well when people are really offensive i never know wat to do other then just block and then that never gets me anywhere and i end up eating a combo cuz of a overhead or stuff like that x.x combos are kinda hard for me too :[ i thought like someone could play me and teach me some things that i should be doing and stuff like that

Eating overheads is simply not knowing what is in your opponent's arsenal. You can either find someone who plays x character that gives you trouble in particular and play them a lot while paying careful attention to what their overheads look like and when they are able to use it (what normals does it gatling out of?), or you can actually try to learn to play the character yourself. This one takes longer/more work but tends to teach you a LOT more about the character and not just what overheads they have.

What character do you play?

Unfortunately there is a LOT to learn when it comes to games like this. There is no single answer to what to do when you're under pressure (pressure - when the opponent is forcing you to block or react to what they give you), but there are a few things you can do.

Counter Assault (after blocking, forward + A+B) - 50% heat, has invulnerability, often an attack, but sometimes not.

Barrier Blocking (A+B while blocking) - drains barrier gauge, increases pushback on opponent's moves, giving you some breathing space or an opening if they try to continue pressure.

Instant Blocking (tap back to block) - lessens the time you're in blockstun, giving you a couple extra frames to throw out a poke or something.

Backdash (double tap back) - risky, but most backdashes have some invulnerability, but VERY RISKY.

Burst (A+B+C+D) - invuln, blows away (if green burst) or sends upward (if gold burst). Can be baited.

These are a number of the options available when you're on defense. There are other parts to the game where neither person is pressuring, or when you're pressuring your opponent, where you have to keep in mind their options while using yours. Explore around the rest of the beginner mode forums as well as the forums for your specific character for more help.

Combos come with practice by the way, just get a basic one down (often called a bread n butter (bnb) combo) that you can get to from a number of moves.

If you don't pick someone and stick with them you'll always lose online.

That's just a matter of knowing what combos you can do off what normals, distance and spacing considered. Many combos can be done from a number of different starters, but it depends on character. For starting off, it's best to know some basic, short combos that are easy to pull off but do decent damage. Usually most people's game plan starting off is to figure out how to get damage out of what combos they know and then try to fish for openings that will lead into that combo. When you are at higher levels of play, this evolves into "I know what kind of combo I can do off of any possible situation." It's pretty much baby steps.

I would advise picking a character to focus on and then ask in the general threads of the appropriate character for advice on how to play that specific character. Make sure to thumb through the any stickied information that might be relevant.

IMO Rachel is harder to learn, but I really haven't played Valkenhayne so I couldn't tell you about him. The wind and shorter normals makes Rachel harder to learn in general.

so valkenhayne would be easier cuz he gots longer pokes?

It might. Not sure.

My first FG character was Lambda though, so the transition to Rachel was a bit rough, I felt it the most through the shorter normals and the more complex combos. Rachel also has to keep different things in mind, as the pumpkin and the frog and you and your opponent are all affected by wind... and your projectiles should you have any out. Plus you have to manage your wind... I just think that Rachel is one of the more complex characters compared to the rest of the cast.

lamba and rachel both seem like zoning characters and this game seems more focus on rushdown D: wouldnt that mean there not that great?

Not necessarily. Rachel and Nu were the best characters in CT... >.>

And Rachel can do a little rushdown if you know how.

Have you watched youtube vids of the characters you want to play? It helps to see how other people do it. Also learn how to "punish". Also zoning characters you have to more focused on runaway and making the other player do something from zoning them. The basic idea of zoning in fighting games is that you make the other play do riskier thing as in jump in attacks. The basic strategy that has its origins from street fighter is that you throw fireballs all day and the other player jumps in you uppercut him or use a dragon punch. This is going to be a bit different in Blazblue but you can use the same idea. Rachel is one of the harder characters to learn.

Personal ranking of time to learn character from hardest to easiest.

top 3 hardest

Rachel - wind, combos and setups

Carl - The sister

litchi - Staff setups

But if you can learn them you can profit.

Bottom 3 hardest or easiest 3

Jin - throw ice and rush down

Ragna - the only thing you do is rush down

Lamda - Zone all day and throw in some mix up.

Some of the other characters has some thing that might make it harder to play them at first.

Hakumen - Meter management

Arakume - Curse meter

Tager - High level tourney play

The other characters have there issues and perks so take them as you want.
