Happy new year, MTNBB! May the Middle Tennessee Needs... community grow to be awesome and cool and let us do lots of awesome things! Cyner, bring lots of people! Don't you know Fizz and the rest of Runaway 7? ...Or am I thinking of a different Cyner?

Posted (edited)

I don't know them well... but I've met them before.

Most of the guys I smash with don't play BB except for Seif and VTS, I let IHSB play for a bit and he liked the game but he doesn't own an ecksbawks or have access to the game regularly.

Sooo... I think it's just me.

Edit: Maybe it's just me but this site really needs some separate regional sub forums. I'm just spoiled over at SWF.

It really, REALLY does. I don't understand why they haven't separated it into regions. Bring VTS and Seif, man! I already sent VTS a pm a while back, but he never responded. I'd love to see all of you guys again. Heck, you could even split gas. I know Fizz plays the game and maybe some more of Runaway 7 does. If you can get a hold of them and tell them about this, i'd love to see them all and play with them, too.

I knew you were my Cyner. <3

my opinion is go with Sanwa parts... Madcatz is doing a buy one get one free deal on MvC2 sticks right now too I believe

That looks very similar to my stick, however those are all Hori parts(which aren't bad) and i've switched out the buttons for my own. I've got Seimitsu buttons in my Hori, if you want my opinion. I like the click they make and their feel on taps. Sanwa's are a bit quieter and they feel different.

I need to remember to get a new balltop.

a 4 hour drive is pretty long but I'm considering attending this. I'd bring other players from atlanta with me as well.

^ Awesome.

By the looks of it, we might have many more people than any other BB event we've had in the past. Has anyone informed Tad (Noel player) about this?

you cant reach Tad... he's like the tooth fairy... he just comes whenever he wants and leaves quarters lying around

Yeah... I was more looking for a "good" or "not good" answer. I just need to know if it's gonna work well for a while.

Milln, you need to get in touch with whoever/someone who works for the arcade ASAP. I'm surprised no one from Game Galaxy posted here yet. I was talking with a guy who works there when Billy, Naimat, and a couple other guys were there to check out SSFIVAE, and from my understanding they only knew what to do regarding the staging room before they had all those arcade machines there. In fact, the website still shows $5 as the venue fee, so I'm really hoping we can still get the venue.

I was given the OK by Jason before when I asked him and I just now re-verified. The following is the text: "Website should be updated and that venue is yours that sat Yes that is taken care of u will get the spot". We'll be fine, guys.

Edit: www.gamegalaxyarcade.com has been updated to reflect the $5 entry fee for the tournament and the $10 venue fee.

@Cyner: it's good. It's very similar to the Hori I have. Recommended.

@Eshi: we'll take care of you! Ask around if you have a 4 hour drive, I'm sure you can find one of our lovely players to house you guys for a night.

I talked to the manager at gamestop and he was recommending the MvC2 arcade stick, or as a low cost alternative to the xbox controller, the fightpad for 360 (this thing: http://www.torontothumbs.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/03/fightpad.jpg)

opinions?

If you intend to use a stick in the future at all, get a stick as soon as possible so you can start understanding one and how they move and respond. Don't get used to a different type of controller such as the fightpad because that will only delay you further. Whatever you do, do not get one of these: http://img520.imageshack.us/img520/4669/img0126b.jpg They are trash and you'll need to replace the buttons within a day of use. Papstr knows this. I gave him one of my old ones. =D

I really recommend that Hori you picked out, dude. That one is, apparently, the "Special Edition" of my personal one. It'll serve you well and it'll last. If you want to wait, I can let you try mine out on the 22nd and see how it feels. I still have some of the stock Hori buttons on there that I didn't switch out for Seimitsu's.

The guy that was there then doesn't really help set up stuff I don't think. Jason is the go to guy

It's really up to you man, I would do what Milln advised and show up at the tourney and check out some sticks there and see what you feel is the least uncomfortable for you. (note I did not say "what you feel most comfortable with," because it's gonna be awkward as hell regardless)

I have a Madcatz TE stick that I can let you try out. It's full Sanwa, square gate, etc

But I would not advise getting a fightpad... I made the mistake of getting one before I bought my stick... sure it's a step up from a controller, but for me after I kept using it it was actually becoming more annoying to use, so I just made the jump to a stick. Like I could NOT dash for SHIT on that fightpad... like at ALL. Idk why, but I just never really got used to it. The buttons are great though, and rolling inputs are extremely easy... but if you're already looking at making this step, I say just dive in the deep end and get a stick and get used to it. You won't regret it when you're proficient with it.

