WT_Neptune Posted December 2, 2014 Posted December 2, 2014 Can Eddie be played on pad? I played Carl with R1 as drive, so can I hack it the same way with Eddie?
www.keeponrock.in Posted December 2, 2014 Posted December 2, 2014 With Eddie, you're going to have to be very comfortable with holding up to 3 buttons at a time and releasing any of them in any order at will. If you are comfortable with executing things like: 66>2K,-P- xN, where -P- means releasing the shadow's P attack, and 2P>2K>22S, -K- Then you can probably tough it out. I would suggest trying out a few layouts, possibly all buttons on triggers, or reducing the number of face buttons to 2 or 3. Remember, Latif used to play Eddie on a pad and that didn't stop him from being a beast.
Mr.Biscuits Posted December 2, 2014 Posted December 2, 2014 You can play pad Eddie if you mess around with button binds. Just map slash as a shoulder button for example. You don't have to hold down 3 buttons for anything Practical. The only time that would ever come up is if you rc/yrc something and even then that's not a big deal if you have RC mapped to a single button. Even stick players should consider mapping rc to a single button to abuse YRC burst bait os.
WT_Neptune Posted December 2, 2014 Posted December 2, 2014 Oh, sweet. I could get over negative edging if it isn't stupid complicated. And I already play BB awkwardly, with R1 as my drive for Jin, and X as my Barrier/CT button. So I could get down with the RC button shenanigans.
Mr.Biscuits Posted December 2, 2014 Posted December 2, 2014 Yeah just go with what you're comfortable with. Speaking of Latif, When he switched to pad he still played an unorthodox button layout to make things easier for him.
WT_Neptune Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 Well I should just get comfy here, since I'll be here for a while.
Mr.Biscuits Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 I'll be streaming Zato training mode + Netplay tonight Twitch.tv/mr_biscuits stream will start around 5PM with Video review and note taking. Edit! And I'm live!
WT_Neptune Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 1) I'd like to be added to the Eddie chat. 2) What are Little Eddie's most common buttons?

president Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 Regarding the new unblockable loop in the corner: linking a mawaru into a jump, low airdash j.s is actually the hardest part of the entire thing. I'm being really inconsistent at it but I figured out the key to that sequence is to do a raw 236H summon and wait with -K- release as much as possible during the wallstick crumple, so Zato has time to recover from the summon. Any other impressions on this part? A way to make it easier? An alternative route to go into wallstick off 5D6 crumple -> mawaru? 2) What are Little Eddie's most common buttons? All of them. -P- moves the shadow into position while being mostly invulnerable. it also fills zatos gaps while consuming the least eddie bar. if there's not much setup time to get out -K- right away something like -P- 22S/H -K- can start your offense. -K- has the obvious benefit of massive blockstun duration and corner carry, use this to run your mixup. -S- is similar to a shoryuken in neutral, thing comes with some invulnerability once the active frames start. use this to keep people off you / make them block. it's really not limited to just being an anti-air, although it's godlike at it. -H- is a new thing for xrd and i'm really not sure, it feels like an extended version of -P- except no hitbox. Use this to avoid the shadow getting killed by something like a defensive super. -D- is your staple combo move and where all your damage comes from, run unblockable setups with this.
WT_Neptune Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 Well then, can you guys help me brainstorm for helpful keybinds for this character? I constantly accidentally do shadow S and it is awful. It is somewhat intimidating. So far, I have P for square, S for triangle, HS for circle, K for R1 and D for L1. Also, what was the old shadow H? Was that the cannonball overhead? Is this a major nerf?
www.keeponrock.in Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 The old shadow H has been moved to shadow D and the old shadow D was the cannonball overhead in AC and the dolphin overhead in #R. It is not a major nerf. As for keybinds, I would suggest using X, Square, R1, R2 and L1 as your main buttons. The main reason being, it should be easier to hold X and square at the same time, since they are in line with your thumb and using R2 means you can always have your thumb hovering over both buttons. Just for the sake of easy transition to stick, I would bind them as P->X, K->Square, R1->Slash, R2->Heavy Slash, L1->Dust. This is all preference though, but I've provided a concrete example in case you just want to make a decision. You can always experiment. -P- moves the shadow into position while being mostly invulnerable. Can somebody confirm this? I thought that it was only invulnerable in AC.
TheLoneMortal Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 Yeah, -P- does not have any invulnerability in Xrd.
www.keeponrock.in Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 As far as a primer on the shadow, WT_Neptune, you should check out Poon's #reload Eddie guide. http://www.dustloop.com/forums/index.php?/topic/1791-eddie-in-reload-poons-guide/ Many of the concepts carry over and you should be able to gain some insight into what kind of mindset you should have while playing Zato-1.
president Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 Yeah, -P- does not have any invulnerability in Xrd. My bad. Makes sense that they removed it now that we have a BTL for Eddie though.

It seems like I would have to segment my thumb on presses, but we will see. Haha, that is the page I've had up for like four days now. I've been watching the Guilty Bits vid on Eddie as well repeatedly, as well as looking at this following video... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9MvSe_zb5T0
xXavierx Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 I just picked up Zato too and found this pretty helpful: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DaLXyvw6284 part 2 is linked in the description.
poon Posted December 5, 2014 Posted December 5, 2014 Fucking christ im going to have to read my own stupid Eddie guide as part of finally learning this garbage character
Synyster17 Posted December 5, 2014 Posted December 5, 2014 the best thing u can do to help learn zato is training mode and watching Owaga.
WT_Neptune Posted December 5, 2014 Posted December 5, 2014 the best thing u can do to help learn zato is training mode and watching Owaga. I like get what I need to do. It's just a matter of learning how to press buttons right and learning bnbs.
Synyster17 Posted December 5, 2014 Posted December 5, 2014 I like get what I need to do. It's just a matter of learning how to press buttons right and learning bnbs. biscuit's said that he will help people out with that after NEC. that is when he will make the threads.
Mr.Biscuits Posted December 5, 2014 Posted December 5, 2014 Don't worry about combos just yet. Focus on neutral and utilizing his new tools. I'll try my best to put down combos once I return from NEC.
WT_Neptune Posted December 5, 2014 Posted December 5, 2014 I've been doing pretty well with the neutral, but it has been mostly shadowless. And online, it is hard to buzzsaw airdash broken j.k properly, but the flipside of that is that I can set up the buzzsaw in situations that I shouldn't be able to. I'm trying to get used to knockdown shadow summon as well. Edit: Are all the OG Zatos having any difficulties adjusting or are they just resuming running the bullshit?
