21, 2010 That all seems perfectly reasonable to me. I didn't really intend to turn this into an overblown argument; it's just inaccurate to assume that the community is the size that it is because people are too uncommitted to become a part of it. Sometimes you think you're being more welcoming than you actually are.
Leo7 Posted December 21, 2010 Posted December 21, 2010 Just want to repeat that the Toronto BB community is actually one of the larger offline BB communities in North America. I don't think people understand how small the scenes are in other areas. In terms of the overall level or skill of the player base though, Toronto has some room to improve I guess (this is a different issue from the size of the player base).

In Edmonton we have about 10 people who play BB.
magus704 Posted December 21, 2010 Posted December 21, 2010 ^ Stupid Oilers and all their young talent. Why do the Leafs have to suck so much? Q_Q
X-Sapphire Posted December 21, 2010 Posted December 21, 2010 everyone knows when they see me im going to be like "HEYYYY SUPPP" *brofist* and all that shit, no need to be all quiet and serious all the time, you're not going to get a dirty look or something for saying hi to someone you never met before, i mean yo just have fun do your thing, dont be stupid and learn how to think then you're bound at least not be disrespected by nazir what a scrub that guy is LOL. If I could have even 3 Herberts at gety, our tournaments would be more hype than Evo. It's always mad hype when G3 reaches, I haven't seen you guys in forever... *brofist* That all seems perfectly reasonable to me. I didn't really intend to turn this into an overblown argument; it's just inaccurate to assume that the community is the size that it is because people are too uncommitted to become a part of it. Sometimes you think you're being more welcoming than you actually are. Likewise, it's inaccurate to use your own circumstance and compare it against my 10 years of growing this community. Everyone who's been here long enough agrees with my view. We could all go on and give plenty of examples, but I couldn't care less about convincing you. In my younger years in the community, I had to bus 3 hours each way just to play for 2 hours, then bus back home for another 3 hours. After repeating this for years, I became one of the best. People like you and me are rare. I'm going to formally host another gety tourney near the end of January for CS2 & GG. Let's see how many people are talk and who can back their shit up.
Leo7 Posted December 21, 2010 Posted December 21, 2010 Edmonton in the house. Didn't know there were people who lurked this thread.
Linear04 Posted December 21, 2010 Posted December 21, 2010 as long as the poliece dont lurk this thread
K2 Posted December 21, 2010 Posted December 21, 2010 o shit, i do rmb the days when nazir had to leave his house at 4pm and get to gety by 7 and had to leave at 11pm catching for the bus. i still rmb u had to give me money for the ride and i refused to take it and u said Nazir : "Do u want me to die with Sin??" K2 "if u give me money i will let u die now" lol ok, my turn for long post will be longer then nazir's i am sure it will kill every single one of u lol, j/k i love u all, don't want to harm u in anyway. but honestly, if u want to be part of the community, u just have to go to gety dinner , is that right? martine? akuun? ^^ julien still doesn't talk, roldy used to be a sheep, now he is best known for shit talking.
