Blade Posted April 16, 2011 Posted April 16, 2011 I'm setting up this thread, primarily to act as a Liason of sorts to Baka-Updates (aka Manga-Updates.com), and add some manga releases if possible, so they can be uploaded by other sites (such as Mangafox.com or somesuch) so they are more accessible to the public via online manga readers. Now my concern is this, the manga that's been translated thus far does not have an official Group Release name...it's been translated by Zephyr07 and worked on by Emma, but there is no group name per se. I figure why don't we just call ourselves Dustloop Scans or something? Unless you guys got a better idea, in which case I'm eager to hear. Also, apologies to Rallamajoop who is credited for working on GGXtra, who seems to be on hiatus, I don't know where he is. Anyways, I'm willing to help in the uploading/data entry areas of releasing manga for BlazBlue, Guilty Gear, and others. I'm aware that certain "pornographic" manga has already been released, but things like Guilty Gear X-tra were never officially worked on, except in translation. Anyway, for now, I just want to put BlazBlue: Chimelical Complex up on the board so to speak, so I want you guys' go-ahead to name a Scanlation group spearheading these projects, so I can credit whom needs to take the credit, then we can do some serious official uploading so people can read it more easily, rather than Photobucket or something.
Blade Posted April 25, 2011 Author Posted April 25, 2011 The sooner we come up with a name, the sooner I can work on uploading a release.
DeXTeR Posted April 25, 2011 Posted April 25, 2011 I don't know yet if printed version of CC has more data than online version but I will be able to scan its 1st volume in June/July.
Emma Posted May 1, 2011 Posted May 1, 2011 (edited) Oh god, I'm sorry for not seeing this sooner. ;; Let's call it... uh. BOUNDARY PANDA. As for how this is going to be set up, I'm... not really sure. I suppose you can do what you feel is best, but I never really made these with the intent of putting them on sites like MangeFox. XD;; Not that I'm objecting to them being put on there--but yeah. Edit: Actually, let me get back to you on this. Edited May 7, 2011 by Emma
Blade Posted May 4, 2011 Author Posted May 4, 2011 Posting this here to get stuff started: http://www.mangaupdates.com/showtopic.php?tid=26074 Also "Dustloop Scans" makes more sense since that's where most of the members are from.
Tong Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 What good is a scanlation group with no colorists? JK... I would like to color 1 page per chapter If thats possible. Would make a nice addiction and I have some free time.
Blade Posted May 7, 2011 Author Posted May 7, 2011 @paola: What can you do/what do you want to do? Aside from Zephyr who is our on-again off-again translator, we don't have many to rely on (even I'm not very good at this). If you want to do cleaning, I suggest asking Emma as she tends to be the one with the raws. Also, I have no idea what Quality-Control is, but I guess most Scanlation groups have them? O.o @Tong: Ask Emma if you want to get some raw colors. Also I'm considering making a group banner for us. As for my role, while I'm not so good at translating, I am good at Photoshoppery, and I'd say I'm a decent editor (maybe), but for the most part I just wanna set stuff up. For now I'm waiting for Emma and CC's response, so please be patient. Thanks!
kwangjae Posted May 7, 2011 Posted May 7, 2011 Can I work as a Typesetter? or a Quality-Checker? or what ever you want me to do?
Blade Posted May 7, 2011 Author Posted May 7, 2011 For now we're still discussing set-up, I'm new at this too, so please understand and be patient, I'll see what Emma and CC want to do as soon as I can.
Emma Posted May 7, 2011 Posted May 7, 2011 Guys, I think I need to address something here. As I’ve mentioned earlier, I started making scanlations with Zephyr with no intention of ever making a huge group like this, and as a result didn’t have much interest at first when Blade made this thread until I was poked about it in my profile. Editing Chimelical Complex and having Zephyr being the translator for it is something I enjoy doing on my free time, which I happen to have a lot of… orz. So with all of this suddenly happening and without much of our say, I’m not feeling very good about it. After talking with Zephyr about these concerns, he agrees, and on his and my behalf we would prefer it if we continue distributing CC for Dustloop as just a two-man team. ): I’m sorry if I’ve disappointed anyone by saying this, but please keep in mind that 1. This is the less stressful option for us and 2. We… weren’t organizing anything like this in the first place. .-. If it's any consolation, CC wasn't the only project you had in mind, right? So... yeah. I should also note that on the subject of distributing, you are more than welcome to post our version of Chimelical Complex anywhere provided that you credit us, but besides that we’re just going to keep to posting to Photobucket and Kokuujin. Again, sorry about all this.
Blade Posted May 8, 2011 Author Posted May 8, 2011 Well, I kinda figured you weren't up for anyone else working on it, and the expectation wasn't so much for anything like timely work like normal scanlators do (i.e. a scan comes out and you release quickly, I'm not trying to pressure or anything like that), besides that, CC is irregularly released anyway. No, what I'm trying to do is get enough of a credits page and/or organization so that we can at least distribute the existing scanlations with your names on em. Most release sites won't let you upload scans unless there's a group that's doing the releases (in other words a group name that you release UNDER). It doesn't have to be a regular release, and it can just be you two guys and you can do things the way you've been doing them. All I really need is a name that you guys collectively would call yourselves and a list of names of who does what, etc etc. I'm not expecting much more than that. And when you guys release something, we slap a credits page in the release with your names under (insert group here) and that's all there is to it. No timing, no pressure. I hope there isn't any misunderstanding.
