LuminAbyss Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 In any case, I'm thinking of just selling my KoF. OH SHIT WHAT ARE YOU DOING NIGGA
Volpe-de-Glacio Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 (edited) I dunno. I love how the combos feel and fights with certain players are fun as hell. But then there are people who play like spastic crackheads and win because they're utterly unpredictable, plus the constant onslaught of the same few safe/easy to hit confirm characters repeatedly. I know some of it is about getting used to match ups, but when I'm losing because ground approaches result in getting locked down through projectiles/rolls and air approaches are stuffed because every character on my opponent's team has instant aerial blowbacks it gets really frustrating. I throw myself at them again and again, trying every different angle I can think of, but in the end it feels like unless I play a certain team I'm not going to be viable. I'm not giving up just yet, but it feels like every time I get better I spot more retardation. Edited February 10, 2012 by Volpe-de-Glacio

I can coach you through all those points you made when I get home. @Jackie: people don't find our vids by going to our channel and clicking. They find them by doing a search for the tags we put or through links. Either way, even if it's uploaded and gets pushed all the way to the bottom doesn't mean it won't get any views. The first video I ever put on YouTube still has the most views out of maybe all my other vids combined because it was interesting and I tagged it properly. Thirdly, we can just manually move it to the top anyway Edited February 11, 2012 by Milln
Seiki Posted February 11, 2012 Posted February 11, 2012 (edited) Volpe, where do i fall under in players you face? the fun as hell players or the spastic crackheads? just curious. CAUSE IM SALTY AS FUCK! Also, Volpe I had the same issues as you until i realized that sometimes doing nothing is doing smoething. Sometimes you shouldn't press any buttons at all and just move and whiff punish with one hits. If you focus less on setting up a combo and focusing mainly on getting more hits in on the guy than he/she is getting on you you'll be surprised how many more wins you'll get. Patience is KEY!! Accept what you HAVE to do in each situation regardless of what you WANT to do. That's what the lab is for. Test other character's shit against your chars it will make every situation less random and more knowledgeable. So that spastic crackhead becomes a predictable fool. Edited February 11, 2012 by Seiki
Top_Cat Posted February 11, 2012 Posted February 11, 2012 Does SCV look like it's going to be really popular? Not sure if i wanna bother learning it in addition to kof if it's not DX
Seiki Posted February 11, 2012 Posted February 11, 2012 Uhm a good number of people in the bb community is playing it or have the intention of picking it up. Star, chandler, me, milln, astaroth, volpe, etc. etc.
Papstr Posted February 11, 2012 Posted February 11, 2012 I bought sc5 too. Haven't put TOO much time into it, but so far, it's kinda enjoyable.
Grimstar Posted February 11, 2012 Posted February 11, 2012 > Blazblue combo video > Good music Choose one.
Volpe-de-Glacio Posted February 11, 2012 Posted February 11, 2012 That's my problem with KoF. Sitting and doing nothing with Leona will get me killed, she's got terrible defense and is meant to constantly pressure the opponent. If I were Ash or Kula or K' or something I could sit back and punish people for free. With Leona it's a constant rush-down, pressure, and guessing game. It just seems to me that for a lot of other characters everything comes easier. Say I'm rushing Andy on his wake up. I can strike arch and punish his low block, low jab and get a combo for punishing his high block, bait his wake up dp, or pursue him when he rolls away. If I guess a single thing wrong I typically get punished with a combo or throw. Say Andy decides to wake up with a dp. He gets to punish my mistake for free, but if he's wrong then he's entirely safe. The only option I have is to throw him, which he can easily tech because he knows that's the only option the opponent really has. Say Andy is across the screen and locking me down with projectiles. Roll through? That's a grab and/or combo. Jump or hop over it? That's a free instant aerial blowback that potentially puts me in the corner. The only real option I have for getting in on him is -spending meter-. Then once I get in on him it's back to the guessing game. Same thing with Terry, albeit with a less frustrating guessing game. Say I'm fighting Clark. If I hop in on him he typically has the option to either aerial throw me or instantly blowback, which seems to have priority over everything Leona does (who is typically considered the air-to-air queen, from what I've read) If he gets me in the corner, what the hell am I supposed to do? Punish him with lows? Too bad his grab - in which his arms completely miss me when I'm sweeping, btw - is invincible and punishes any attempt. Jump out? Too bad a good Clark seems to have godlike mind reading skills and knows exactly what I'm about to do, so he's ready to aerial throw me back to the ground. Roll? Too bad his throw connects even if you're behind him and /even if the roll animation is complete/. I saw some info on Clark, and apparently you're supposed to confirm that he's about to command grab by jabbing with him and then jumping or backdashing and punishing it. Too bad I tried that in the lab and I realized the only reason the person in the video could even do that was because he was using Kula and had lightning fast normals at his disposal. That's another thing. The button configuration is limited, so if I want to test something out in the lab I have to get rid of two of my buttons in order to utilize the playback feature. On top of these issues, there's just a lot of hitbox shenanigans and random grievances that don't instantly come to mind. Why the unholy fuck does K's high flame kick have priority over a -sweep-? You would think with one leg overextended in the air then you would be extremely vulnerable to lows. Too bad he's just K'. All in all, it feels like I have to play characters that are 'viable' for competitive play instead of the ones I like. This is why I like other FIGHTING GAMES and not KoF so far. Don't know why you'd make that assumption. I guess it's just my fault for falling for the hype of "tier lists are irrelevant" and "combos don't matter" when getting into KoF. Like I said, I'm not giving up yet. I'm still going to work on my match ups and practice. It's just with every improvement to my game I make, I realize that no amount of skill seems to make up for character shenanigans. I guess I'm just spoiled from playing fighters that feel a lot more balanced. As for Naimat, you're fun to fight. The spastic players are few and far between, but there's a breed of mashers out there with an uncanny intuition. As soon as I go to punish their random insanity with something they seem to lock on to me and throw out the perfect move to deal with it.

