Jackie Chandler Posted April 16, 2012 Posted April 16, 2012 This is completely off topic, but talking with Naimat about it got me curious- how many of you ever played Megaman Battle Network for the GBA? I don't think I've clocked as much time into Blazblue as I have that series. Just curious.
Papstr Posted April 16, 2012 Posted April 16, 2012 This is completely off topic but Battle Network sucks. Also I need to ask you something about this weekend later Jackie. Don't make plans.
Klein Posted April 16, 2012 Posted April 16, 2012 So, Skullgirls has fully caught my attention. Unlike SFxT, I can really see myself getting into it. Hype.
Jackie Chandler Posted April 16, 2012 Posted April 16, 2012 This is completely off topic but Battle Network sucks. Also I need to ask you something about this weekend later Jackie. Don't make plans. For one thing, WRONG. >:/ And for another thing, I kind of already have plans. This'll be the only weekend our LP group can meet in April, so we gotta get shit done. Sorry Paps. :[
Tophatmoffet Posted April 16, 2012 Posted April 16, 2012 This is completely off topic but Battle Network sucks. I know way too many people that like it to agree with you. I haven't played it for better or for worse.
Volpe-de-Glacio Posted April 17, 2012 Posted April 17, 2012 I played the SHIT out of Battle Network. Oddly, the only things that come to mind when I remember it are the tetris-y upgrades and the character watching the elephant fling its own shit at the zoo.
Seiki Posted April 17, 2012 Posted April 17, 2012 In battle network, I loved the "glitches" you could do with the navicust. You could put attack speed and guard on the scan line and your buster became a mettaur shield. Lol there were some pretty wonky ones in the series. I remember one was in 4 where your buster shot out a flower like a clown gun. Another one where your buster shot out like rapid fired fully charged buster shots but jammed a lot. After Powerup reflection: So you guys after Powerup I felt kinda eh about playing BB with the number of turnouts, it being a side tourney. When the reason I play fighting games is to play other people and there aren't that many people playing my effort doesn't feel worth it. I only play it because there are some of you who do. I was wondering though are you guys losing interest in BB, for whatever reason?
Milln Posted April 17, 2012 Author Posted April 17, 2012 (edited) To throw my hat in the discussion, everyone knows i've already stopped playing BlazBlue and am heavy into KOF13. I'm very serious about KOF13. I want to be a strong player. And I will get there and actually do things. I'll bring anyone who wants to come along for the ride. I really enjoy everyone that's involved in KOF13, especially after having had 1-to-1 talks with Reynald and TheAnswer and seeing how chill they are and realizing that they just want to grow the game. Everything else I don't have any interest in, because I know I don't have the time to be muck about in anything else. Not even Skrillexgirls. I'm betting that many of us MTNG Folk would say that they still are interested and want to play BlazBlue, but then it's a determination of whether they're lying to themselves, or if they really do want to play. If so, how far will they take it? Also, I want as many people who come to this thread to reply to Naimat's question as possible. I really want to hear you guys' input on this as well. LastStarSaviour Posted April 17, 2012 Posted April 17, 2012 (edited) It's disheartening seeing as like Naimat I have put quite a bit of time into the game for the sole purpose of playing at a high level and fighting other high-level players also (It's a bit weird to explain these feelings). However, the current decline of the game, plus the character of a lot of the BB community thoroughly disgusts me to a point that I could honestly care less about whether or not BB dies. Don't get me wrong, I would like to see BB do very well and for the community to become a much more open and productive place. But the fact of the matter is, that isn't going to happen anytime soon and by the time it does happen BB will already have been dead. Unfortunately, i'm not the type of captain who goes down with his ship and wait to see this happen. I don't see any of our desire to play as a lie, but rather just a cry that's falling on deaf ears. Especially when there are two games (Persona 4 Ultimate and Under-Night In-Birth) that I can see myself putting time and effort into becoming a respectable player. Even if all the time I spent playing BB goes to waste, I don't mind any of it. Since all of those times i've laughed, raged, felt pissed at myself as a player, and felt content with myself as a player. I'm a young wolf willing to tackle these new games with a new mind-set, heart, and a hunger for competition. Leave the past that is BB behind, and look forward to enjoying new games and new experiences is the way i'm looking at this anyways. Whoops, it seems i've rambled on longer than expected. Anyways, time to venture into the uncharted new worlds that are P4U and UNIB. If anyone needs me when they release, i'll be there, ready to claim my limitless future. That's my LastStar lease on things. Edited April 17, 2012 by LastStarSaviour

Volpe-de-Glacio Posted April 17, 2012 Posted April 17, 2012 (edited) My interest in BB is dwarfed by my hype for P4U and UNiB. Elizabeth seems tailor-made for me and I feel like the game has the potential to explode, and that I'll finally be able to become a solid player. I still enjoy competing and improving in BB, but honestly Haku-men is just starting to feel weird when I see all these other characters who fit my playstyle better. Skullgirls just seems like it'll be dumb fun to pass the time til I can get my hands on Seth and Elizabeth. It's also helping me level up, but at the same time I can't really take it seriously. I'll probably pick up KoF again, since Vocal's getting a copy. Dunno how serious I'll be about it, though. Edited April 17, 2012 by Volpe-de-Glacio
Milln Posted April 17, 2012 Author Posted April 17, 2012 I'll post for Midnight. He's playing League of Legends in a dark room with his pants off. His mom Venom Strikes him dinner every now and then. We might as well call him MidnightGG. AND I AM THOROUGHLY DISAPPOINTED IN HIM. Sucker comes back from Knoxville, eats all my chips at New Years, says how glad he is to be back, then doesn't talk to us or come out and play games? HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM

I never really had a TRUE interest in Blazblue, but I'm more excited about P4U, KOF, and UNIB then anything else. Skullgirls is really to tide me over till P4U, and everything else, except KOF, is kinda falling into the void for me.

HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM Please tell me he hasn't become one of those types who's decided to throw their lives away to become a competitive LoL player. Milln, this is serious. I'm picking you up this Saturday and we're driving down to Midnight's for an intervention. We have to stop him before he makes the biggest mistake of his life.
Jackie Chandler Posted April 17, 2012 Posted April 17, 2012 It makes me really sad to hear how little cumulative interest there is in Blazblue nowadays. I feel like I'm finally starting to understand the more refined aspects of the game and I'm still constantly trying to improve, but I don't want to feel like I perform up to my own standards because nobody else gives an eff any more. That said, I've said it before and I'll say it again- I'll play Blazblue until the day it *really* dies. I'm still very interested in it, and I think everyone should at least wait until BB3 comes out before making a decision on dropping the game or not. Extend was just meant to whet the community's appetite before the conclusion, after all. Now, as for interest in other games, I'm hype for a lot of the new ones coming out as well. Under Night looks to be Melty Blood HD, and P4A is understandably reminiscent of BB, so I'm obviously interested in both of them. I'm not gonna lie though- I'm worried about both of their popularity in the states. Very few people know what Melty Blood is, and I can't really see Under Night being a surprise and vastly successful hit. And Persona 4 Arena will attract Arc fans and Persona fans alike, but when the former naturally mop the floor with the latter in the beginning, its scene could die relatively quickly. So even though they both look to be very fun games, if you're like Naimat and want to play games for heavy competition, there might not a thriving crowd for either. I'll give both their fair chance, though. If you're looking to get into something solid you can find other people playing, I'd recommend getting into Skullgirls or KoF (for those who don't have them already). Skullgirls is truly a bargain for what a great fighting game it is, and KoF... Well, I don't think I need to convince anybody to give KoF a shot, or to continue playing it.
Papstr Posted April 17, 2012 Posted April 17, 2012 Alright. Let's talk. Question answering time. First things first, Blazblue: To be frank, Blazblue is like an abusive husband to me. I want to love it, but I just find it horrifically dull. It also seems to get way too many reiterations way too quickly, which kills interest for me and for other people. On a personal level, Ragna is the only character I like in BB, but I find him dull as fuck. I wish Arcsys gave him more tools to play with. I'm aware hes considered strong, but I'd rather he be strong for having fun stuff as opposed to well he kicks you really hard. I feel like with each "new" Blaz I'm doing the same old shit. On KOF and Skullgirls: I like both alot, and try to put time in. Being in college I'm quite busy, and typically when I'm done with classes I sit down at my desk and play League of Legends or Dota2 with some friends. I can and do bust out the Xbox for some KOF/SG practice every now and then. I really do like KOF, and I like Skullgirls too. I enjoy fighting games and play them alot for fun. But golly there's so many of them out there that I wanna play its hard for me to really jump into one in depth. I thought KOF would be the absolute perfect game for me, but it didn't 100% click. I do still love the game and will keep playing it. Skullgirls so far is a blast, and I might get serious into that. Maybe come summertime I can find myself delving into the games indepth. Oh right and I gotta juggle Armored Core 5 with all of this shiz too lol. Now before Y'all say "well shit you've played alot of LOL/DOTA so stfu you have time for FGs" Well, my internet at college is total shit. I can't even find matches when I search in Skullgirls, and sometimes people are too busy to plan a meet up (jackie eyes on you) While with LOL/DOTA I can get on my computer and jump right into a game to play people, and I still feel like I'm improving. TLDR: KOF and SG are funsies. Armored Core is left out in the cold right now, poor thing, and LOL/DOTA are pretty much my means of entertainment. Hopefully summer can give me more time for balancing all these games. Oh and P4U is coming out soon too. Fuck. Damn I wrote a lot.
