Urichinan Posted September 22, 2010 Posted September 22, 2010 Discuss the Valkenhayn vs. Ragna matchup here.
Skye Posted December 8, 2010 Posted December 8, 2010 Hey guys, let's talk about this match up. I noticed that 2c will clash with ID if you space it right. Ragna's range will be an issue is he spaces his stuff right. My best remedy is to utilize his movement to throw him off, on neutral ground, Ragna has the advantage in my opinion. Discuss?
Edge Reaper Posted December 9, 2010 Posted December 9, 2010 Only played a few Ragna's in my short time of playing Valk, so I'm not much help but I would agree that Ragna has the advantage in this case. Ragna's pokes are just generally faster then Valk's (Don't ever think your 5B will beat his 5B). Though they have the same health, Ragna's healing ability has never been such a bitch to deal with. That said, Ragna is still a predictable character, where as Valk has some really stupidly easy mix-ups into big damage. At this point in time, people are still unaware that 236C is an overhead. Make use of that.

BlitzChrono Posted December 20, 2010 Posted December 20, 2010 I think its pretty easy as long as Ragna doesnt push u in the corner and uses his souleater and inferno divider like all the time. Gaunlet Hades and Hells Fang are no problem u just fly away in your wolf form and atack him from behind.
GenoWhirl Posted December 25, 2010 Posted December 25, 2010 (edited) If after Nacht Jager (236A) you notice the Ragna ID's on reaction to your wolf transforms, do 7D and cancel it (you know, with C), he will whiff and you can score a 5C CH into Nacht Rozen Edit: It seems you may be able to get a CH Schwarz Jagd (236B) and that's a world of pain, even without meter (like 5k) If he IBs (or hell, if it hits) and you KNOW he's gonna ID a delayed 4D will beat it Edited December 25, 2010 by GenoWhirl
OrionXElite Posted December 28, 2010 Posted December 28, 2010 Dude if Ragna gets predictable in blockstrings, fucking IB>6A his ass and get him out of your face. Neutral game is in Valk's favor due to his mobility. Keep Ragna from getting close and you'll be fine. And don't dodge his DP unless he has meter. Block it and kill him with a CH 2C. Its 6K and builds its own meter. This is most likely an even matchup due to Ragna having strong pressure but his damage can't keep up. Biggest problem is not leaving any obvious holes for Ragna to mash out DP. So keep the pressure solid on him and you'll be fine. Also Geno, how do you combo a CH 236B without meter???
BlitzChrono Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 most of the ragne players like it to do a gaunlet hades or hells fang to come in range for their (always the same) 5b set up . sometimes they do a throw and if u counter it they are screwed . just do a 236A than change in wolf form B,B 236B 214 B and than a C too ragna a single A move and a 236D at the end it does around 3.5k damage .
Guardian Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 just do a 236A than change in wolf form B,B 236B 214 B and than a C too ragna a single A move and a 236D at the end it does around 3.5k damage . 236A is a horrible move against ragna outside of combos. He can srk it on reaction, especially if you're using a telegraphed guard string. In this matchup, 5C is your best friend. It can beat his 90% of his pokes (including 5B) if spaced properly, but you have to be somewhat preemptive with it. IB~6A is not a good idea during Ragna pressure b/c he can easily throw/go low and crush 6A for big CH dmg. If they're doing a lot of overheads or doing really predictable pressure then that is definitely a viable option, but not against a ragna that really knows what they're doing. Your best bet out of Ragna pressure is to not let him get in in the first place. If he does, IB~backdash is your only worthwhile safe option. Off of CH 236B you can get a quick 5D, [w]j.A, land, 5D, 5B, 2C, etc.

You can 6A anything not a low off of Ragna's 2B. Get them into the habit of going into sleeper low blockstrings and use it to your advantage. If you have the meter, you can IB>Sturm Wolf through almost anything.
RokudaimeYami Posted March 20, 2011 Posted March 20, 2011 `Since Ragna's Carnage Scissors has a retarded hitbox (it was a retarded move in the first place) if you use his Storm Wolf straight after Carnage Scissors activates it cancels it, staggers Ragna for a few seconds so that the move hits.
NickExtreme1 Posted May 14, 2011 Posted May 14, 2011 (edited) Guard Point on Valkenhayn's 6A is amazing against Dead Spike and Carnage Scissors. Hitting Ragna with it up close eqauls a good damage followup. Edited May 14, 2011 by NickExtreme1