Tong Posted May 8, 2011 Posted May 8, 2011 Thats right, Its a win/win situation, Emma and Zephyr can continue doiing their stuff while Blade does the business work like publishing the manga and spreading the love. I think Chimelical Complex is an excellent manga that deserves to be shared.
Emma Posted May 8, 2011 Posted May 8, 2011 Are you referring to something like this, then: ...but with a name? If so, it wouldn't be hard for me to just stick on a name to use, but what I was mainly concerned about was that it was beginning to feel more and more like we were about to have a huge group take over this. I don't mean to belittle the people who have offered their help, and I really do appreciate that there are people who want to help out, but Zephyr and I don't really need it at the moment. ^^;;; Since the comics are already available online, there isn't a need to scan and clean the images besides taking screenshots of it and putting it together (which shouldn't take more than an hour) and then clean up the Japanese text. Zephyr translates it, I typeset it and make that little credit page at the end, and... yeah. That's pretty much all we do. I hope there wasn't a misunderstanding, either, and if it seems like I was upset, I'm sorry. ): I'm not upset, just... concerned? I'm not sure what to call it, but if all you want is for me to start adding an actual name to the credit page, I can do that.
sesame Posted May 8, 2011 Posted May 8, 2011 not to butt in or anything but isnt this already a webcomic that's free for everyone to see(for a limited time)? i like it better keep the translations under the radar. it doesnt have to be all over the interent and all over the 'web distribution' over the course credit will be lost and purpose will be diuluted. I think it's better as it is no need for it to be uploaded to mangafox or the likes...... I dont think it's any easliler to read on there then PB ( i perfer PB and DLzips over weblinks actuall just some personal opinions dont mind me too much
Emma Posted May 8, 2011 Posted May 8, 2011 That's another good point, too. Not just to keep in under the radar, but we weren't making this for a huge audience like whoever lurks MangaFox--just the people on here and a few of my friends. Heck, I already know of a place or two that have linked to CC elsewhere and there's even someone who posts it on their Youtube here. It is an excellent manga, yes, but it's already in places like Photobucket, here, Zephyr's blog, that guy's Youtube... if anyone wants it, it's not that hard to find. ;;; I... actually sort of like it the way we have it right now.
Tong Posted May 8, 2011 Posted May 8, 2011 (edited) People that know about Blabzlue will surely find the manga. But what about people who like manga and never heard of BB? I know people who like to read new stuff, these guys will usually be at their own "turf", like mangafox/helpers/stream, just waiting for something... And I didnt know that It was free. Edited May 8, 2011 by Tong
Blade Posted May 8, 2011 Author Posted May 8, 2011 (edited) I'm not sure what you mean by "keeping it under the radar"...honestly that's like saying you like something because it ISN'T well-known or popular and just an underground comic, which was never the point or quality of the manga in the first place. BlazBlue is pretty popular if you consider that even Hentai doujinshi has been released for it under other release groups (and if Hentai is the only BlazBlue release people have read, that's kinda sad). Thing is this: mangafox has the benefit of a manga-reader, a browser-based web application specifically for reading manga scans, no unzipping, no photobucket slowdown, no mediafire/rapidshare/megaupload/whatever, and in some cases on various sites besides mangafox, no image compression/size reduction/quality loss. And even in mangafox's case, the quality is usually really good. As for "losing credit", that's why you only distribute to trustworthy sites (you do research based on what manga-releases knows currently, and pick and choose who gets it). The worst I've seen is people trying to auction scans off for money under their name, which is completely illegal and pretty much spotted on-sight by most in the manga-reading community. Most readers I know keep track of the major releases like Naruto and Bleach and such, and they know who releases them and are grateful (as am I). And if you're still worried about losing credit, you can always slap a small watermark on each and every page in certain parts of the scan. The only other thing I can think of, is if you know java-script, installing a manga-reader app for yourself somewhere on some site, if that's how you want to do things....but honestly I don't think that's fair to BlazBlue fans who don't know this manga exists (and I know they're out there, I've had people ask me on occasion where certain images come from). And lastly, the MAIN reason I brought this topic up in the first place, is because CC isn't the only manga people were working on...I've seen new stuff for Phase 0 and besides that there's a lot of untouched Guilty Gear raws that need doing (despite it already having been translated). If we were to set something up, it would be exclusive to us and we could take our time with it and do whatever, and the same thing applies to GG manga as it does to BB, some people don't know it exists, so they have no idea. Barahime Holic Posted September 24, 2011 Posted September 24, 2011 (edited) i hope this does not sound idiotic, but..... where can i read those scanlations??? i'm new here..... and in my cellphone, this does not show the whole forum...... Edited September 24, 2011 by Barahime Holic
