LuminAbyss Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 Most CVs are usually optimized stuff. But yo, when those have all been done, what's the fun in making more of them? TIME TO ABUSE SYSTEM MECHANICS
Klein Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 It's a combo video. Nothing about it is realistic. Sorry for assuming a bnb off a grab or 2b is practical or realistic, my bad.
Papstr Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 Loving Skullgirls alot so far. Dat Parasoul. Also Klein, Parasoul is a charge character if you wanna hold downback with her :3
Milln Posted April 12, 2012 Author Posted April 12, 2012 Loving Skullgirls alot so far. Dat Parasoul. Also Klein, Parasoul is a charge character if you wanna hold downback with her :3 She also seems to be able to zone very effectively. NAPALM SHOT. Also I am EFFING UPSET. Jackie, Papstr, or Naimat, or Astaroth. Text me ASAP I mean ASAP.
Volpe-de-Glacio Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 (edited) Only crazy, out-there combos are impractical, and usually they're only impractical because they're wasteful. Combo vids are extremely useful, and a lot of people just want to contribute to the community. Like Jackie said, you can learn all sorts of set ups and resets from them. All it takes is a hit confirm, and anything in a vid is up for grabs. Don't really see how that's not realistic. Edited April 13, 2012 by Volpe-de-Glacio

So to answer my own question in rhetoric, based on you guys' responses, yes I'm the only one that thinks combo videos are awful. I do enjoy them from an entertainment perspective, sometimes.
Volpe-de-Glacio Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 (edited) Huh? Not really, I'm still not seeing it. . . For every Jackie/Lumin type vid I've seen, there were 10 more that were informative, pertinent, and practical. If you only enjoy them for amusement, you're missing the point entirely. People who post typical combo videos aren't doing so for 'cred' as entertainers. Edited April 12, 2012 by Volpe-de-Glacio
LuminAbyss Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 Combo videos to me are all about entertainment. We leave the useful stuff to tutorials and actual matches.
Tophatmoffet Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 Always up for a match of skullgirls. Feel free to add me, GT is over there.
Milln Posted April 13, 2012 Author Posted April 13, 2012 Yo, Vocal, did you wanna borrow my Star Ocean The Second Story? @Volpe: I feel you, man, but this isn't something I intend to continue to talk about. You think combo videos are informative. I think they aren't. For the record, I was never talking about 'tutorial style' videos, just in case we weren't even talking about the same thing. This is a difference of likes/dislikes and this is okay. @Papstr'd Core: Tell me the different legs don't look like I'm forever in a squat position trying to walk without waddling. I can't get over that. New AC is a tad too... Uhh.. Realistic for me, hahaha
LastStarSaviour Posted April 13, 2012 Posted April 13, 2012 I was enjoying SkullGirls, that was, until I actually fought the other characters. The game feels extremely mashy. It's a shame since i'm really enjoying Valentine but whatever. Dive into a game, give it a few days, then we keep it moving onto the next. Anyways, been trying out Liz for a while now and I have to say that i'm enjoying her a lot. Remember how I said I wanted to move to a more poke and punish type character, Naimat? She's fitting what I wanted perfectly. Saw the combo video argument. Anyone who thinks combo videos are pointless are...wow, stay free. Any combo that can get above 2/4 life within a reasonable amount of meter is definitely worth it. If you see what damage your character can deal as opposed to what you're doing, then it shows you need to up your execution. They only become irrelevant if you lack the execution to a point where they can't be performed by you, yourself. So yeah...
Milln Posted April 13, 2012 Author Posted April 13, 2012 Oh my goodness. this is my last word on combo videos: you guys completely misunderstood and continue to misunderstand my comment. @LastLizSavior: I like her, too. I asked another Elisabeth player his very general thoughts, since I had interest in using her as a backup for matchups I find difficult on other chars and I'll share what they said: "shes just way harder than most other characters and has a hard time getting in and lacks tools. Not a bad character at all just too hard not enough return. She's fine if you wanna work hard with her. " Personally I don't think she's that hard. Maybe I just don't see her problems yet, but she's got a command grab combinable anywhere from EX, great projectile stopper/gtfaway with her qcf+p, and she does like 342 midscreen from one super meter. Hot. Oh and she flashes light everywhere.
Jackie Chandler Posted April 13, 2012 Posted April 13, 2012 Does that mean I can post another video now~?
