In addition to every tournament and contest having a preset prize amount, many of the events will have Qualifying Tournaments leading up to the Grand Final Invitational Tournaments on Sunday. In essence, each of these Qualifying Tournaments are stand-alone events; you can only enter one of the scheduled events for a specific title and there is a prize for the winner. The top two players in each of the Qualifying Tournaments will be asked to compete in a Grand Final Invitational Tournament. As the Grand Final Tournament is a stand-alone tournament, losses do not carry over and all the players have an equal chance to win it all. For example: Marvel vs Capcom 3 will have four Qualifying Tournaments, two on Friday and two on Saturday. You can only sign up for one of these tournaments and, the winner of each tournament will take home a gift card or equivalent value in cash. The first and second place player from each of the four tournaments are allowed to compete in an eight-player Grand Final Invitational Tournament bracket on Sunday. The top three placers in the Grand Final Invitational Tournament win a portion of the $5,000 prize money. To add to that example... if you and three friends attend DEVASTATION and want to compete in the Marvel vs Capcom 3 tournament, each of you can register in a different tournament and NOT HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT PLAYING EACH OTHER! That is, of course, unless you each win and get moved on to the Grand Final Invitational Tournament. This bracket will be seeded as follows: - Tournament 1, 1st Place Player vs Tournament 4, 2nd Place Player - Tournament 2, 1st Place Player vs Tournament 3, 2nd Place Player - Tournament 3, 1st Place Player vs Tournament 2, 2nd Place Player - Tournament 4, 1st Place Player vs Tournament 1, 2nd Place Player EVENT DETAILS What: DEVASTATION 2011 http://www.devastationevent.com When is it: Thursday, October 6th through Sunday, October 9th 2011 * special Thursday Night Preview Event tickets available (only 250) * Where is it at/Venue: Phoenix Convention Center, West Building 100 North 3rd Street Phoenix, Arizona 85004 USA More information and map: http://www.devastationevent.com/venue Hotel Arrangements: We have reserved a block of rooms at the Hyatt Regency Phoenix. iw2ma Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 Yo, reviving this thing. Devastation has Blazblue there guys, cmon who's going and from where? I need a ride and im in OK lol.
M19Kamikaze Posted September 30, 2011 Posted September 30, 2011 I'm going. Good thing I live right down the street (highway) from it. Also, is the BB prize right?
iw2ma Posted September 30, 2011 Posted September 30, 2011 most likely only 300 lol, unless it gets one hell of a turnout lol
Spirit Juice Posted September 30, 2011 Posted September 30, 2011 Still iffy I can make this, but if I do, you guys can come say hello at the BrokenTier booth.
M19Kamikaze Posted October 1, 2011 Posted October 1, 2011 Spirit Juice is that...was that... no. Not BLATANT ADVERTISING!!! I thought you were above such trivial and disrespectful tac- I'll try to stop by if i can find it lol. The Devasation site says 1st place gets $150 as seen below: http://www.devastationevent.com/game-contest-prizes/
ThienKieuTam Posted October 10, 2011 Posted October 10, 2011 Sorry to say but this shit was weak. Devastation pretty much made BB look like crap in Arizona. How're you going to try and compete for just $150? Super smash bros and Rock, papers, scissors had a higher 1st prize money and that's sad. Everything ran late, BB started 2 hours later which made a lot of people not show up for the tournament. The tournament bracket list was in like 3 font, and with the lights very dim, you couldn't really see peoples names. There wasn't even a real BB station. We had 1-3 max, with only 1 DLC PS3 set-up. It was more like playing casuals at this tournament. At least that's what it felt like to me.
M19Kamikaze Posted October 10, 2011 Posted October 10, 2011 Might I also add that the tourney results are NOWHERE TO BE FOUND. Except for the same line saying: "Blazblue results: 1st = Tubazo, 2nd = a Litchi player (Ryuudo?), 3rd = a Tager who wasn't Jan. Jan got taken out by a Carl, hooray for BB matchups." Clearly, BlazBlue means NOTHING to Arizona.

It was extremely sad how poorly organized the situation was for BB and the prize money was ridiculous. You have much simpler games like SF, MvC, and hell... even rock paper scissors giving out more money than this game did. I wasn't even bothered that I played like an idiot, cause the money and wait time didn't even feel worth it. Some of the stations didn't even have all the DLC characters and the tournament, unlike SF, MvC, MK(I think I'm forgetting one more) was for one day, and wasn't even covered on a stream. This tournament only cared about SF and MvC3 honestly. There was some neat hype for MK every so often, but that's about it. I was sorely disappointed with this BB tournament.
4Corners Posted October 11, 2011 Posted October 11, 2011 HOLY SHIT FUCK YES JAMAAL!!! SECOND PLACE, BAYBEE!
Ryyudo Posted October 12, 2011 Posted October 12, 2011 I admit, the tournament was poorly run with should-be easy to fix solutions and expectations of DLC. It did run kind of slow, started extremely late, and we only got maybe an hour and a half to two hours on stream. Not even good prize money either for the entrants and furthermore that checks will be received in 30 business days? Geez... Still, despite all that, I'm super glad I came. Having 50-ish people sign up? I was lucky to even get get 8 people on a 5 dollar side tournament out of pity. This was super exciting to me despite the many flaws. And I guess I was more on vacation, so I probably have a more positive outlook as it gave me plenty of time to hang out, get drunk, and be hella belligerent on Saturday night (which, yet again, I apologize for that hahaha!) I hope for another chance to come out there if I'm welcome BlazBlue players are only a two hour flight away? I'd be willing to take every now and then. Hahaha, and thanks Tony. I'm surprised you still check Dustloop for anything ever . Hope you're well, and feel free to PM me for random chat. <3
