Omfg. i love Chaos. But can i ask one thing?

 

 can someone explain to me why Chaos is so low in the tier? I played as him last week at the london comic con and I was doing work on people that have played this game before/imported it. granted, I have played my fair share of BB and GG and skullgirls and P4A, I was new to this game and used chaos first. I got destroyed on my first game but as I was learning him I found him enjoyable to use and plan to main him if I import/wait for the ENG version. sure, he lacks a decent overhead and reversal but compensates with the presure of Azi Dahaka in 90% of his combos. Gordeau/merkava players were not that hard to beat too, as I could tell what most of their moves did (50% research). but i digress, can someone PLEASE tell me why Chaos is so low? I think hes atleast low B tier becuase of his sheer pressure he does with azhi, but thats my opinion.

 

I understand some of his matchups are very difficult (Fuck you, Waldstein) but when you play chaos to a good point i think he is atleast NOT trash.

 

but like i said i only played this game for like 4-5 hours per the 3 days it was in comic con, so could someone explain it to me?

Honestly I wouldn't be complaining if they just gave Chaos the ability to force sandwich guarding to compensate for his lacking tools. Despite what non-believers say Chaos is still winning tier, but I can't help but to get mad at French Bread the way the decided on (or rather, omitted) this character's mechanics.

 

Also, what's with this trend of newcoming characters becoming low tier?

BBCP did it first with Amane, then UNiEL with Chaos and Akatsuki, P4U2 with Ken (and certain shadow characters), DFC with Taiga...who's next? Sin, Elphelt in Xrd, or possibly both?

I mostly play offline with couple of friends. Cuz our connection is horrible.

ah, but i swear someone said the net play was really decent (Better than most anime fighters). But never the less, can you, mysterious chaos man, tell me what you do as chaos vs waldstein? the matchup is so annoying... i try n space n zone him but he has like no hurtboxes, and his long range grabs always screw me over, both in gameplay and in hp. help? o-o

also, is his bread and butter combo 5A > 5B > 5C > 236A > 236B > 214A? i was wondering, or is it like a basic combo?

Theres only one Chaos combo that you really need ever:

5A > 5B > 2C > 5CC > j.B > j.C > j.2C > 2C > 6C > 236A > 236B > 623A > 623B

Thats the core Chaos combo. Everything else can derive from this in some way.

P.S in terms of netplay. Its still -relatively- active. But much slower in comparison to how it was at launch. I can still consistently get matches, its just you have to pick an hour of the day where everyones on.

tell me what you do as chaos vs waldstein? the matchup is so annoying... i try n space n zone him but he has like no hurtboxes, and his long range grabs always screw me over, both in gameplay and in hp. help? o-o

Wald's arms aren't hittable until he attacks with them (a lot of sword characters in other games work like this), so you need to keep that in mind when zoning him out. His 360a range is pretty bad actually, and while 360b has massive range, it's always a gold grab, so remember to watch out for that and tech it if wald decides to just do it. If wald is trying to do jump charge C, shielding it will still leave wald plus so it's better to try and air-to-air him. J.b would be a great normal to use, but in my experience it loses more often than wins, so you probably wanna settle for j.a. Wald isn't so scary once you start pressuring him, just keep the command grab in mind. You can bait it out with assault really easily, or with 66b/5bb if you wanna get fancy (they have throw invun for a bit, it's weird and hard to actually use, but it looks cool)

If you look back through the thread you'll probably find some set-up and combo stuff. Or you could just keep asking. Also if you tweet at me I'll respond because I have literally nothing better to do than talk about UNiB.

From what ive heard and played

- hold a button a to make azhi closer to waldstein and zone him with 236a > 623a (not a lot of psople will know how to punish that blockstring, cuz azhi can recover really quickly)

- If you they try to dash into you use 6c to stop it, but use it at your own risk, cuz its really punishable.

(Btw you can cancel whiff 6c into any super)

- once you get a knockdown go for oki/meatie mix-up. Because some waldstein will try to mash 360 Just like in the video he just posted.

- try to hit his claw when his whiffing some moves (like he said, sword characters can be hit on the sword while active)

Other than that... footsies/experience/fundementals. Practice the match up with someone and you should be good.

Please let me know if I made any typos, dont really have time to proof read atm. Also I dont state it, but make sure youre not letting Chaos ground bounce when hes not supposed to. For example,  236C causes a ground bounce at the end, but you want to pick them up before that in most cases. Combo 6 doesnt work if you dont do this.

ahh, THATS why i couldnt get it to land! thanks, so far the combos work, some of them are 50/50, but it think thats cuz of my slow input

Yuzu shuts down a lot of chaos's tools, you cant really roll in neutral vs her and her sword zones out chaos really easily. If you can get azhi close you can threaten to whiff punish her, if she tries to run away from him you can tag her with 236a/b. If you can start pressure on her its really hard for yuzu to get out since her only reversals are veil off and infinite worth.

Vs vatista make sure to shield j.c it'll stop her from canceling into her overhead. 6cing her fireballs is good, but watch out for laser. When doing frame traps try to figure out when they have a flash kick charged, it can make it easier to bait.

Eltnum has amazing air normals and an air grab so shes really hard to air to air. Also her overhead cant be hit by chaos's crouching normals, so 5b it or something. Also gunshot is mad fast, watch out.

Your assaults have to be kind of deep for the combo to work, if youre assaulting from full distance you won't get the combo in most cases, so watch out. Same principle apply for any other crouching confirm. 

Ive also theorized that you should use [Azhi attack > 2A whiff > micro dash > next Azh attack > repeat] to get some distance on your opponent. Only problem is that if your opponent doesn't respect it, they can very easily hit Azhi. You can stlll try to frame trap with like 236C or something just because its really fast though.

Oh and you can do Azhi combos from full screen even if you whiff 2As between every attack:

Oh and you can do Azhi combos from full screen even if you whiff 2As between every attack:

236A > 2A > 236B > 2A > 623A > 2A > 623B > 2A > 214A

Its useless but kinda fun I guess.

Nope its an air chain. Theres no rejumping, youre in the air for the entire duration.

Don quote me on this, but i think i found an effective blockstring combo for chaos:

5AAAAAA (auto combo) >5BB > 2B > 5C >2C > 5A (whiff) >6D > J.2C 5AAAAAA> 2C > 5A (whiff)

From there you can 6D and rinse n repeat or add a 236A somewhere or you can back out and zone with azhi, i find it pretty effective but i've only tested it in the lab and on cpu's so dont quote me on this.
