  1. Well, it's not the rate of gain that differs for burst and OD, its the fact that youre literally left with about a third of your burst gauge after burning it on OD rather than bursting. I could pretty easily verify this myself though, i was just being a bit lazy haha. Ill check up on it in a sec, finishing hw :> edit: yes, od guard cancel indeed leaves you with a third of OD. i feel like ill be using it a lot, hahaha
  2. well first off thats a bit specific, since that would mean doing an immediate GCOD (if they stagger their cancel at all, youre in a bad spot cause the flash gives away your reversal ability before they commit) on something that is extremely slow, so im wagering with a slight stagger so that you dont get a superflash on your opponent's first possible cancel frame we are talking about ~20+ frames total, where...you are most likely already out of blockstun, meaning can and should probably just yukikaze without blowing the OD. GCOD used defensively is best for going through an anticipated move, but it has a lengthy total duration so it only ensures punishes on a few whiffs. Well, that isnt really an OD thing, but yeah it still combos. They wouldn't take that away from her, lol. but...sorry to be the bringer of bad news but to me it seems like the strike fall > phorizer link is actually tighter this version if anything! The minimum height requirement still exists, unless you blow the extra star to astraea (careful with smp!) one of the best uses of GCOD tbh just seems like you can guess with it to gather frame advantage, punishing isnt really super necessary for most characters. to be honest, i think GCOD with izayoi is extremely strong, between her having a DP, 7f big damage comboable super, godlike backdash, and passive gain with GCOD. No matter the situation, you gain some kind of benefit for guessing with it. At the bare minimum, you gain stocks, but if you see your opponent doing something you have a lot of options to either attempt to return to neutral, reversal, or punish. Even if your opponent has cancel options during your superlfash, she still has ways to RPS while gaining stars, so it's a very good guess to make. I dont really know off the top of my head, but does it take the same amount of burst gauge as normal OD?
  3. Well, old OD Astraea and strike fall had buffs that really were never mentioned/differentiated (no data/mention in the mook either), but as far as the tager thing, i think him getting gp on the same frame as the hit must have prevented him from going into hitstop (i feel like this specific guard point interaction happened with some other chars), allowing him to slow her down earlier (more stored momentum) then a wallbounce + od strength magnetism = ??? So, if anything i'd wager that its more of a result of distance from corner + new od 5D rather than subtle OD properties. there were a few unlisted izayoi OD changes too. Afaik, nothing was really mentioned about her OD changing, but durations and return were changed pretty heavily (notably, her ODGC stock return is really high making it a pretty good choice, but it seems very backloaded now where early OD return is lower), phorizer wallsplat was removed in favor of slide (so you can place your opponent into the corner with D teleport despite D teleport always crossing up, its wonky looking but hella consistent), strike fall hitting mutliple times was unmentioned im sure, the "new" astraea as well. Hopefully they have separate info given and shit but yeah. not that there was info given on these things in the first place either, though hahaha. Then again, as far as unlisted things about her go, this is like the tip of the iceberg orz

  6. i just wanted to stress that in 1.1, she is really strong. like, really really strong. like, IMO Top 5 strong. Undeniably a "real problem" already. Also arakune? i dont think any of those matchups are bad for her, to be honest :> Arakune actually feels like a good match for her. Like, there is actually no reasonable way i can see it as a bad matchup haha

  8. sp00ky will be handling the stream this month! woo, i wont have to do it yes great
