why a lighter? an exacto knife would have done the job just fine. try cleaning the board a bit with isporpynol alcohol and a cotton swab and see if you didn't burn off the pads
-
madcatz fightpad would be the easiest choice for it as no trigger inversion or extra work u sure you fried it though?

most of that you can get in a radioshack/circuit city. The ethernet stuff you'll only need the crimper and there's a wire stripper/crimper for quick disconnects at radio shack but none for ethernet where i live. 24 mm forster/hole saw will prly cost you more than some of the stuff you have. they're pretty expensive in retail so order them from the internet

first off, you're using too much solder. Secondly you're shorting a connection (actually 2) in the TE board. Thirdly, you MUST CONNECT THE GROUND WIRE. You do not use the Sground wire. it is not a ground connection in the USB. You need the ground wire there in the GND hole not the SGND as that SGround is acutally just wire sheilding Try to use less solder http://s924.photobucket.com/albums/ad88/mr_mortified/?action=view¤t=hhh005.png red is where i can see shorting, disconnect the solder between the areas and use less solder in general

its plry not hte screw that messed up but the plastic where the screw held on to. so you're gonna have to do sometthing to fill in that hole where the screw was and insert the screw again
-
lol fun stuff, that's why when screwing down or screwing out, always go slow so you don't pull up the threads. Go get some teflon tape i think or something from loctite that will do the trick. I forgot what its called though
-
just use that solder suck wire as much as you can then use youre tinned wire to just run through it. Either that or heat up the pad while putting the wire though it so the solder in the pad melts
-
what? of course it matters. The 5v is your power connection and your D- is part of your data connection. if you even remotely try to plug that in you'll get a usb not recognized warning. Also don't ever solder 5v and gnd together either. Just keep those usb wires separate. like i said tin your wires, your life will be 10 times easier watch this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I_NU2ruzyc4

you can use any wire that you want actually if you're just connecting between the cthulhu and the xbox usb. I prefer using some 22 awg stranded wire because you can tin it easily and it'll fit in snugly to both the madcatz pcb's usb holes and the holes you'll need to put into the chtulhu. Like i said, take a look at that dual mod pic, the 4 colored wire stuck on the right of the pcbs is the wire i used to wire them up. If you're afraid of how much wire you screwed up when you did your "practice run" all you have to do is strip some more wire out. Use that original wire because there's a buffer already in there. Wait a sec, are you going to keep a dedicated USB wire on the stick and have a pass through neutrik?

no problem at all, if you need any help just ask, its the best way to learn this stuff. either that or research it for like 3 months on SRK like i did
-
well the worst you can screw up is to fry the board and have to replace it with a fightpad's board. And if you screw up in any way just post up your problems on the cthulhu/chimp thread on SRK and some generous soul like toodles or jdm14 or gumowned will help

I'm actually pretty tempted just to say ship all of the parts and stick to me and I'll do the mod for you but it'll be a good experience for anyone into fighting games to do this sort of thing at least once.
-
you'll definitely need to fix that wire up for the mod for sure. like i said before, suck up the solder in the joint with a solder braid / bulb, tin your wire and solder it back in.
-
Its a bit complicated to do it in your head without the parts in front of you agreed. Better to fuck up in your head than fry your circuit board to smithereens

that's what that picture i sent you from yfrog is for http://yfrog.com/5ychimpmadcatzp This will show you the pinout of the back of the board in your TE so you can solder your wires to it. From there, just solder down the corresponding wires from the 360 board to the Mcthulhu the Chtulhu is already fully labeled out for you so its all easy peasy shampoo squeezy
