Cyner Posted October 10, 2011 Posted October 10, 2011 Play Melee, it doesn't get changed ever. It's also a good game.
Milln Posted October 10, 2011 Author Posted October 10, 2011 I think you should play 3SO if you don't already, Billy. It's all the rage and we're going for a revival. And you need to come over when KOF comes out so you can teach me the fine arts of how to play efficiently. *thumbs up*
Grimstar Posted October 10, 2011 Posted October 10, 2011 (edited) I'd take slight nerfs and buffs over complete overhauls any day... But I agree, SF4 has nerfed people randomly, MvC3 is just trying to do everything instantly, and KoFXIII has always been broken since arcade release, I'll welcome a rebalancing for it, but it's been out a long time now, not like 3 months. I got SF3 the other day... but haven't done much on it yet. Edited October 10, 2011 by Grimstar
Jackie Chandler Posted October 10, 2011 Posted October 10, 2011 So what everybody's saying is, "I like Guilty Gear. We should run Guilty Gear."
LastStarSaviour Posted October 10, 2011 Posted October 10, 2011 Jackie we've been saying that from day one. About 8 months in and we're still at the same place with that game. Community make a decision already. Also, I actually forgot that I had the approval for the Get Exposed interview. This is what i'm thinking, I interview Milln nice and early (Got the questions ready. One of them will be lawlz when you read it) then imma head out to grab some sleep and do nothing. Milln, we may have to use your phone because i'm poor and we'll need a camera man (this slot goes to whoever shows up first). If you guys happen to get caught please be professional and what not. And that will call it a day for me...any questions?
Papstr Posted October 10, 2011 Posted October 10, 2011 I can't even recall the last time I saw LastStar actually play BB...
Doromac Posted October 10, 2011 Posted October 10, 2011 Tad got a shoutout in the power up podcast, lol.
LastStarSaviour Posted October 10, 2011 Posted October 10, 2011 (edited) Just got multiple eargasms from Relius vs Carl match-up theme. That shit is godlike!!! OMFG!!! CAN'T STOP LISTENING TO THIS DAMN SONG!!!! It's been three hours. Jesus this is fucking good. This song is passion, this song is soul, this song is a testimony of a boy who struggles, this song is the story of a puppeteer gone insane, this song is pain, this song is triumph, this song re-confirms the Continuum Shift damnit!!!! Seiki Posted October 11, 2011 Posted October 11, 2011 @Billy: Arcsys definitely knows what they are doing and you can see it in terms of the tier list and the overall competitive quality in the game. From CT to CS2 the gaps in-between the characters definitely shrunk. If you look at this year's SBO top 8 7 different characters qualified even a low tier char. (Bang) placed third. Not to mention tsubaki who isn't considered top tier won the whole thing. And if you look at the changes from CS2 to CS2 extend in terms of the system mechanics they didn't make any drastic changes and for the most part every character is mostly preserved from cs2 to cs2ex. Most characters just got additional tools and can do the same combos/half of the same combos/more combos since CS2. You can tell they are really comfortable with where the game is generally at right now since most of the changes are just minor tweaks. BB makes you have better reaction, makes you a more mobile player in almost any other fighting game, is a good foundation for getting into guilty gear, and perfect blocking helps with learning parry if you play 3s lol. @Astaroth: If you actually look at the patch notes for MK9 most of their "patches" deal with bug issues, networking, and some very light changes to characters in terms of complete bullshit like infinite blockstun issues but that's more of a bug than anything. The pattern of changes netherrealm is doing is the same as arcsys. over the course of these patches they have found where they feel they struck a good balance and are more focused on just tweaking it while preserving a large part of what they already created. I don't know any other fighting game with more diverse top 8 results consistently at every major than MK9. You can't get this kind of balance with a dev team that doesn't know what they are doing.
Jackie Chandler Posted October 11, 2011 Posted October 11, 2011 Thank GOD new themes are finally up. I've been waiting to listen to Relius's theme on constant loop, but it may be soon dethroned by the Carl vs. Relius theme. I can't say it better than Star, but it's excellent composition and great to listen to IMO.
LastStarSaviour Posted October 11, 2011 Posted October 11, 2011 You guys do realise every match had in Extend must be with Relius vs Carl theme?
Jackie Chandler Posted October 11, 2011 Posted October 11, 2011 As long as every other match is had with the Relius theme, Star.
Astaroth136 Posted October 11, 2011 Posted October 11, 2011 Also, I actually forgot that I had the approval for the Get Exposed interview. And that will call it a day for me...any questions? Wow, sounds like our "get exposed" video will be really shitty. Could we get any more lazy with this? Seriously. Star, if you don't want to mess with it, that's fine. Hand it off to someone else. I was thinking the video would not only feature Milln, but a few of the regulars too. That's how a few others videos were shot.

The results are diverse in tournaments because the game changes all the time. Remember the first major that featured MK9? There was a huge patch the day before the tournament. They, of course, stuck with old version for the players. I just talked to Jason about this very subject Saturday. He was saying that he hated the devs because he would go in and say "Um, I found this and it could be stupidly strong." Their response was either laughter or shrugs.

