Can't switch from Stylish mode to Technical

I got a friend of mine into getting Blazblue Continuum Shift:Extend.

He's got the problem that whenever he is in character selection screen in online play the mode automatically switches from "technical" to "stylish"(beginner) mode.

This mostly happens when there are 20 seconds left to choose a character. He said he couldn't change the mode using the assigned Fn1 Button.

He really wants to play technical and said that he could use it in training/challenge mode.

I hope that someone can help us here.

You should be able to just manually select Technical/Stylish by moving the character select cursor onto it and hitting confirm; unless the game doesn't let you do that either. That sounds odd.
