Persona is back for another week at WNF! 8/29/12

If you have any questions or comments feel free to post them here or shoot me a message on twitter.

I am Frank Reyes, the Level|Up community representative for non-Capcom fighting games. As a stream producer, I continuously work to bring extended exposure to these games. With Person 4 Arena coming out soon, Level|Up would like to host a title release tournament and exhibition featuring the game at our weekly event, Wednesday Night Fights (WNF).

If you are interested in supporting the Persona 4: Arena release please come out to this event. This one of the ways at Level|Up we do to gauge interest/support of fighting game titles. The more people that show up and participate in the tournament/casuals means we can do bigger and better things for you guys!

As expected, I'll be there. I hope you guys will all come out in full force to show support!

I'm a little bit sad it's not at TRB instead (since there's some overlap between Marvel and P4A players), but maybe that's actually for the best logistics wise?

Im EC so i cant make it, but I will stream monster! Hope it gets a turnout!

Great to hear this. Wish I wasn't stuck in the East Coast so I could go, but I'll be sure to tune in.

As for navigators, I'm hoping that the standard becomes them being soft-banned. If both players don't care about them, then it doesn't really matter, but if someone requests for them to be turned off during character select, they should be turned off. They don't really affect the game at all (outside of partially obscuring Persona cards sometimes), but they are really annoying.

Me and Eiji will be there for p4u

James please let me know if you guys will play p4u during this weekend. And I probably setup a p4u for free play at Orbit Comics this weekend.

For Navigators,if it's in English I must say no,if Japanese I will say yes.

Awesome news! :] I'm sure i can catch a ride with Odd03 that day to go! (If you're reading this David, let's go!) Can't wait to play with everyone!

If I can get a ride to this I'm definitely willing to go, never been to WNF either so that's another good reason. If anyone from the Six Flags area is going please PM me.

I would love to head out and support the scene, but I have no ride. If anyone near Lakewood would help me out with that, PM me. Otherwise, I'll be stream monstering for sure.

I'll be streammonsterin' since I'm on the other side of the US :(

I don't think competitive players will really care if they're on or not, if given the choice I think most could prefer them off but its also hard to really enforce them in large scale events since you have to beat Arcade Mode first to be able to turn them off first (most consoles don't even have anything besides whatever the base disc gives us upon playing it for the first time).

Shoutouts to getting baited and missing out on the Persona finals with all the other stream monsters. I'm really salty as a Kanji player now that The Biter finally WON, and it wasn't recorded. Good stream outside of that, other than the swarming shitswamp of what's called a stream chat of fighting game players... I was really impressed with some of your gameplay though, keep it up guys.

I'm mostly salty towards myself for not being there to see finals live. I shouldn't have let a headache stop me from coming. 1/3 turnout yeah. Has the hype already died? Will people outside of the dustloop community keep playing this game at all? I feel like a bunch of hotheaded Marvel players are trying to bring down the hype as much as possible, either out of fear or just straight up disrespect towards us/our games. I don't know what to do about it. I think as a community we should take a stand and basically say "Hey, shut the fuck up." but how?

I mean we would of course love to see P4A on main stage at Evo and we want to see tournaments thrive after the first week, but we have to step up now more than ever, and at this point it feels like we actually have a chance.

There's no sensing hoping that P4U will do well if you don't come out and convince all your friends to come out. If you did what you can to show up and get your friends to show up, and it STILL does poorly, no one is really at fault there. But really, a game relies on its players more than anything else and it is meant for entertainment, so please just do what you can and nothing more.

But to be honest, P4U still had more entrants than AE2012 (albeit by 1). If we can consistently stay around 30~40 on a Wednesday night, I really don't think there is any problem with the longevity of the game. Wednesday at 9PM is honestly a tough time to make it, so I'm not surprised if players end up playing more towards a more accessible time or venue.

So yeah, come out guys! I want to play with you lol.

I think some ppl already given up... Most of them don't know how to play this game and they were killed by the ppl who know combo and okizeme. They were trying to get used to it but didn't even have a chance. Then "fxck this game" "fxck this character"... If I didn't even win 1 game, why do I have to come here again and waste my $10? We should make a tutorial for our newcomers just like some Japanese arcade. I think they really like this game becasuse they like persona.

If a couple of us got together and made an awesome video tutorial that would probably rekindle a few flames. As much as I loved watching 2 hours of James, Chen and UltraDavid talk about and play Persona it's not really a 'tutorial' it's more of a character explanation guide. It would be great to have each character's segments broken up and then uploaded to seperate videos for easy reference.

In our tutorial we could go over different movement options, air dasher footsies, what to do on wake-up both offensively and defensively, using proper spacing and why you shouldn't mash, committing to anti-airs, stuff like that. I feel like we could get a lot of information out there in a 20-30 minute window, or even less, and it would basically be the go-to guide for people interested in this game. We make it friendly, we make it hype, and help everyone who's never played a game like this tremendously.

Perhaps we could have someone with a lot of Capcom experience to talk about how differently the games play and why, despite all the shit talkers, it's still a really good game. I would like to help out however I could and I have a few ideas to throw around but I'm sure if just a small group got together and brain stormed beforehand we could have a great introductory guide to P4A. To save possible time and hassle I'd suggest that we try and do this at the next Super Arcade event but it might end up being more hassle that way, I can't really say. We could always go in on a console casuals Friday night and set something up that way.

I'll continue to support the scene as consistently as possible, I think these games are a lot of fun to watch and play, and I hope this game stays strong.