The tier list doesn't change dramatically from one patch to the next the gaps do. The main gameplay elements for each character is preserved so diversity has been there regardless of the changes. And actually every element the community complains in terms of character balancing netherrealm has responded to and fixed. kung lao low hat, vicinity blast infinite, kabal block infinite, johnny cage's nut punch, etc etc idk what jason is talking about but if it's any company that listens to players' feedback it's netherrealm.
Doromac Posted October 11, 2011 Posted October 11, 2011 The communities reaction to patches in mk lead to a lot of under development of characters and just lead to knee jerk reaction changes according to tier list, just like the recent patch that involved a Kung Lao nerf.
Papstr Posted October 11, 2011 Posted October 11, 2011 Reactions to songs, will edit in as I listen: Tsubaki vs Jin - started awesome until the lyrics. I got nothing against lyrics, but its.. well It's like its beating it into your head too much. Okay yea. they were childhood friends and now they are fighting! Let's make the lyrics say that! The tune itself can speak that, yknow. It reminds me of that stupid ass song from Sonic Adventure 2, the one that plays on the Pumpkin Hill stage? Yknow, where the lyrics are about being Knuckles at pumpkin hill? yea. this song is meh. hopefully theres a lyricless version out there. Clover vs Clover - Much as I find Carl dull, and still don't care for Relius, this song is pretty good. So chill and also got that feeling of Dad vs Son. Relius's theme- only had to listen to like 30 seconds (and cuz my dorm internet is SHIT and won't load the video) I'm in love already. Dere ya go. @Astaroth- Agreed. Laststar seemed so enthusiastic about this before, and now it seems like this whole thing is just gonna be blah. Why even bother if we won't put in effort? I'd rather we have no video at all than a poorly put together rushed...something or other.
Jackie Chandler Posted October 11, 2011 Posted October 11, 2011 Star, I don't want to be rude, but if you don't have the time/resources for what our Get Exposed requires, I'd like to take the responsibility off your hands. Don't get me wrong, I really appreciate you getting us the thumbs-up, preparing questions and stuff- it's easy to see you've been doing what you can- it's just that I have the equipment, the know-how, and (most importantly) the entire day to grab footage. I hope I'm not coming off the wrong way.
Alphakami Posted October 11, 2011 Posted October 11, 2011 Hrmm... LastStar: I ain't looking to bust balls, but since Steak and Shake you've had this chip on your shoulder man. You've been perma-salty about shit. It seems that you've been really worried about skill and wins. You are young and getting better and hungry, and I totally get that. Careful not to take it out on the group. Just sayin' I been getting a dickhead vibe from you lately, and I bring it up here out of love for you as a young talent and respected member of MTN, and for the love and future of our group. We don't need to get exposed until we are unified, and we are close, but not there yet. Doro: I'm closely tied to Kyle and Kajoq and their FG career's. Great guys, really. I hope MTN's players get to kick it and play serious games with all my other out of state friends. Ok, here is what I'm scheming for the winter. I wanna throw a weekend (Fri-Sun) event for all you fine fellows. Gaming house party weekend, tons of setups, designed with hospitality in mind. Basically what I did for the Guilty Gear scene years ago. I'm gonna try and line up Kyle and Kajoq, and other close to here friends to come down. Games likely to be played are Gear, Vampire, Blaz, 3SO, and maybe some MvC3. Early December weekend. Either the first or second (2nd or 9th). Think of it as a Dojo weekend. No tournament, just power leveling. I can't attend Season's Beatings. Sucks.
Jackie Chandler Posted October 11, 2011 Posted October 11, 2011 Damn, sorry to hear that Tad. I'm sure you were looking forward to it, but hey- at least you can direct all that hype towards October's MTN, and December's "Dojo Weekend." :D Speaking of which, I love the sound of it. It's really cool for you to offer to throw something so epic. Go ahead and put my name on the list, I'll definitely be attending. :] As for which weekend, I'd prefer the 9th since there may be a November MTN (with severe lack of Milln D: ). And unless the consensus changes because of said lack of Milln, it'll probably be on the last weekend of November and I KNOW my folks wouldn't let me be gone two weekends in a row like that.
Grimstar Posted October 11, 2011 Posted October 11, 2011 why the fuck does Relius' theme sound like a Nickelback song?
Jackie Chandler Posted October 11, 2011 Posted October 11, 2011 We can't be friends any more, Grimstar.
LastStarSaviour Posted October 11, 2011 Posted October 11, 2011 (edited) You guys do realise this Get Exposed deal can only be about 4 to 5 minutes. At least that's what I was told. Plus most of the ones I watched only had the TO being interviewed. If you guys want in that badly i'll see if we can get a time extension. But I repeat, they told me no greater than FIVE minutes. Also, if someone else wants to do it that badly i'll drop the position to you. I'm merely trying to follow the guidelines the way I perceived them. It doesn't have to be a beautiful HD masterpiece either. I trust you all have seen the quality the others were in. I even heard some were done "On their phones." Whether this is true or not is irrelevant. The whole thing is about giving people an idea about the scene, not show it off from head-to-toe (don't make it long, keep it simple and turn it off, no one wants to watch a documentary) *Rages*! Might as well mention this too. The reason it slipped my mind was because I had the interview already done and mapped out on paper. However, a few tests fogged my mind and an AP packet made me blank out for an enitire day. Couldn't even remember what a combo was after that @ Tad: Yeah, I realise this myself man. But the thing is we had all kinds of competition back in the day. Midnight, Eshi, Kyle. These were all people who were passionate about the game and were great. I've always wanted to test my metal against these guys and see where I stood. Those challenges are what drove me to get better (all that time spent in the lab studying was for that sole reason), I feel like I don't have that now and i've been going through withdrawals. I apologise to the nigs I offend, don't know why but it turned out that way. I'll try being more something in the future. For the most part i'll just start keeping myself at home. I'll wait a few months after Extend comes out and re-surface. Until then, peace. Keep having to add stuff, Gah, screw this. Edited October 11, 2011 by LastStarSaviour

Yeah, after looking at the guidelines, you're absolutely right. I apologize. It's supposed to be short, and it does only focus on the tournament holder. That's kind of weird though, considering you're talking about your community but only talking to one person. Seems counterproductive.
