[CSE] Relius Clover General Discussion "Family Man Extraordinaire"

It's sure been quiet in here.

Anyway, since the JP release of CSE is coming up, what threads do you guys want to have up by then? I know Uri was going to make a new combo thread so the current one could become a setup/gameplay discussion thread, and I had suggested a Q&A thread. This seems like it should be all we need, but just in case, is there any other thread that anyone else can see being useful to us outside of the matchup threads (which will be made after or just at release preferably)?

I know that there's probably not a lot of people that'll agree with me, but maybe if enough people get access to the Japanese release, we can have a tutorial/tutorial video thread? I guess that can just be merged with the combo thread though, but i always found tutorial threads to be really helpful.

I like that idea of a tutorial video thread. It would really help bring more interest from beginners, who tend to stray away from more difficult character designs.

I know I saw other character forums doing a tutorial vid as sort of a group project, and it seemed like a pretty good idea. I also think that it would be a good idea to do something like that once enough of us get our hands on the Japanese release so it can hopefully be ready in time for the US release or at least soon after.

General Discussion - Misc. talk, basically what we do now. This would contain all of the general discussion that would go on in the forum. We could talk about anything here as long as it's within reason. (Tactics, match-ups, characters we hate fighting, characters we enjoy fighting, matches we've had, critiquing, theory fighting, helping beginners, tournaments, etc.)

Video Index and Discussion - This will contain all of the videos in a single section, with good organization. We'd also discuss the videos in here and see what we can take from the matches.

Combo Guide and Discussion - Here we'll keep all of the important/optimal combos in a complete guide listing the different combos/starters/variations with the meter gain and damage as well. This can be used to post/discuss combos and share different findings.

Technical Guide and Tutorial - This will have all of the information you need to know about Relius' moves, playstyle, strategies, functions, it'll be the complete breakdown and guide to the character. We can put the video you guys are talking about in here to show the players how he works and what you need to do with a visual guide.

F.A.Q. - Self explanatory.

We might want to at least have a thread open for just the video guide specifically at first so it will be easier to sort through the info going into it and begin breaking it down in the first post, but after it's done, we could move it to the Technical Guide thread and lock the old one. I think that might make it easier for getting the video guide organized and completed, and it will also keep video guide discussion from obstructing anything in the Technical Guide/Tutorial thread.

Good idea, that'll keep everything more organized and make things way easier for everybody.

I have the JP Vita and PS3 versions on preorder. Going to be recording and streaming when my copies come.

I'm going to see if I have the money for it, I don't like the idea of buying a JP copy and a US copy just so I can play story mode and such, but I don't know if I want to wait another few months to get it.

If I can get the JP copy then we could get the threads up and running way before the massive load of players start getting in here. By then we'd have the general discussion, video thread and combo thread and probably a good bit of the technical guide finished by then. The combo thread and technical guide will probably take longer, but I'm sure we could get a lot of it done.

How about a separate thread for Setups / Strats?

And someone said to me that Relius isn't the type of character to use setups. He is, and he will benefit a lot from them, And character with a secondary damage source can use Setups for Oki / Whatever. I think it would be a great addition.

Nah, we don't really need a setup thread, Relius isn't primarily a setup character, so there probably won't be more then just a couple. That can all be covered in the Technical Guide or the Combo Guide.

The addition of a Puppet alone would give him a minimum of 6, Coupled with IAD + Ignis I'm sure a lot more than 2 can be found. And a hell of a lot that almost guarantee mixup certain.

I wouldn't say he benefits from setups any more than say, Rachel; and they don't find it particularly necessary to make a unique thread guide for it.

In fact the only characters I think really benefit from that kind of thing would be Litchi Daisharin setups and µ.

Looking back to this unblockable with the gear super, I wonder if there's a way to do this in the corner, but returning Ignis before the super so she will have enough meter for another full combo after the reset. I was thinking something like (combo) -> 4D -> 5D -> 3C -> 632146C -> reset into new combo. If there's enough time to squeeze in that 5D, this could create a situation where the opponent would be forced to burst/throw out a well-timed reversal/CA if they don't want to lose the round then and there, given Relius' corner combo damage. He would have the potential to do an unblockable in this situation 2 or 3 times depending on how much meter he had going into the first combo as well as how much meter would be gained, and that should be more than enough to finish off even Tager as long as Ignis recovers enough of her gauge when she is returned in between combos.

Sounds awesome. I'd like to play against you with my Relius if that's possible. I'm going to have my game on pre-order too and I'll probably have it right when it comes out. Living in Japan is so awesome sometimes.

Well, in the case of setups, I'd say Relius has only has two main ones - the unblockables. After Req Vinum, you can have Ignis use Geara Nose while you take to the air or use an overhead. It's pretty easy to do since Geara Nose does multiple hits. The second one is after a knockdown - Geara Act and 2B. It's harder but doesn't take any meter. Well, I'm pretty sure you guys know these setups already but other than that I don't really feel that Relius has any other setups that you need to worry about. What's most important about using Relius is to balance using Ignis and stay tricky. Don't respect your opponent's offense too much or you'll get yourself into a bad situation too often. I feel that I've lost many more matches than I should have by staying on the defensive without Ignis too much.

Well in the previous games there were little differences in the JP and US versions - you could switch between Japanese/English audio and subtitles. Maybe it will be the same this time around?

If that's going to be available in the upcoming JP version then why the eff does NA not have a console release date ;-; [that I know of]

JP versions of the BB series only had JP/ENG audio selection. Never did it have eng subtitle option that I remember. The only thing we know of for the NA release is a mention that it was supposed to be around the NA Vita launch time. No 100% confirmed date has been put down yet.

Yea, Vita NA is Feb 22nd. After CT the release window for the two regions has become more and more apart. If you want to play it sooner you import (or move to Texas/Jpn).

I may actually play him, kupo. It will be the second time I attempt to play a non female character in this game. Let's see how this works out, kupo.
