I just got back to playing Guilty Gear after years of having not touched a fighting game and I found something a bit strange with certain characters when it comes to counter measures for certain attacks. I remember 6p working vs air attacks and I read here [http://dustloop.com/guides/ggac/index.html] that it gave upper body invincibility.

I've found that whilst this works for most characters, there are some where I still end up getting hit without a counter. Doing it vs Ky's Greed Sever (214k) seems to do nothing as I still get hit by it. Are there certain moves which cancel out these things? I also found that sometimes I try and block dust(d) moves I still get hit (mostly just vs Venom).

I just wanted clarification on what the moves are which give temp upper or lower invincibility vs other attacks. Also, i'm looking for people to play with on PC #Reload and BBCT

In general when they say "upper body invincibility" what it actually means is their hitbox only covers their legs. This does not make them 100% immune to all airborne attacks - if the hitboxes connect, you still get hit. As for Dust, the only reason it would hit you while blocking is if you accidentally stopped blocking too early, or switched to low block. All standing Dust attacks are overheads, even if they don't look like it.

I don't know what character you play, so I'll just show you a character I know. This is Potemkin's 6P.

If you have an attack that reaches that hitbox at his legs, you'll still hit, no matter where it came from. Greed Sever reaches low enough that a poorly-timed 6P will still get hit.

Check this board for #R netplay stuff. For BBCTPC you can try this board but I doubt you'll get much interest.

thanks. I use Bridget and Jam for the most part. I didnt know that dust was upper body, i was crouching when i was blocking so thats why. As for countering Kys greed sever, im still not sure what you mean =\

i understand that the bottom portion of the character can be hit but dont all air attacks start by hitting upper body? His greed sever animation shows as if it hits high then low as it arcs around but I usually 6p right as he begins the animation (when the first hit should be upper body) and I still get hit.

If you're getting hit, you're getting hit - there's no reasoning with the game engine. Clearly the hitbox isn't as good as you think it is (or GS's is better than you think it is). Vary your timing until you find one that works. If you throw out 6P too early you'll lose the upper body invulnerability right around the time he's hitting you, so try delaying it. Or use a better counter.

likelihood is greed severs hit box passes through invulnerable portion of your 6P and hits your character where they're still vulnerable.

chances are, if you're trying to 6P on reaction, you're reacting late, and the greed sever reaches the lower body "hurtbox" before the 6P is active.

edit: just block it, it's hella negative. if you can see it and attempt to 6P, just IB it instead and punish him. depending on resources you have available (especially if you're playing Jam), punishing him for the ground combo is probably a better reward than a 6P anti air combo anyway.

What BBQ Sauce said is pretty true. Also Jam's 6P isn't actually her best anti-air, but you can use it to go through attacks like Ky's f.S. Try using her c.S or 2H to anti-air more, they seem more reliable.

What you should be doing against obvious overheads like that though is parrying. Only Jam can do this, but from a neutral position quickly press back then forward as the attack is about to it. Jam will slap the attack away and a green flash will appear. Check the Jam wiki guide for more information on this. A little off topic, but I hope it helps!
