Sorry about the wait guys, but we are locked in for June 9th now so mark your calendars =]

What we'll do on June 9th is yet to be decided but thanks to some inspiration from tenkai, I'm excited to propose a danisen event for Guilty Gear! Since Xie has already done most of the groundwork and ran a season for quite some time, I'll be basing the event off of his experience.

What is a danisen?

A danisen is a ystem where you play for points and ranking and it's been done in Japan for quite some time now. It's a competitive event that happens on a more frequent basis (like weekly or biweekly) and everyone loves a ranking system. Since Guilty Gear is coming out for PS3/360 soon, the time is ripe!

So how do points and ranks work?

Whenever you win a match, you win a point and when you lose a match, you lose a point. Typically whenever you get +3 points you rank up and whenever you are at -3 points you rank down. When you rank up or down, your points will reset to zero. However there is a bottom and you cannot derank further than the lowest rank.

You can only fight players within one rank of yourself. So if you are rank 2, you can fight rank 1 and 3 players but you can't fight a rank 4 player. Your rank is also locked to your character so if you decide to change characters, you have to play at the appropriate rank.

What does a danisen mean for us?

Given the competitive nature of a danisen, it would be silly to only have it every month. Danisens should really be weekly or biweekly so this is more of a commitment. Of course you don't have to come to every danisen but to the community and playerbase as a whole, it's a commitment.

If we were to get behind this danisen event in full force, having a biweekly strictly on Saturdays would probably be difficult so we could have a special event on a monthly basis (e.g. a giant team battle, a single or double elim tourny, a kumite, etc) which is what Xie would do just to mix things up. Of course it would be based on danisen rankings and would affect your rank as well =)

Concluding words

Danisens are awesome but it kind of requires a commitment from the playerbase. If enough people want to get behind this, I say we should make it biweekly and have a mini-dogfight and a regular full-blown dogfight. The regular dogfight will be every third Saturday of the month, will feature another GGAC event in addition to the regular danisen, and will also feature a Gundam EXVS tournament. The off-event or mini-dogfight can be a day everyone agrees on and it doesn't have to be on a Saturday. Let me know what you guys think!

So I guess the next couple NCDs will be a short danisen pre-season before the release of GGAC+R? It's probably best to start fresh with the new game.

Also want to add that danisens sound good to me cause I should be able to come in after work & just jump in.

Hell yeah, Danisen sounds super hype. We still doing it at gamecenter? It's a bit of a drive for me (from San Jose) but maybe we can carpool to save money on gas and stuff.

I agree on a pre-season before GGXXAC+R comes out, and then starting fresh when it's released.

So is this dogfight on the 9th a mini-dogfight/danisen round 1 or is it a full dogfight?

I have another PS3 w/ all DLC unlocked if needed. Either or, I'll be there.

Wasn't sure if I wanted to try to get 2 full setups going again but I wouldn't mind bringing my PS3 either if people wanted to do this.

It'll still be at Gamecenter and it's going to be a full Dogfight but I'll be running the danisen to get data/experience

I have a ps2 and a CRT if needed.

Bring it, the more the merrier. We'll definitely need at least 3 stations and maybe more for danisen.

I'm posting the schedule now but I should've decided it earlier, my apologies.

I want to start Gundam EXVS around 2pm and Guilty Gear danisen around 4pm.

If you show up early you can play casuals and warm up for the events.

Hey guys, should I take the recent no-shows for GG in general as all activities related to Gundam and GG from now on only at Dogfight? I'm left a bit confused since I only see Ernest and Fred there with the KOF/BB additions (Making brackets about a total of 4).

I was meaning to go to the last one but I got sick. In the future I'll be going for KOF/BB, and GG if you guys'll have it, but this is probably just the case for myself and not other people.

It's just been a busy time for everyone in general, the turnout at the first Dogfight was also rather underwhelming and even Ernest and Fred were too busy to make it. I think it's better if we keep Gundam at Dogfight but if the Guilty Gear danisen turns out to be successful and if enough people are willing to come out for it, I would not mind extending the Guilty Gear danisen to NCI as well.

Probably gonna show up to this one for a little while but need to leave for work afterwards. Depends on if the danisen has people and how long it would take.

When do you have work? There will be Guilty Gear all day long probably but I was going to limit the danisen to something like 4~6pm.

I've got a GY shift at like 10-6 but I probably won't show up till like 2 maybe because I'm working the same shift tonight.

I would love to show up tomorrow, but unfortunately, my attendance is entirely dependent upon whether or not Shining Aquas can go, and I have it on good authority that he might have to stay home on Saturday due to some prior commitments.

If you need a ride, you should post your info asap and see if anyone can help. There's also public transit which I'll be taking myself

good stuff yesterday guys, the planning went well and had a good time at this event

thkthkthkthk the villain of Mario party!

as for the danisen it was alright, after a while it got a little stale considering everything went by so fast, and the skill levels have a huge gap for our players (we need more players!)

although the lower level players are fine with it as well it may make newcomers feel discouraged to participate but you never know, the same really goes for a double elimination tournament

was talking with sean a little and my opinion would to maybe do another danisen or something and use the results from this one or two or three to make a big team battle (we had 14 people so we could 7v7) and balance it out equally by skill and have lower players go first on teams and higher skill players are further back on the teamlist

just drafting out some ideas, overall there is a lot of potential for this stuff and it can be really hype.

the amount of setups we had were impressive :)

Thanks for the feedback. I quickly realized that the danisen format is not good for people who just started playing, nothing can really replace long sets of casuals for beginners.

I didn't mention it here but once we've settled in with the danisen and ranks have more or less stabilized, we'll also have events to run alongside the danisen which may or may not use danisen points.

The big team battle is something I've definitely had in mind for a while and definitely something I want to do soon!

What we really need is more sessions and things happening because I know there are players, both seasoned fighters and beginners, who want to play more often than just once or twice a month.

Anyways without further ado, here are the results! Thanks to everyone for coming out and making this possible!

Just wanted to know if we are being ranked by character or by player since I see two people on that list twice. Also, sorry for not making it out. Got owned by the gy shift badly. I'll try to make the next one.

Ranks are tied to your character so if you change characters, it's another entry and you have to fight at the appropriate rank. Also James has a rule in his ranbats regarding multiple characters but I haven't fully decided if I will use it or not.

-You may play multiple characters per day. HOWEVER, if you choose a character, you may not choose another character until you level up or down with that character. The exception is if you are Rank 1 with 0 points, you may switch character whenever you want.

The next one is guaranteed to happen on the third Saturday of July but since it's a danisen I'd like to have one sooner... maybe one in the next three weeks? Need everyone's input on this.

I was gonna say that I suppose the next NCI in four weeks (first Saturday of July) would be OK but that's EVO weekend so I won't be around...

I agree that long sets of casuals would be helpful for newcomers.

So, with that cool head to head and stream setup, maybe we should randomly select one person from the 1 Dan league for a kumite, versus everyone else that happens to be at GameCenter at the time (best 2 of 3 matches) with color commentary, perhaps with someone pointing out where each person is going wrong so they can refer to the stream video later.

I think that would be cool.

We'll call it Nor-Cal Boot Camp.

Actually, there's no new NCI till August. Also we're ditching the first Saturday thing and replacing it with a better in-advance notification system. We'll keep you posted.