LuminAbyss Posted February 12, 2012 Posted February 12, 2012 Nah nigga, you pushed C That's right Fuck yo' GBC THIS IS N64 ERA NIGGA
Seiki Posted February 12, 2012 Posted February 12, 2012 Well all of your reasons Volpe is partly why Leona is bottom tier. You are going to expect having those frustrations playing what some top players consider the worst character in the game. Plus, I think it just takes dedication and time focusing on only one team to become better.
Jackie Chandler Posted February 12, 2012 Posted February 12, 2012 Hey Milln, what are your rules for Soul Calibur V gonna be? I'm mainly wondering if Algol/CAC are going to be allowed.
Astaroth136 Posted February 12, 2012 Posted February 12, 2012 Shoutouts to Tad for showing up today at GG. Good seeing you and chatting with you, man. For those not there, I lost my very first Marvel matches, went all the way through losers brackets to GF against the dude that beat me, and then proceeded to go 6-0 against him. LOL Marvel. SC5 had a whopping 5 entrants, so we did Round Robin. I won that 3-0 across the board. Games paying for themselves? Yes plz.
Astaroth136 Posted February 12, 2012 Posted February 12, 2012 (edited) Hey Milln, what are your rules for Soul Calibur V gonna be? I'm mainly wondering if Algol/CAC are going to be allowed. Nothing's wrong with Algol. CaC's won't be used in tournaments. Random stages (loser can choose to switch stages iirc). No Devil Jin style characters. Also, I wasn't trying to be a dick and swoop in on Milln's turf. I was just stating what I know from SC4 and today's SC5 tournament. Milln can make the rules whatever he wants. Edited February 12, 2012 by Astaroth136
Jackie Chandler Posted February 12, 2012 Posted February 12, 2012 Lol, nice Astaroth. Will there be videos surfacing for either of those? I'm particularly interested in seeing some top-tier SCV play from you. As for the rules, thanks for clarifying. I'm a little surprised to hear that's the case. A couple people I've talked to said they thought Algol would be banned because he "was in SCIV," and except for an exploit that completely covers up CaC's with accessories (not sure on the details of that), I don't know how they'd be that different than actual characters. Though thinking about it now, it might slow down tournaments if you have to worry about people porting over their custom characters via flash drives or whatever (assuming that's even possible).
Mr.Pickle Posted February 12, 2012 Posted February 12, 2012 I just bought SCV, its looking pretty crazy, but I'm still not sure on if I'm going to take it seriously or not.
Papstr Posted February 12, 2012 Posted February 12, 2012 For the longest time I thought Jackie'd only uploaded two KOF videos. Then I looked closely and saw two more. Ha! To reiterate, the video labeled "??? vs ???" is apparently Sarah vs Andrew, based on Negro Justice's commentary in the vid. Just in case you didn't notice. I hate watching myself play. I see all the stupid shit I do and go "why did you do that?!??!" Accursed tournament nerves. Usually I'm not so nervous that I flub combos. lol. And SC5 is great fun. It's weird as hell cuz I'm not used to 3d fighting, but cool. Diggin Patroklos and Yoshimitsu. Patroklos's voice actor voiced Yosuke in Persona 4, which is very weird for me. I keep expecting Pat to shout "Persona!" and shoot garu at someone. ~_~
