Why do we have the Facebook group again? It seems really counter-productive.

God forbid I try to do something useful or helpful for us.

To be honest, I am glad to see someone who's gung-ho about wanting to be helpful and build the community. It's just the fact that the group on FB feels like it's working against what is needed, in my opinion. This thread needs the traffic as new players outside of the fighting game community as a whole will think there is no scene. They won't know about the closed FB group and most of what's posted on there could be posted in here. To me, it seems counter-productive to take all of the BlazBlue talk away from DL (especially this thread), even if it's a little more convenient for people.

However, I do understand having it for local or state tournament postings as it would be a nice place to keep that organized. Then, you could include a link in the first thread post to it (with something like "For the latest events and postings, join the FB group). You could also put all of the stuff about Casuals there so new players have a chance to see the faces behind the screen names before they venture over for the first time.

Otherwise, I want to keep the traffic in the thread, even if it's nearly pointless at times. XD

Check the opening post again, Azure put the link to the FB group there ever since the thread opened. I made the FB group closed because I would like to limit it to Florida players only because that was kind of the point of the whole group, was to bring the Florida BB people together in a more social environment that some of us may check more often than here. And yes, it is also to help people recognize faces and connect before going over to see someone at casuals and whatnot because we all know how uneasy some people can be when going to meet someone they only know from screen name on a forum lol. I opened the visibility of the group up for the public, but I'm still limiting requests to join to be approved first just so we don't have non Floridians joining, which once again, the whole point of the group was for the FL people, no offense.

Also, I'm not exactly gung-ho about it or anything. I have a little free time so I decided it'd be helpful/nice to do something that would help the members connect more, even if by a little bit. Seeing as how popular Facebook is and how nearly everyone uses it, and the fact that there's no such thing as a Florida Blazblue Group on there, I figured I would make one. I'm pretty busy with school at the moment and don't have time to make it out to casuals, hell I barely have enough time to play BB at home as it is. I'm no pro at the game, I'm just average, so I suppose I have no credit to do anything here, but I enjoy meeting people and making friends with anyone who's into Blazblue that I can just kick back and chat with. I'd like to think I'm a decently social person once I get to know people, which is one of the reasons I made the FB group.

It seemed like you were against me and everything I did/posted, so I took it slightly offensively. Not trying to give you an attitude or anything, so excuse me if I came off that way.

My mistake on the fact that the link to the Facebook group is in the opening post. I goofed on that.

However, I don't understand what you're going on about in the rest of your post. I was referring to the fact that Florida players that may be new to fighting games completely or have no ties to another game's community will not know of this BlazBlue group. They will most likely default to looking in Match Finder for this thread because they will end up at Dustloop first. Keeping this thread active is going to be the main source of new players as they will shy away from inactivity ("Guess there's no scene..."). The reason a Florida BlazBlue group wasn't created was because there was no need for it as you could do everything that was needed to on here and the rest of the forum. Hell, this is where I talked to all of the Tampa people for the first time and arranged everything (a WHILE ago). Yes, it may seem a bit inconvenient but since this is the hub for a good portion of BB information and communication, most people would have an account and would normally post anyway.

I don't know where you got the notion that I wanted to have a bunch of non-Floridians in the thread/group but that wouldn't make much sense, given that this is the "Match Finder" (Looking for players in your area to battle offline? Jump in here and make some friends and some challenges!) section of the forums. If I wanted to do that, I'd just play them online and post in that section.

This thread has allowed players to meet other people close in the area that play BB and be social. So far, it's fulfilled its' purpose quite well. The FB group does the same thing, however it pulls the traffic and social chatter away from the place it really needs to be. New players won't find the group, they'll discover (or be referred to) this thread and use it to locate others in the area. Secondly, the people on DL are here because of BB/GG, so why the need for a separate group?

Why I like the FB group:

-Easier to separate topics of discussion (only have one thread here)

-Easier to look through player listings to find people near you (be a pain to make a list here and keep it updated)

-Easier to find players PSN/XBL ID to play online games with if wanted (same as previous when people can input themselves)

-Can do polls (can't do here without making new threads)

-Can add people as a friend on FB and start to get closer to them on a personal level (friend system here is useless)

-Can contact some players easier (DL has inbox restrictions)

-Can post nonsense without worry of moderation or site conflict (DL has rules)

I think you are getting too worried that it is taking away from the DL thread. The previous thread was lively and this one has been the same. I personally check both fb and this thread multiple times a day. I bet others do the same. Sometimes the activity here gets cluttered pushing back information or requests people make. It doesn't take long for the thread to enter mini-4ch mode. For me the FB group is a tool to help the community grow. A lot of people use FB as their social media choice for communicating with friends and family. So why not take the friends you meet from the forums and at casuals/tournaments and get to know them better online when you aren't at events? I personally have been able to get to know Azure and ZeroShift much more over the making of the group when they both live a good distance from me. Hopefully as BBCSEX gets closer more people start opening up and I get to know more people on a personal and competitive level. :3

Lol the FB group doesn't even begin to try and take traffic away from here. From the looks of it, this thread is doing more than fine with the group running. There are people who don't have a Dustloop account though, so the group is useful for them. As for the people with no ties that you mentioned, maybe some will one day decide to search "Florida Blazblue" or some sorts on FB and find it, but if not, then they'll have Dustloop.

It all comes down to convenience really. Do they both serve the same purpose? For the most part yes. It's just another source that people can use to connect with other players. For people who aren't on DL (yet) but are on FB, they'll possibly find the group first and eventually everyone there will lead them here. The fact that there are quite a number of posting and chatter going on there right now proves that it's effective and works. The person who is running Storm Underground 4 has a FB AND a DL account, but he rarely posts here, yet is on FB all the time, he advertised the tournament on FB personally a lot, while here we just get random people discussing it.

If people dislike the idea of that group, no one is forcing them to use it. If everyone disapproves of the concept that much, then I'm all ears and I will delete it, so that any traffic that it might have pulled from here will return.