If you don't feel you'll get the money's worth out of the stick though, I'd say the fightpad is at least twice as good as a 360 controller. Still not saying a whole lot though. :\

JUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUST IN CAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAASE. (don't get offended if you know this, already. It's like Inner Fire all over again)

I don't know how much knowledge about arcade sticks and cabinet parts you have, Cyner, but when we start throwing out names, it's the brand of the button or balltop or connections. Madcatz cuts a lot of corners and their products usually end up non-functional very quickly. Thus, we have to replace them and to do it, we use (most often) one of the "top" brands: Sanwa and Seimitsu. They're both fantastic and they last. One isn't necessarily better than the other, but Sanwa is more popular. The difference is the feel between the two brands that we use to replace parts. Seimitsus, IN GENERAL, are "harder" and provide louder clicks and taps. Sanwas are smoother and have more resistance on their switches, in my opinion.

Another brand, Hori, is also reputable. Their parts are decent and they'll last you until you feel like replacing them with something else. Papstr used four of my Hori buttons until he replaced his, too.

Additionally, juuuuuuuuuuuust in case you're not familiar. A "gate" is the shape the joystick's switches make. When you move the joystick, it clicks a switch and that sends the signal to move in that direction, obviously. For fighters, you want an octagon or a square and it's completely up to you and is completely preference. I prefer square.

To sum up, we all have different arcade sticks we carry around. I've got my Seimitsu-Hori, Papstr has his Seimitsu'd Madcatz Street Fighter. Grimstar's got his Sanwa'd Madcatz SFTournament Edition. Tad actually built one of his from scratch with translucent and glittery buttons if I remember correctly. We'll be more than happy to let you feel them out.

I just wanted to chime in on something regarding fightpads for Cyner (or anyone else considering a fightpad). Personally, I think those SF4 fightpads are garbage. The d-pad is supposed to be more responsive, but I couldn't tell a huge difference. In fact, some of the diagonals (9 and 3 mainly) wouldn't register at all unless I put 200 pounds of pressure on it. A few friends also had some of the same problems with them.

Like Milln said, don't try to learn a new fightpad/controller before learning a stick. It'll only slow you down.

Just to clarify, when you say you want us to "NOT come in here with composite cables on a flatscreen tv" does that mean you ONLY want 360s with composite cables, and/or we'll ONLY be playing on High-Def T.V.s? If that's the case, I won't be able to bring my 360- it's not HDMI-enabled. I wouldn't mind bringing my Hard Drive in case people wanted DLC colors, and/or we need another with Makoto/Valk, though. No matter what it is, I don't mind being at the arcade at around 10:30-11:00.

Something else I've been meaning to bring up and get some feedback on is recording devices. As ridiculous as it might sound, I have three capture cards at the moment- one Hauppauge HD PVR (USB, works with HDMI/component~), one Dazzle Plus HD (USB, composite), and one Firewire Dazzle (firewire, composite). If the majority of you guys want to record matches, be them for the tourney OR friendlies, I'd be more than happy to oblige. I should be able to bring two laptops (mine and my dad's) to record with the Hauppauge and the Dazzle HD if that's the case. However, I no longer have access to a firewire-enabled computer, so if you all want to record with that one I'll need a volunteer. If anyone's willing to offer their firewire-accessable computer (preferably a laptop) I'd DEFINITELY bring an external hard drive so you wouldn't have to worry about your space being filled up. Also, if it turns out we're only playing on H.D. T.V.s/component 360s (including for friendlies), the Dazzle Plus HD/Firewire Dazzle will be rendered useless, and I won't even bring them. That's another reason I want to know the position on that ASAP.

... and if you all DON'T want to record these, please let me know. I get the feeling I was pushing the recording thing last time, and I felt pretty bad afterwards when the finals had to be played on a shitty T.V. and I wasn't even sure people cared about it being recorded. I won't be offended or anything if the majority of you guys would rather let what happens at the arcade stay at the arcade. I just need some feedback, that's all. :3

Oh, and one more thing- I'll be voting for IHOP.

I prefer matches to be recorded (maybe I'm biased because I use a hype character). It seems like every time a match isn't recorded, something ridiculous/awesome happens.

Plus, it seems lame to have a tournament without semi-finals and finals being recorded. Just my opinion...

Dont bring composite cables with the intention of hooking them up to a flatscreen. It causes latency even if you can't necessarily feel it. You Can bring a CRT tv with composite cables, thats fine. I'm completely for and encouraging recording as many matches as possible. At the same time if someone is so insecure about being displayed that they don't want to be put on YouTube, then you should alert either me or Chandler and we'll deactivate it.

IHOP is the shiz.

I can agree that it feels like whenever we don't record a match, something insane goes on.