  9. Yes, february will be waseda 2v2 for all asw games. unsure about the rotating game, looking like dfc or ah3???
  10. Happy New Year! Sorry for posting the thread only 2 weeks in advance, super last minute orz. been running around with my head cut off (still enough time to go ham for new years i guess). But first a few important things to know! Results: I'd like to point you all to my challonge account! ( http://challonge.com/users/superkawaiidesu ). If you'd like to reach individual results, or check the progression of the tournament as it goes along, you can access things through the template of "challonge.com/<first 3 letters of month><year>TSB<initials of game>". So for example, this month's under night would be "challonge.com/jan2015tsbuni" and last month's persona would be "challonge.com/dec2014tsbp4". Thanks! This month, i'd like to try using Phrekwenci's NEXT UP ( You can find a rundown here! http://www.dustloop.com/forums/index.php?/page/index.html/_/home/nextup-tournament-automation-organization-r464 ). I may not use it for XRD because it would likely be the biggest tournament, but i'd like to try it out for blazblue, at least. Last month was a bit of a doozy but we ended pretty quickly. I want to try something a little different as far as formatting, so GG is going to start at 3pm this time instead of 2pm. BlazBlue is going to be the first game run, and is going to run with NEXTUP if possible. Signups for BB start at 1:30! As far as the rotating game schedule, because under night had the fewest amount of entrants im going to start rotating with that. Next month, i'm going to replace under night with another game (DFC? Arcana Heart 3? Maybe even...ACR, or some kind of exhibition type deal. I'll see!) but it WILL BE BACK IN MARCH. so if you want to come for the under night tournament, this is your chance for a minute! Ill figure out how i feel about rotating the games, but yeah. Heads up, February is going to be team tournaments, so make some friends this time?! Location: Next Level 4013 8th Ave Brooklyn, NY 11232 Equipment needed: PS3's! 11. Also a heads up, i want to try Next Up next month! One thing that has me worried is the reception at next level, if this turns into a disaster its ok! We're trying!! Pen and Paper will always be there!!
  12. Sorry! Im a bit unsure what time we're gonna end, and i have no clue how many people will show since new game + holiday timing. Also i am new to this. I dont intend to wait on every game for top 4 to run on stream, but if theres time before 8pm i think it should be OK. In any case, I'm hoping to be done streaming xrd top 4 (along with the top 4 for the other 2 most entered games between p4/bb/uni) AROUND 8? Thats the dream, anyways.
  13. well, i mean defense is crucial with any character. you cant just pick a char without a reversal and go "this life sucks" lmao. even with reversal chars, i find myself disrespecting more with izayoi because of higher reward. Don't really know what you expect a DP to do for you in most matchups, on your opponent's behalf its another thing to punish for bad usage. Still have to play well, and her DP isnt quite the fastest/just do it hitbox so...yeah. I really dont think you can blame any aspect of the character in this version aside from very specific matchups but honestly she seems harder in 2.0 lol, stock management and planning is more important due to high damage confirms really being expensive. Low damage confirms are more effective than before, but if you dont really plan ahead you'll probably be out on either stocks or damage. hits seem to give you less stock return, etc etc. before, you could hit someone once in normal mode and get 3-4k with 6 stocks and knockdown, and you'd kill them in 2 combos. You only needed 3 solid hits to actually seal out a round. Now? we're looking at 2, even 3 more mixups per round. Damage is lower, stocks are more valuable. Shes more well rounded with better tools, but you definitely have to put in more work with those tools. regardless, those damage figures are definitely a lot lower than 1.1. im 99% sure there are better conversions but yeah. most 2 stock combo damage previously will cost 3 now, which is alright due to not needing like CH and stuff. Since 1 stock damage is up anyways, it isnt...horrible. 5b maxrange hit is down /700 damage/ if you go by that combo, so yeah. 623B combo damage is also significantly down, around 700. When you say that about her having no damage, its definitely not comparable to before off those combos lol. phorizer midcombo is an old thing. maybe better now due to how restrictive combo routes are (before, you only gained a small amount of damage) but it wasn't quite as good of choice because of how meter cooldown works, and in order for phorizer to give you significantly more damage you'd need to use it earlier in the combo (earlier than he used it). Previously, your combo routes were so freeform and did so much damage that phorizer like that was pretty much useless. Now, I can only see it really adding damage off close confirms (5B 6A Phorizer) but you end up sacrificing any meter you'd gain in the middle of the combo. Theres probably some good middle ground for blowing meter and getting damage, but if they burst then suddenly youre just like "why did i do that" and youre out on meter, so thats another thing to take into consideration. But yeah, the reason why that might be preferable now for raw damage is because the loss of 236B air hit letting you get a lot more high p2 moves into the combo using phorizer to link them. Still costs an extra star, tho. also the burst thing, serizawa could have just bursted earlier lol. also he rc'd which is pretty much just a hard bait at that point.
  14. no, sadly haha. i was mentioned in the booklet as a player to watch for, despite not going (woop woop). mainly a money thing, got a lot of offers to fly out but i dont really want to accept stuff like that. also i moved your post from the video thread, sorry!
