gli Posted December 8, 2011 Author Posted December 8, 2011 Try playing through Tecmo's only RPG, Secret of the Stars.
AchedSphinx Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 With Unlimited Saga, it was more like you play it, then nothing makes sense. It's so weirdly bizarre, not in the Persona, Disgaea, anything SMT kind of way, the mechanics were super bad. It was basically a challenge to even make your characters attack or use an item. Kind of funny. I want to go back and play it to see why I loathe that game so much. It's a good thing I still have my PS2, which I play more than my xbox 360.
gli Posted December 8, 2011 Author Posted December 8, 2011 Unlimited SaGa was a gamble yes. Romancing SaGa games are top-tier though. SaGa Frontier is my favorite from the SaGa series though. Right next to that is RS3.
AchedSphinx Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 Hmm, I always get the games in that series mixed up. Not sure if it was Unlimited or Romancing Saga. It was the one on PS2. Well, suffice to say, it sucks that that was the first of the series that I played. It turned me off anything with Saga in its name lol.
kro_ Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 Magna Carta. Sexy art, but one of the shittiest battle systems I've ever seen. Couldn't bring myself to finish the game.

tofurr Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 RPGs I hate: FF8 (brofist Tari) FF3 Magna Carta (brofist kro_) Eternal Sonata Ragnarok Online Lost Odyssey
gli Posted December 8, 2011 Author Posted December 8, 2011 RPGs I hate: Eternal Sonata Infraction for tofurr. Reason: Hates Eternal Sonata why u gotta break hearts tofurr? *expects some sort of image post as a response*
tofurr Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 I guess I don't really hate it... I just got bored with it. I really liked the art style/graphics, and the characters were pretty cool, the battle system was meh and I got bored. Made it to some pirate ship and stopped playing.
AchedSphinx Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 Infraction for tofurr. Reason: Hates Eternal Sonata why u gotta break hearts tofurr? *expects some sort of image post as a response* I got you friend!

AchedSphinx Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s6-ht9nKhAE&feature=player_detailpage#t=396s Eternal Sonata may not have been the best RPG in the world. But I loved the music. Chopin ftw. I got an A in music appreciation class because of that guy!
AchedSphinx Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 RPGs I hate: FF8 (brofist Tari) FF3 Magna Carta (brofist kro_) Eternal Sonata Ragnarok Online Lost Odyssey I played Lost Odyssey and Magna Carta and yeah, those weren't pretty good games haha. The one thing Lost Odyssey had going for it though was those little stories about the MC's life. I liked those. I never played Magna Carta, but I did play Magna Carta 2, I figure it's the same. Pretty lame and boring and their gestures were kinda scary. I'm surprised Blue Dragon isn't apart of that list. Seriously... you fought crap in that game haha.
tofurr Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 That's because I've never played Blue Dragon. Looks like that was a good thing.
Kuuhaku Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 Yeah. FF8 is pretty bad. Other bad RPGS: Beyond the Beyond Final Fantasy Mystic Quest Tales of Innocence (my god, that jungle map) Wild Arms 3 Wild Arms Alter Code F Final Fantasy 12 Tales of Innocence is a sad tale where the character and story is actually pretty okay. Gameplay is also decently fun. What kills it is whoever designed the maps and environment. I'm sure someone had to be possessed by Satan to make that jungle map.
gli Posted December 8, 2011 Author Posted December 8, 2011 Other bad RPGS: Beyond the Beyond Holy crap I thought I was the only one that knew about this. Yeah it's bad. The arranged soundtrack is amazing though.
Kuuhaku Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 Haha... remembering that game makes me sad. Wild Arms Alter Code F probably makes me the most sad out of that list. Wild Arms 1 reproduced by Wild Arms 3 staff (which is why it's bad like Wild Arms 3).

I played a bit of Tales of Innocence and understand what you mean by that. It actually turned me off from the game, though I found the story alright, might be a random good game if I can trudge through. FF12 was like, interesting for me. I liked that I could just set up my party to play while I watched TV, it was hilarious. I was kind of expecting you to put FF13 up there though. So many people dislike that game, but for whatever reason, I loved it, with the exception of Mr. Rubber Fro and Cocktease. @ Tofurr, you're a lucky person to have missed out on it. Sadly, I borrowed it from my friend, and cringed for forty days and forty nights. I don't even understand how any of that game happened. It ruins sentences!
tofurr Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 Since we're on the subject of RPGs, is anyone looking foward to XIII-2?
Kuuhaku Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 It's a sequel to an FF, so it will probably be bad. That being said, I liked FF13. It was pretty much FF10 but shinier. I also thought fro guy was cool. Too bad late game he's only good for one fight. Only person I didn't like was Snow. Not only is he perpetual retarded, but he's also really terrible.
Tari Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 Oh. FFXIII sucked to me. For so many reasons. FFXII was a good game to me, but I understand that a lot of people found the systems in the game... unfitting for standard RPGs. I still think it was, by and large, a good game (the story was great up until the point where the writer got fired dammit). Not really caring about any of the FF games at this point, though. Type-0 looks awesome.
AchedSphinx Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 Lol, yeah... don't remind me of X-2, but I played it and found it kind of interesting. So I'll be getting XIII-2 day one, because well, I'm curious how they managed to make that story make sense. I was still baffled at the end of it, so I'm curious what's going down. To me Snow was like... there, I don't know, he was wasn't he? I liked the spear girl a lot, and Lightning since they seemed more aware of everything, while everyone else was sorta in the loop. Did you use the spear chick, whose name escapes me, as your lead, her special thingy is pretty awesome.
Starlight777 Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 Here's another terrible RPG: Star Ocean The Last Hope. Seriously I only played through half of it before I couldn't take any more of Edge's whining.
tofurr Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 X-2 had the best battle system ever and made it worth playing for me. XIII-2 actually looks like an improvement to XIII.
