Vulcan422 Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 As everybody here is aware, I'm sure, the patch for CS2 as well as the PSP/3DS version introduced new dialogue, but some characters had a couple of lines that had completely different VAs. Off the top of my head, here's who got changed (info compiled from various sources, including the BB Wiki and GameFAQs). Noel: Cristina Vee -> Laura Bailey (Makoto Arcade and vs. Makoto) Rachel: Mela Lee -> Laura Bailey (Valk Arcade and vs. Valk) Bang: Tony Oliver -> Steve Kramer (Plat Arcade and vs. Plat) Hazama: Doug Erholtz -> Spike Spencer (Extra Arcade scene where Mu is summoned) Mu: Cristina Vee -> Julie Ann Taylor (Mu Arcade) Just curious, for anybody who has English CSEX, are there any more noticeable sudden changes this time around?
RagnaXBL Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 interesting, didn't even know the VA's were changed, as long as its just a couple of scenes though don't think it will bother me much
AkihikoSanada Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 I do hope the new scenes have the original actors. Not just because of consistency, but also because they were so much better. Laura Bailey's Rachel made my soul die.
Azure Dragonius Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 (edited) I noticed that when I finished Arcade. It's kind of difficult not to notice the VA change in the extra Hazama/Mu scene. I honestly don't like it, especially since Laura Bailey is now GODDAMN EVERYWHERE and Hazama doesn't sound as awesome in the extra scene because of the new VA, but I can deal with it. Regardless, I haven't noticed any other VA changes, as I've only played EXTEND for about two hours. EDIT: The Relius/Hazama pre-fight dialogue in Arcade has the new VA for Hazama, obviously, and Hazama has some character-specific voice clips when fighting Relius, and I think they don't sound half-bad, to be honest. I might grow to like this new Hazama. Edited February 15, 2012 by Azure Dragonius
NickExtreme1 Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 (edited) Check out the Calamity Trigger Reconstruction Story. Hakumen's VA sounds different to me in there. Edited February 15, 2012 by NickExtreme1
Xcele Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 (edited) Check out the Calamity Trigger Recreation Story. Hakumen's VA sounds different to me in there. yeah you're correct Hakumen is way different. He sounds older like he should I guess. Nu-13 was definitely noticeable also. My friend says Jin's voice change though I hear a slight difference. Edited February 15, 2012 by Xcele
Her_Omen Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 I noticed in the Story Mode for Recreation, some lines aren't even Dubbed properly according to the script on the screen and some lines aren't even dubbed but still in Japanese. There were even script errors within the font that showed a few glitched commas here and there. I do not like Hazama's change, I'm glad I don't hear Vee screeching out Noel lines no more, I wasn't too happy with the way Hakumen seemed to sound... I wonder if they changed that for the "Old Man's Tale" scene in his story mode too. I just don't know if those lines could have the same impact they did before if they swapped out VA's for the whole thing.
Demon Wind Bomb Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 Does anybody know why the voices were changed or if the changes will be permanent?
Shiawase Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 Does anybody know why the voices were changed or if the changes will be permanent? I know that the Bang change was because they couldn't get in contact with Tony Oliver in time. Not sure if they are permanent.
Her_Omen Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 Oh yeah, the Bang changeover. That was so obvious in Reconstruction/Recreation(?)... Especially when he burst into the clinic after Litchi took Noel to the Kaka Village.
.:TM:. Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 (edited) Nice job ruining a fairly decent dub Aksys, keep this up and even I, a guy who religiously plays english voices on games like this unless they're unbearable will jump ship. Atleast Relius and Tager were retained, anyone heard Valkenhayn yet? Edited February 16, 2012 by .:TM:.
Kurushii Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 Aksys didn't work on Extends localization. ASW did the whole project. So some of the english voices may not be final for future titles.
.:TM:. Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 Any particular reason known why Aksys didn't do anything?
Kurushii Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 From what AksysGames_Bo told me is that a situation came up. ASW decided to handle the project. Bo said that it's not the norm and to not expect it to happen again for future titles.
AkihikoSanada Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 I sure hope not. I need my BlazBlues to have sufficient amounts of Vee.
Vulcan422 Posted February 16, 2012 Author Posted February 16, 2012 Given the extremely short time frame between the JP and US releases of Extend, maybe ASW decided that they should just translate it themselves to save time and/or trouble.
.:TM:. Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 From what AksysGames_Bo told me is that a situation came up. ASW decided to handle the project. Bo said that it's not the norm and to not expect it to happen again for future titles. It just happened to two titles in a row :U CS2 on handhelds and now Extend. Just sounds like a load of baloney to me. At the moment I see no reason why they won't fuck up the next game too, if ASW just randomly decides to localize it
zephyr07 Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 I'd just like to say the localisation, especially Ragna and valkenhayn, feels off. Especially in the choice of dialogue and voice direction. It seems such a huge leap from cs to extend, it's like the person in charge never played ct and cs before sitting down to do extend.
AkihikoSanada Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 Oh, dear. Is the writing all stiff and non-amazing and hilarious as opposed to how it was in CS? :/ (by that, I mean the writing in CS was amazing and hilarious.)
Vulcan422 Posted February 16, 2012 Author Posted February 16, 2012 It tried pretty hard tp keep the spirit of the original translation but somewhere along the line it's just not the same.
Azure Dragonius Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 (edited) I just heard Bang's new VA. He's not as good as Tony Oliver, of course, but he's acceptable. Laura Bailey's Rachel is utter shit, Vee isn't Noel which automatically makes me hate it, I haven't heard the new Mu, I'm growing to like Hazama, and I think Bang's subordinates have new VAs, too, but I'm not sure about that. EDIT: Forgot Hakumen. He's all right. Might have forgotten a couple others, but I'm not gonna edit this post again. Edited February 17, 2012 by Azure Dragonius
Star-Demon Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 That's a big disappointment. I really liked all of BlazBlue's English VAs, and thought they all did a fantastic job. To see them change is saddening.
Demon Wind Bomb Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 I have a feeling that this isn't a permanent change. The stand ins did an decent job though.
StayFree( ' 3') Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 From what AksysGames_Bo told me is that a situation came up. ASW decided to handle the project. Azure Dragonius Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 There's not really any Engrish in Extend aside from the usual Engrish from the announcers.
