So I was going to post about how FGs made my life better and taught me about attitude and patience and determination and gave me motivation to go on vacation for once and led me to meet tons of cool people

But then I read this thread

Fuck you guys :(

I used to play BB just for shits since no one knew what it was. When I got to college I met some people my second year through Smash Bros. that were playing fighters like P4A, which is when I first played on a fight stick. Only game I ever played competitively was Smash, so I wanted to change the pace and learn a different game. I bought and modded my own stick and got into P4A, but rediscovered my love for BB through picking up Extend. There's now a group of people through school that I can practice with. A little late to the Extend game, but I'm really excited for CP and trying to get competent enough in Extend that I could find some local tournaments to compete in. GG is cool but there's a dude that we all pretty much hate who exclusively plays that and hates basically every other fighter ever, especially BB and P4A, so that kinda ruined it for me. I still think GG is cool for what it is but that kinda killed the motivation to want to play.

Seein' a lot of hate for Smash in this thread, haha. Oh well, that's to be expected I guess.

Camalange? Hot damn! What's goin' on!

In all seriousness, though, none of these games have had any sort of impact on my life. At least not yet. The only real negative effect is, like many others here, I have a giant backlog of games I need to finish, such as MGS HD Collection and Mass Effect.

No one needs to finish Mass Effect.

To me FGs are the first genre that I've truly wanted to analyze and take to the next level. I've played other games competitively but mainly just for casual fun.

Oh shit! Yo dude! I was just on SB, haha. I'll message you!

I have to completely cosign to the backlog of games. All my friends that don't play fighters hate me for still not beating the new Tomb Raider. Also, fighters make me either really happy or incredibly pissed off, so there's that.

They made me realise that my sense of time is non existant, that my eye-finger coordination is more abysmal than a bottomless trap hole, how easily i get panicked and my complete absence of ability to think clearly in dangerous situations and how anxious i get over small things.

In other words, BB taught me how much of a sorry excuse of a human i am.

Dustloop is really my first venture into the online/anime/FG community, so until now I hadn't known of a place where people openly appreciate hawt anime girlz. Everyone else seems to think its weird to have boners for females.

Shoutouts to hot avatars: not_lunaris, legacy edge, camalange, HiagoX, and Setsuna (Oriemo, yeah!)

Haha I never really understood the stigma to it either. Like, if a female is attractive, whether she's 2D or not, they're still attractive. Like, they're intentionally designed to be. I just don't discriminate ;)

why not mine

Yours goes without saying, of course.

BB also made me realize that the majority of almost every online community is filled with it's share of trolls, ragequitters and other sorts of unsavory people that have serious issues.

Amazing isn't it.

To be serious, BB got me legit into fighters again after I was getting bored of and wondering why I was playing Brawl. It gave me something I enjoyed, let me also enjoy games that I probably wouldn't have otherwise played in P4A, TTT2, and even partly Injustice. Plus, I actually met a bunch of friends through it and all that good stuff. Though the amusing irony is I found BB via Brawl back when CT came out.

In addition to a lot of other stuff people have said (Made friends, rekindled interest in fighting games in general), I've also probably gotten better at thinking because of GG and fighting games in general. I'd argue GG has taught me both to think before I act more often, and also has made me better at understanding what other people might be thinking, or at least trying to think about it, at a given time.

Arc Sys fighting games have taught me that normals can combo into specials that can combo into normals that can combo into specials that can combo into double supers.

Well, I became interested in GG because someone from college had a copy of GGXX, so I'd play that with other people who lived in my dorm. Got interested in BB because I saw an article on Kotaku. :psyduck: Bought the game, went on DL. Then I met some shady people at Safeway and they turned out to be pretty great friends.

After having zero prior year GG type game experience, BB allowed me to learn something new and get good at it then make my friends quit yet another game they asked me to learn. Well I have been playing fighters since sf and it helped me to meet a lot of interesting people that I can safely call an extended family. It allowed me to meet better players and increase in skill through rivalries and it also allowed me to discover that there are other players like me that are special in terms how we perceive and adapt in gameplay.

Wow...this sounds exactly like my group of friends. once I get better than them at a game they stop playing and never want to play it again. It's all fine and dandy when they have more experience and are beating me to a pulp, but as soon as I figure them out they quit.

Video games have taught me that most people don't want to put any effort into anything and like to run away from anything difficult......The sad part is that they could easily become good if they just put the tinyest amount of effort in,

which would make the game MORE fun for everyone involved.
