MikelAL93 Posted August 7, 2012 Posted August 7, 2012 (edited) Discuss the matchup between Yukiko and Naoto here. Matchup Summary Yukiko's Tools Her 5B/2B/JB Fans: Dia: Agi and Maragi: Naoto's response to them Her 5B/2B/JB Fans: Dia: Agi and Maragi: Naoto's Tools Yukiko's response to them The verdict of this matchup Edited September 16, 2012 by MikelAL93
SolarMisae Posted August 16, 2012 Posted August 16, 2012 So who's zoning wins in this matchup? When Naoto spams sniper shots from full screen I either block and wait till she realizes I'm not getting hit by that or slowly jump in towards her and try to catch her before another reload. It's reminding me of jumping in against Lambda swords. So is this the tactic I should be using or should I just stay away from her?
Phrekwenci Posted August 18, 2012 Posted August 18, 2012 I just played a match online and I have no idea how Naoto started this up, but all of a sudden I was in an untechable corner loop and was killed in 34 hits. Then I received a message from my opponent stating "this game is azzzzzzzzzzzzz" and I truly believe him.
aRBy Posted August 18, 2012 Posted August 18, 2012 Not sure about high level play, but so far in my limited experience in this matchup, there really isn't anything Naoto can do to Yukiko from long range. You can use Dia to counter Aim/Snipe and her Burst Shot supers until the Naoto realizes that they need to be up close since the gunshots are easy to telegraph so you can recover quickly enough to not get punished. And her 5D can be seen from a mile away. Until I'm proven otherwise, Naoto is the one that has to come to Yukiko to win.
SolarMisae Posted August 19, 2012 Posted August 19, 2012 Yeah, Naoto has to rush her down to do anything, Dia shuts down all of her zoning. (I only JUST recently learned about Dia's projectile invul. ) With that, this matchup looks annoying for Naoto.
Warhound Posted August 19, 2012 Posted August 19, 2012 Oh yay. I get to try and shut out more rushdown zombies.

I couldn't believe it.

It resets her proration mid combo and since we have low health its very dangerous so watch out. I dont know the actual starters though. (I hate to sound like a prick) If you play the matchup properly she will never be able to do it seeing how Naoto will always be TRYING to get in and not ACTUALLY in your face. So who's zoning wins in this matchup? It's reminding me of jumping in against Lambda swords. So is this the tactic I should be using or should I just stay away from her? This works. Also if she isnt trying to shoot you out the sky, throw in a j.D or 2. What i do is make her realize that her only option is to run in, and then punish her for doing so.
choysauce Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 i actually feel that this match is in naoto's favor, you can't use the typical 3D Oki setup after a knockdown due to her counter (unless you want to bait that to get in closer) if you get into the air she will outzone you, your fans do nothing against her. you can only hope that you've knocked them down from full screen and use B agi. her rushdown is more powerful due to her crazy powerful combos. so what's the answer? i believe you have to stay mid distance against her. where she is scared to use her gun stance but not in range to poke. at this range you can utilize fans and rush her down or poke with your persona. gotta keep her locked down in the corner and bait her reversals.
IllogicalDreamr Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 Agreed about mid-range. Though it's possible for her to play mind games with shooting direction and even faking not shooting at all my retracting the stance, but it's less safe for her to try shooting you anyway. Far away she can shoot at you all day. I was a victim of someone spamming bullets and I couldn't really find a good way to get in. I've seen videos of Himajin using 2A to crouch under bullets instead of blocking them.
grantchno Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 If Naoto's really obvious about bullets you can do jumping 3C to land behind her into a fatal counter SB agi maragi loop combo for big dmg.. If she does her reversal super and you 5d your persona will take the first bullet and you can block/punish accordingly..
choysauce Posted September 19, 2012 Posted September 19, 2012 (edited) not sure if this is known, but you can low profile naoto's counter with 2A unless i'm mistaken. i've done 2A's in her face when the counter retaliates and i wasn't hit. so i think it's low profile, unless there's a minimum distance for any of her counters? also question. how does her IK work??? no clue what to do against it *edit* i didn't know naoto had 2 different followups to her counter. so people have just been auto piloting the incorrect one on me Edited October 16, 2012 by Choysauce85

Her counters are a tactic they use to answer our fans. I notice that Maragi can slip under them too. As for her IK, basically, it activates and then depending on what direction they press when they use it, a certain pattern of reticules appear. I don't know of a reliable way to avoid it, I think you just have to be lucky not to have one pop up right on top of you, or have good enough reflexes to get out of the way. But basically if you touch any one of those reticules, it's game over for you. If you aren't in one, good, just kind of stay there, maybe scooch over half an inch or two, because the reticules tend to "float" a little. Could hit the lab and see if there's a consistent pattern in which the reticules pop up, then it's just a guessing game from there.
Ryd' Posted September 19, 2012 Posted September 19, 2012 Dia through her IK, enjoy getting around half your health back and probably making the Naoto player go blue in the face for paying 100sp to let you recover (twice as sweet if you were in awakening when it happened). Alternatively, you could just try to position yourself to avoid the crosshairs and go for a punish when it ends.

Senovit Posted September 19, 2012 Posted September 19, 2012 Dia is the most reliable way, but if you're persona broken the best place to be is a little in front of Naoto. Just sit still and don't move out of that position, I believe no crosshairs will spawn directly in front of her.

I need to fight that Naoto again...
Ryd' Posted September 19, 2012 Posted September 19, 2012 The sweet spot is somewhere between 1-2 character spaces in front of Naoto. Somewhere around sweep's tip range iirc.
Setz206 Posted October 20, 2012 Posted October 20, 2012 (edited) Ok, I am still very scrubby at this game, but i have a question, what can i do vs DP spam happy naotos? I cant use my fans, cant use my 3D oki, I really have no answer for it, the DP even counters maragidyne. Other than trying to bait the DP, I really am at a loss to what to do. Even if I do bait the DP, from what I understand isn't yukiko's game plan heavily based on oki? which is negated by the DP? Edited October 20, 2012 by Setz206
Ciddypoo Posted October 21, 2012 Posted October 21, 2012 You can duck under the shot with 2a, or just be in the air when the DP shot fires off. It's not nearly as aggravating as Yosuke's.
