Jackie Chandler Posted June 2, 2012 Posted June 2, 2012 Astaroth's right, Cookeville to Columbia is just over a two hour drive. I wouldn't mind the length of the drive so much as I would the cost in gas. If it's what we decide on, I'm sure I could swing the money if the people who ride with me chipped in, but I hate to ask that, especially if it might push people away from going at all. :/ That aside, I honestly don't think we need a really extravagant venue. At the stage we are, I think location is more of a factor than a lot of space/excessive attention to quality. Nashville serves as a good hub for the fighting game community in Tennessee IMO, and if we can find something good there, I think that should take priority.
Papstr Posted June 2, 2012 Posted June 2, 2012 That settles it. All future MTNGs shall take place in Jackie's car
Jackie Chandler Posted June 2, 2012 Posted June 2, 2012 At least people will have something to do while we look for a mythical Arby's.
Volpe-de-Glacio Posted June 2, 2012 Posted June 2, 2012 At the rate our turnouts are dropping, it's all we'd need. .
Tophatmoffet Posted June 2, 2012 Posted June 2, 2012 Weakness. Venues don't mean a whole lot for tournies (after availability), and mean nothing for just playing the damn games. If the hickory hollow mall means that much to you that you would quit a hobby over it, you must care a whole lot about a damn mall. Its a huge deal for the game galaxy, and you can (well I can't say you SHOULD, but you should.) care about it all you like, but if you'd "quit" something that burns free time for you, then you must not like it very much.

LuminAbyss Posted June 2, 2012 Posted June 2, 2012 For the time being, you guys should see if you can hold things at someone's place, similarly to casuals. When MI Airdashers was still trying to find a new place, we generally held our shit at Luna's or Del's. Also Jackie, how goes recording? No rush or anything, I'm just super excited to get the video done.

I miss something?
LastStarSaviour Posted June 2, 2012 Posted June 2, 2012 (edited) Calling me out on what? There's nothing to call out. I like all the games I play, but I like playing them competitively just as much. What do you need for that? A tournament scene. If the one we have here crumbles, chances are I won't find another one in the South for Blaz. Surely you don't expect me to keep playing games that I can't continue to be competitive in. Or do you expect me to try and be competitive on Net-play? Come on man, get serious. Or should I just spend hours on end playing in training and studying frames, match-ups, and learning combos knowing that i'll never get to apply them in an actual match outside of Net-play? Your logic is, as you would put it, weak. I recommend you try using common sense before trying to call someone out sir, IF that's what you're implying. I guarantee I put more time into all my fighters more than anyone in this thread. @Milln: I posted that comment knowing fully well how he wanted me to interpret it. The post itself was just too idiotic to respond to it any other way. If he wasn't trying to call anyone out, then you sir, are an instigator, bravo. Edited June 2, 2012 by LastStarSaviour
Klein Posted June 2, 2012 Posted June 2, 2012 So because half of what you enjoy in fighters MIGHT be gone, you should sell them all? I got'cha bro. Also, netplay can go a long way, just ask some of DL.

Also, netplay can go a long way, just ask some of DL. Well, if you guys wouldn't try so hard to take everything I say seriosuly you may have been able to notice the "LAWLS" I put in that post which would've possibly gave indication of whether I was joking or not. I'm done explaining this shit, now you guys are just being ignorant.
Papstr Posted June 2, 2012 Posted June 2, 2012 I just dug through your past like 2 pages of posts and didn't see "LAWLS" in any of them. Or were you not being literal?
Klein Posted June 2, 2012 Posted June 2, 2012 Star your 'debate' skill is as weak as your sense of humor and defenses against overheads and antiairs. LAWLS Look, a verbal option select, am I cool yet?
Tophatmoffet Posted June 2, 2012 Posted June 2, 2012 LSS, I mean only to offend you and nothing more. I think you're a generally good guy, and actually rather funny. If you like the games you play, then why drop them? If you need a competitive scene to play your fighting games, then driving is in your future. For me, driving and gas isn't a big deal, but I cant expect everyone here to think the same way I do. Turnouts might be lower, but in the end you do what you want to. If you want to play fighting games and go to tournies, then go. There will still be tournies and there will still be players. If you feel that the distance is too far, there's always online and ggpo. You'll do what you want. I'm just trying to say that you shouldn't blame a mall shutting down as your reason to stop playing.
LastStarSaviour Posted June 2, 2012 Posted June 2, 2012 (edited) @Papstr: Page 549, it's right there. @Klein: That's why most people ask the question, are you joking or not before shooting off their mouth about a topic (Milln does this btw because he understands that it sucks getting countered by option selects.) Also, I know my debate isn't strong, but I can say the same for a lot of people's critical thinking skills as well. But again, i've never have a full argument with anyone so where you're basing this analysis i'm not sure. Might want to do a cross-examination dude. Also, yes, you and your beard is very cool. @Tophet: I get where you're coming from but the fact of the matter is, I would literally have to drive OUT-OF-STATE to get BB competition regularly (Maybe not even that). I probably wouldn't go as far as selling my games, but without competition there would be absolutely no need for me to keep doing what I do now (which is constantly try to figure out a match-up, etc...). Edit: Also Klein, see me in tournament and then you can critize me on my defenses bro. Oh yeah, LAWLS! Edited June 2, 2012 by LastStarSaviour

Alphakami Posted June 3, 2012 Posted June 3, 2012 When Gear is console released, I'll be running the SE-R Homecoming event within 30-60 days of it's release. I'm expecting that to be a 50+ person Gear only event. I would love to warm up with hosting an MTN event, if not regularly, at least once before hand. Things that I plan to offer at all events at the venue in columbia is overnight crash availability to anyone that attends, and that's covered with the venue fee, so game can go as late as anyone wants. Besides that, I've always focused on a hospitable setup with a large portion of gamer needs factored in. I mentioned a few months back about the potential of needing to unite the scenes, and this is the perfect oppurtunity, even if the Columbia venue isn't used. I think we need to make sure to get off the timetable of the surrounding states monthlies. Since there has to be a change, it's a good time to tweak things that have hindered growth in the past. Anyway, my .02 cents there.