Seiki Posted April 17, 2012 Posted April 17, 2012 Here is my next question, Which of you are willing to start playing Guilty Gear seriously right now? and can you play the PS2 version of GG on a PS3?
Jackie Chandler Posted April 17, 2012 Posted April 17, 2012 Here is my next question, Which of you are willing to start playing Guilty Gear seriously right now? and can you play the PS2 version of GG on a PS3? Me. And you can play the PS2 version of Guilty Gear on PS3 if it's one of the old phat 80/40 GB models.
Klein Posted April 17, 2012 Posted April 17, 2012 Here is my next question, Which of you are willing to start playing Guilty Gear seriously right now? and can you play the PS2 version of GG on a PS3? I'm 100% willing to play GG seriously, but as of now I'm just playing on an emulator or a set up from Tad. I've lost my love for BB since CS2 came out and Hakumen didn't feel as enjoyable, and could possibly get back into it with CSE, but it's looking unlikely. Skullgirls as of now is incredibly fun, and I may get seriously into it. Not really interested in P4A or UNIB. Also, LoL is legit. And Middy's a cool cat for playing it. And no matter what game it is, if you love it, play it. And set up casuals any time you can.
Tophatmoffet Posted April 17, 2012 Posted April 17, 2012 (edited) Skullgirls just seems like it'll be dumb fun to pass the time Oi oi, some people have been kinda looking forward to this game for some time, and though it has released missing some features, it will only continue to improve. As more characters, replay functionality, and online lobbies are added, it will become an all-around better game, and continue to make french bread look like a bunch of horrible parents. ESPECIALLY if it gets a Japanese voice pack/japanese port. Also BALANCE CHANGES, something so rare yet so easy to do. At least as "easy" as it is to balance a fighting game. [blazblue] seems to get way too many reiterations way too quickly, which kills interest for me and for other people. Blazblue gets its next iteration announced soon after the previous comes out, making people feel like anything they learn here is unstable and subject to being completely wrong. People need to learn from ArcSys and at the very least change what they want to change without having to wait astounding amounts of time for a character and a balance patch. They couldve released the next numbered game by this point for gods sakes. Here is my next question, Which of you are willing to start playing Guilty Gear seriously right now? and can you play the PS2 version of GG on a PS3? It depends on the system. Its possible that really early ones (the ones with backwards compatibility) might be able to run it, but even then, its selective. If there got to be a community for GG I would gladly be a part of it. On my own thoughts about blazblue, the last time I was legitimately excited for a blazblue update was seeing CT in the arcade for the very first time. For every subsequent release, I cared less and less about it. It just became stale, sorry to say. I still like the game's style and story, and if they ever get around to releasing blazblue 2 or 3 or another named sequel that isnt BBCS2 super turbo hd edition, then I might buy it. Until then, I'll be playing Skullgirls and UNIB and P4U. Edited April 17, 2012 by Tophatmoffet
Milln Posted April 17, 2012 Author Posted April 17, 2012 Holy crap I just realized guys. Malik, from Takes of Graces is Tager. Tager is throwing boomerangs. And Richard's voice actor is the same as Jin's voice actor! He definitely does a great job with the batshit insane parts. He has practice. I know Asbel's voice too but I can't place and don't want to be told. Also I know Cheria is platinum, but it's not Platinum's voice, so step off. Edit: Guilty Gear is awesome, Guilty Gear is hype. However, I said before: I'm not going to be playing it. I'm sorry, Tad.
Klein Posted April 17, 2012 Posted April 17, 2012 Edit: Guilty Gear is awesome, Guilty Gear is hype. However, I said before: I'm not going to be playing it. I'm sorry, Tad. Rock some fuggin' faces off in KoF please.
Vocal Sabre Posted April 17, 2012 Posted April 17, 2012 As Far as it running on PS3, me and my GF played GGX2 on the phat 60GB PS3. So I'm guessing it's fine.
Seiki Posted April 17, 2012 Posted April 17, 2012 What I'm getting at is this: I want us to pick up Guilty Gear, but for us to be competent at it we really have to devote some time to it. Time that is already limited due to school, work, etc. So, something needs to be sacrificed (BB). Are you guys willing to invest in getting a PS2, a copy of guilty gear, and a converter (if needed)? And are you passionate enough to want to get good at it? Meaning sitting down in training mode and learning combos, oki setups, setting up get togethers to grind, etc. Right now, is a good point to get started in practicing GG. Seeing as both P4:U and UNIB, games the majority of you are interested in, isn't out yet. And if we start playing and growing guilty gear, maybe we can revive and get veteran players from Memphis and the rest of the south to start coming to tournaments making the scene even bigger and more competitive.
