I want to be hype for Extend, I really do. Especially since BB is my 2nd favorite fighting game. But it's pretty clear: nobody really gives a shit about it here in Tennessee. Or in general really. It's an awesome game, but when the competition is little to none, it's pointless to put time into it.

I disagree with this completely. If you enjoy a game, you should play it regardless of the size of the competition. Just think- if everyone simply played the games they like instead of the ones they feel everyone else is playing, there would be a larger and happier community for the former. Saying that you only want to put time into games that other people play makes you part of the problem.

Uh oh. Hostility! Lemme rephrase that a little cuz I kinda worded it bad n stuff. K so. Blazblue has existed for what, 3 yearsish? We've been playing it for, what, 3 yearsish? We've BEEN playing the game for a while, and nothing is growing. I like Blazblue, and hell in the end I'll probably pick up Extend and some point simply because I like the plot and characters.

And I don't JUST go after games that everybody plays. I'm simply saying that if a game has a large community, its a good driving factor that makes me WANT to put time into it.

EDIT to cover my ass: If this post comes across as hostile, its not. Sorry lol. I ain't mad or nothin'. Just debatin'. Debate is welcome! Debate good. hue

Too bad when you look at BB the problem isn't that it isn't growing (When in fact it still has pretty decent sized scenes and new people have been popping up in the U.S.). It's just that most of the people who play the game are either broke high-schoolers who can't travel or even-more-broke college students who are too busy to take time out. Once the players get time to grow up and settle into lives less hectic i'm sure numbers will increase. After all, BB is a hellava good game (In my opinion still the best fighter recently). So yeah, saying that "it isn't growing is a meh statement. And Papstr what Jackie said wasn't hostility, it was a just a comment on a generalised mind-set.

Addition: I do understand where you're coming from in terms of competition because I feel the same way. I do enjoy BB and I wishthere were more people who actually played it and really knew the game. Alas, i'm not going to find that anytime but that doesn't mean it should be dropped. Just means I need to stay faithful to my game and pray for bigger turnouts.

Ah, that makes more sense. Clarification FTW. Speaking of which, I probably sounded a lot harsher than I was trying to be. Mah bad.

What makes Blazblue different than most popular fighting games on the market (in terms of the amount of people that play it) is that it hasn't had any sort of "revival" to generate hype. There was 9 years between Third Strike and IV, 11 years between MvC2 and MvC3, 6 years between KoF XI and KoF XIII (nobody liked XII right? lololol), and 4 years between SCIV and SCV. The way I see it, part of what made those games as popular as they are now is that the long-term players meshed with the newbies to make a new, larger community. Revivals give an excuse for that kind of thing.

That said, I don't think games NEED that kind of thing to continue thriving and growing. Extend is a prime example, since it appeals to long time fans with balance changes, an additional character, new modes, etc.; and for those just entering the franchise, it offers the Story Mode in its entirety (CT to Extend), a Tutorial/Challenge Mode, and a low price tag. Sure, Blazblue's community hasn't exploded in size or anything, but I feel like Extend and BB3 are going to increase the size of the community in general quite a bit. And if you're still playing, you'll be around not only to experience that kind of growth, but to participate in it as well.

Also. On the topic of this whole revivals making games popular thing, I can't wait for that to happen with Guilty Gear.

I just find it irritating that Blazblue's next revision seems to get announced like 3 months after America gets X revision. Feels like I gotta relearn everything right when I finally have it learned (or don't in CS2's case lol). Yea i guess there was no hostility. Hard to really tell with text. We cool dog we cool. Yea I'll still be playing Blazblue when I get the chance, but I've got a weird situation if stuck at college with no internet, playing a game nobody plays. So I guess I'm basically the demographic that Star is referring to.

Also, believe me. I've played a few games that pretty much nobody plays cuz its awesome. There's a reason why me and Kain played Akatsuki Blitzkampf like all the time for about a year. (Hint its the best fighting game EVER)

I'll tell you all what the problem is. It's not broke students. It's not one game being better than the other game. It's simply the market becoming too overpopulated with fighting games. Think about it. SF4, MK9, BB, KoF, UMvC3, SC5, 3S:OE, Tekken, Virtua Fighter (lolwut) Skullgirls (soon), SFxT (soon), TxSF (in the future), and numerous loli fighters that I can't think of are being played worldwide. People are picking up one game after the next, without fully diving into them. On the other hand, those few who stick with particular games get bored and frustrated due to playing the same few players.

Until the fg market dies down a bit and stops pushing out tons of games, you'll continue to see dense or separated scenes. I mean, look at mid TN. We have TWO scenes that have just now began to cross over (although, we have a looooong way to go).

Lee spits the truth.

I'm Hype AS FUCK for Extend. I'm totally in love with what Valk has become, and I'm going to murder you bitches with him.

Also, play everything. Play what you like. Play a little of what you don't like. Chances are is that if you really love FG's, you'll be playing them for a decade or more. I"ve played literally, around 100,000 matches at this point. I don't regret the 2,000 matches of Tekken 2, or whatever it was. Just play, it'll make you better. Playing is probably always more fun that bitching about what you don't wanna play on forums anyway.

I can't really see multiple games being said reason but idk, maybe.

@Tad: Too bad you're not making it past Noel or me once Extend hits. Old wolves need to just move along and let the new generation sharpen their fangs. That's right, Extend will be here in a few hours, and a new pack of wolves are ready, hungry, and looking for prey. This is LastStar, and to all you bastards who don't understand what this means, A NEW BATTLE IS HERE!

OH YEAH?! WELL I'M GONNA SHOW BOTH OF YOU THE POWER OF MUGEN.

Or get bodied because I'm too busy playing other games... But there's probably about a 30% chance of showing off how sexy Mugen is, so that's good enough for me.
