Overview

Hazama is very strong in CS2. He's also a character you don't want to get hit by (especially in the corner is a given). Getting hit by 6C is bad times and could possibly kill you. However, other than that this match up looks a lot like it did in CS1. As usual, pumpkin makes approaching him a lot better.

Tips/Misc

  • One setup to watch out for is where Hazama will try to bait you into doing a throw and then hit you with 6C (which will move him back and out of your throw range). This really hurts, so learn to watch out for it.
  • He can punish TD with warp portal super. This also goes if you summon TD in the air or if you do summons period at full screen when he has 50 meter.
  • Learn how Hazama's chains work so you understand where there are gaps in chain zoning. Summon pumpkin at angles he can't punish you at.
  • If he tries to full screen approach you with chains, IB 6A.
  • Hazama's mobility options are not very good for avoiding rods. So have rods out and use them carefully. You might even consider not using Sword Iris at the end of the BnB to save the rods you have on screen and use them to discourage him zoning.
  • Jayoku will lose to 2C, but don't overly count on it. Hazama can get a lot of damage if he baits 2C.
  • Play patient and wait for openings.

Make sure that you instant block his chains. Hazama shouldn't be randomly approaching you with his chains. Instant block and use 6a to punish chain approaches. Remember you can punish Hazama easily if he tries to approach you full screen. It gets a little difficult to punish at mid-screen, hence, the reason why you instant block.

I noticed some Rachel players in videos like to use 2A when Hazama approaches with chains (so you duck under his aerial attack and hit him back). I tried this out myself yesterday and... it works like 50% 30% of the time :psyduck: It seems to lose to his j.A but win against other attacks if they aren't very well spaced/timed. j.A always beats it and j.B is pretty much 50/50. I don't know if this is a tactic that should be attempted.

If he likes to do stance mixups a lot, you can always most of the time beat him out with 5B before the stance attack lands, unless he is too far away. If you're on point, you can do this on reaction. If he does stance overhead, you will CH juggle him with the 5B, and you can run up and 5B again into a full aircombo. If he does stance sweep, you will hit him even at almost max range, and you will get a CH too and he will stay grounded. It's much less riskier than attempting to cat chair it. I suppose stance DP would win but noone uses that in mixups.

Another thing that really works is B lobella.

Zoning is another good strategy as well. Hit him with a good sword iris when he ouroboros's in.

cat chair works good against Devouring Fang, but be careful with timing because he can bait. Cat chair also works against Serpant's Infernal raptue if he doesn't combo into it.

TD works better than BBL if you have the heat, the only exception is if he is in the corner and you can combo into it.

btw I'm new here, didn't see a introduction thread so hi everyone, also i'm the same swordiris on the Blazblue.com forum if you are familiar. Hi everyone!

I was wondering if we can get some Wuku input on this match-up? He plays both characters, I'm sure he has some useful things to say on it.

Also, I really really hate this match-up. ;-;

Air B cannon works well but I wouldn't abuse it. And you can't zone Hazama really or get a safe summon out in neutral because of the chains. Sword Iris is good (as in any matchup) but to get poles out you have to use lobelias, and using them in neutral is a pretty bad idea because of his drive attacks. He's basically like Lambda in the sense that he can punish any whiffed special on reaction from (almost) fullscreen - but he's worse because he can cancel his projectiles on whiff. You have to be really careful about which attack you do at which time. Air B cannon is probably the safest one to throw out from my experience.

I don't get this, you only use BBL for combos anyway and TD isn't used for combos at all.

TD in neutral is a bad idea most of the time against him. He can avoid it entirely by pulling himself up with chains, and if he's got meter he can punish it with portal super. Don't use TD when he's on the ground. It's good for yomi'ing a random aerial chain approach though.

He doesn't have much Rachel v. Hazama or Hazama v. Rachel match up experience.

I'm having problem getting in on him when he's using his coils. Should I use my rods on the field or should I have to block patiently until I find an opening? What should I do?

you can't go wrong with blocking, as long are you're doing it correctly. this match up is definitely one of the more annoying ones for rachel because hazama can just stuff all [poor] summoning attempts. however, do you best to find places to get out pumpkin and summon rods. if you use sword iris properly, then hazama will definitely think twice about just coming in. once you have screen presence with your summons, he'll be the one having a problem with you getting in.

Pay attention to how Hazama is interrupting you with his chains. You can use wind to fake him out. Be careful of how you land once air teching. Most Hazama players will fish for a 214D~B hit. Downwind + barrier will bait this.

For the people that got to play EX, how does Rachel 6A fare once you block chain approaches? I vaguely remember a Japanese video demonstrating 6A in these situations.

I've seen 6A beat chain approaches pretty much everytime even without IBing them in CSEX.

However I also heard that chain approaches got stronger because they have less hitstop, so he can cancel into attacks earlier. Really not sure about it.

Ah. Just tried something out. From near max distance 5D chain or so it's very possible to react to the chain coming out with 5B. Get 5B to clash with the chain and cancel into 236A/B/C. Chances are you can CH Hazama if he is already reeling himself in.

Lately I've been playing a lot of Hazama players that like to mash 2a/5a on my wake-up in the corner. What's the best way to deal with this?

Posted

block :(

actually maybe winded neutral tech will go over his 2a and take you out of the corner, gonna test it later when I can. not super reliable though

Yes it does, I believe winded neutral tech works against all chars if they are crouching or using low profile moves. If he stands (up) though, you'll have to deal with meaties.