LastStarSaviour Posted April 13, 2012 Posted April 13, 2012 I agree with you Milln. I've been practicing almost every chance I get with her and I honestly can't see a problem with her. That command grab is god status, her mid-screen damage is good, and overall, I love the shit out of her! I can't really see where her problems are but I could see how getting in on people with her is a major thing. Though, I have no problems with this at all. After a lot of labbing I think I know the team i'm ready to start testing match-ups and start playing with. Billy Kane/Elizabeth (Athena if I have to deal with certain characters)/EX Kyo or Mr. Karate (I'm really struggling on what to do in deciding which of these two I want to use). Billy Kane has the pokes, meter gain, and corner lock-down that I want in my starting characters. I really want to press this time around making my opponent respect my pressure as opposed to just mashing out because it looks good at the time. I want Elisabeth just because I want a character who gets high reward off of baiting and properly punishing people for their mistakes (and or mashing, running, or other bs). Then, Ex Kyo or Mr. Karater to finish the job. Hm, i'll finish my lab-work this weekend and have a clear cut idea of who I want to move forward with. What do you think?
LastStarSaviour Posted April 13, 2012 Posted April 13, 2012 (edited) Does that mean I can post another video now~? Nice, how does the combo system feel to you Jackie? It's been a little too simple for me but i'm trying to get myself to accept such things out of Marvel-type games. Doing more lab-work with Valentine when I get a chance this weekend. Edited April 13, 2012 by LastStarSaviour
Jackie Chandler Posted April 13, 2012 Posted April 13, 2012 I really like the combo system in this game. No retardedly hard links like in Street Fighter, but not as simple as A -> B -> C -> D like in Marvel. OTGs make sense and aren't linked to certain moves, but rather how fast you can hit your opponent again once they hit the ground. And as much as I like offensive characters/fighting games, if I'm right in my predictions, Skullgirls is going to compliment aggressive playing styles EXTREMELY well. Resets seem easy and theoretically gimmicky. I was messing around earlier and found that ending the combo in that most recent video with sHK -> Jump -> jLP -> Air Dash -> Air Grab (instead of sHP -> Rekkas -> Ground Super) works as a reset, and probably isn't something you'd expect and be able to tech out of at this point. That said, it would be in your best interest to practice teching grabs in this game. Setting up stuff like that instead of optimizing damage seems more valuable in regards to the combo system for me.
Vocal Sabre Posted April 13, 2012 Posted April 13, 2012 Yo, Vocal, did you wanna borrow my Star Ocean The Second Story? If it wouldn't be too much trouble, yes. @Jackie : I enjoy your Ms.Fortune combo videos. I'm seeing bits a pieces of combos I myself worked on. Of course, I wanna make up my own combos, but looking at what you're doing for reference is fine too.
Milln Posted April 13, 2012 Author Posted April 13, 2012 (edited) Jackie wtf, your avatar has glitched to being everywhere on my phone in Dustloop. Stop hacking. @Vocal: sure thing man. Edit: I'm on my phone do I don't have the patience to figure out how to embed it properly, so just click the link. http://m281.photobucket.com/albumview/albums/Shadowlawl/Snapbucket/51A583E3.jpg.html?o=0 Edited April 13, 2012 by Milln

Jackie Chandler Posted April 13, 2012 Posted April 13, 2012 Played a Ranked Match today. Clashed Inferno Divider with some dude for 16 seconds straight. Felt good man.
Volpe-de-Glacio Posted April 14, 2012 Posted April 14, 2012 The Skullgirls story. . . What in the unholy fuck.
LastStarSaviour Posted April 14, 2012 Posted April 14, 2012 MASHED!!!! Inferno Divider with some dude for 16 seconds straight. Felt good man. Fixed
Tophatmoffet Posted April 14, 2012 Posted April 14, 2012 The Skullgirls story. . . What in the unholy fuck. Mike has said it's temporary, will be replaced or added upon eventually. Most likely the latter. Even the skull heart alludes to this every time someone kills it. Miss Fortune's story practically literally sets itself up to be fixed. I personally hope that they don't have everyone going after the skull heart, as it doesn't really make sense for some. Still, I found the story quite enjoyable.
Volpe-de-Glacio Posted April 14, 2012 Posted April 14, 2012 I was more referring to Double's ending. That's some lovecraftian shit right there. And holy fuck, Undernight. Gotta main Seth and sub Yuzu.
Vocal Sabre Posted April 14, 2012 Posted April 14, 2012 @Vocal: sure thing man. How we gonna arrange the drop off? I'm off on Sunday. Oh we can wait until the next Tournament. I'm still working on beating Persona 3 again, so I wouldn't really be a able to pick it up.
