He read the wake up incorrectly. First time he got punished, second time nu's aa whiff so he was ok.

I think there's some misunderstanding here. My point is that once 5B pops the Nu off the ground, wakeup is irrelevant, you can 5C then air combo.

Are you saying that Ren didn't expect the 5B to land (it wouldn't if Nu neutral teched), and jumped up out of habit? I'm not sure that this is the case, but it's definitely plausible.

It seems to me that he's attempting some sort of reset.

This makes some sense in the first case because the 5B kept the combo counter going, albeit dark (meaning Nu delayed her tech?). He might have expected something like this to happen, and so rather than attempt a combo that may permit Nu to escape the corner, he attempted to reset into a fresh combo and keep her there.

It makes less sense in the second case because the 5B launcher began a fresh combo, but perhaps that just represents the difficulty in hitconfirming a single 5B hit.

it looks to me like the first time he jumped after the 5b was a mistake. the second time however (2:58) i think he wanted them to tech so that he could continue j.b pressure with (maybe) some of the whif j.a stuff. he may also have just messed up the second time. i think he may have expected the same result he had the first time and when he didnt get that, he dropped the combo/pressure.

That's what I was saying. Basically, he wanted to do a meaty 5b (probably anticipating a regular quick tech), and it landed instead of whiffing.

In most situations, landing that 5b is the same as catching a roll. However, since the hit counter did not reset, nu can tech significantly faster, so there was no way he was going to keep comboing. But I am guessing he jumped because he recognized the hit, but then realize the hit counter didn't reset, so did not bother sticking out ja.

You can't forcefully reset a combo in that situation. The only time you can get a combo reset is if they just don't tech at all for whatever reason.

There are a lot of new Jin videos in Gamechariot... just thought I'd say. Who's that black Jin by the way? I'm pretty sure it's not Buppa, since the Japanese symbols don't match. God, I need to learn japanese.

The ending of Dennou vs Gucci http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oz4M2vTiWnk left me feeling so dirty.

Edit:

Suupuu vs Dio http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q9YuCdMNPxU, at 1:02 Suupuu throws out a naked 214D.

I assume that he's using it as a counter poke, predicting that Dio walked forward to do something.

Why 214D instead of the safer 5D? Is it because of the damage potential off landing 214D into the corner, is that worth the meter (and risk)?

Or is there something else going on?

I'm going to guess frame trap. Dio may be expecting 5D (at that distance that is the correct thing to do), so if dio tried to IB, he would get nailed (which is what happened). Note that I have no idea if that's what he was thinking, or perhaps he saw something else. I could be blowing smoke out of my ass. Regardless, that is a extremely dangerous thing to do against carl (free loop).

Tournament video of Tetsu v Jin held at GC on 8/12/09. Sorry if it's been seen already but just saw it uploaded on this guy's account (and he updates asap) and just watched it. Plus this thread needs some new vids.

Ren is definitely the most offence oriented Jin player; I would put him near the top since he worked on his defense since the last GC tournament.

Really? i thought Buppa was the super Offense oriented Jin.. It's weird..i can pull off some the things i see Ren do now..but the stuff Buppa, Pozerwolf and stunedge do blows my mind. Anyone got any HQ vids i can watch (preferably download) of Stunedge and Pozerwolf.

Watch Tetsu stuff as well. I found out my play style is a lot like his, just not as stable. I also have improved my pressure game A LOT just by watching those. There are some amazingly creative things there, as well as frame traps like 6D > 6D > 5C > 2D > ... Pretty cool (no pun intended).

Yes watching them is an educational experience lol...the ones i learn the most from was Buppas, Pozerwolfs and Tetsu's (who i saw bplay before but didn't know his name).

lol, I just noticed I put "Tetsu v Jin" on my first sentence up there. Ren is just THE Jin.

Also, what's with the "Tetsu?" thing? Is it just him playing with a different colour?