  15. well, as far as comboparts, yeah. theres a bunch of stuff i never really got to post up :< so talking about pressure, just think about how someone reacts. what are they reacting to? are they option selecting on their defense? Its a bit deep, but ill try to keep it concise. Her overhead is...extremely hard to blatantly react to. There are about 14f of distinguishable animation of her leaving the ground for jump B, even less for jump A (which is super buffed in 2.0 btw!). Honestly, GOOD LUCK reacting to that. You want to consider what comes before it too. Theres jump startup, and the overall situation required to connect with the overhead. So what are they really reacting or responding to? Gaps, maybe. One way to make pressure way stronger is return to neutral state (2C, 5A/2A, post IAD jA are all best) and /delayed/ low. Stop them from jumping. You can airthrow, air trm (jA Throw) etc. Overall, what backs up how scary your pressure is is your damage. Stagger all your cancels, make them think they can get hit for jumping at ANY TIME. That fear is what should keep them afraid of pressing buttons and stuff. 2B low profiles most mashes, and after a low jump C, jump B is a sub 4f gap, which means it even beats jump startup. Its an extremely strong situation. If you showed me videos of your play i could probably more accurately critique, but learning to work with how people optimize their reactions (and punishing it!) is important. Izayoi has the tools to blow that stuff up. You have to earn the respect first, though. My mixup also extended to beating fuzzy mash/fuzzyjump. The kind of idea behind "fuzzy" input is inputting something during another anticipated state. Commonly this is during blockstun, so something like fuzzy mash or fuzzy jump would be attempting to mask the input during blockstun or something. However, its still anticipatory. Theres a part against dora i do astraea RC 2C. Technically, there's no reason for me to do that on a very basic level. I have the blockstun. Wouldn't it be best for me to go for mixup to make the most of my frame adv? but he bit. If you fuzzy mashed after instant blocking astraea, it doesnt have enough blockstun to frame trap you for dash normals, so you can mash her out of something like dash jB. But if i RC'd and went low or something to try to keep pressure, he wouldn't have gotten the input due to being in blockstun (if i timed the low in accordance to the overhead, i would have gotten mashed out) so instead, i counted on him trying to disrespect. He could have also 6D'd or jumped, but it wouldn't really have amounted to much. If he mashes on the first frame, on trade, you have enough time to pick up with 2A or 5B (stand/crouch). Unfortunately he didnt even get the 5A on the first possible frame, and just ate the 2C CH raw and ow. There was also another situation where he tried to fuzzy jump (inputting jump then immediately returning to downback during pressure in response to certain things) after 2C. I did 5A (which did not hit jump startup!). I figured he would have fuzzy jumped there, so i just let 5A recover and went for jB (lol) and that worked out too! This is the reason why IAD normals (jA specifically) off 5C and stuff are a lot easier to react to, and are generally considered more "pressure" than mixup. The overhead is just too slow (unless you do it from a normal as a double jump). You can do some cute things with the situation as well. Overall, the pressure meta is very respect based for her, but you have to take care to make things ambiguous and actually compliment your pressure game with the proper alternatives (and identify those alternatives through your opponent's best options). dash normals lol, it might be gone in the next game so you might not want to practice it, but pretty much they require the dash and input to come out on the same frame (0f discrepancy) so the only way to do it for moves that dont involve a 6 motion is buffering it through stuff. so during jC recovery you would buffer the dash, when you are first able to act buffer the 5C and viola. Its just timing, lol. You can 0f dash 236A, 236B, 236C, 623B, 623C, 6A, 6B, 6C from neutral. You can also put dash momentum into jumps and superjumps, lol. pretty tricky for left right with that. and max damage combos hit super hard. 5b is like 4.7k in the corner at max range for only 2 stars. i never see anyone do the combos i do lol so damage is DOWN on most 2 star combos, but up on one star combos. We can see huge damage drops (maybe? i feel like nobody truly optimized combos yet) hovering around 500 on better starters to 300 on worse starters for max damage. 6A usage can mitigate some of this, but i really havent seen anything good with 6A yet. But, midscreen damage should be higher with the proper combos. Pressure is better (significantly better, wao), neutral is a bit easier, but its a bit harder to gain stocks on hits midscreen (unsure, i feel like char development is so bad lol). Also we have a DP.
  16. almost none of this stuff applies in 2.0 lol, combo routes in 2.0 have barely been fleshed out, different combo routes available make you wanna approach confirming differently. i can put up something solid later, but thats after we actually get 2.0 lol btw, combo rate has no actual effect on this. character combo rate only applies to damage.
  17. http://youtu.be/nX27vEOeLlk i also played him in winners semi's. you can see me get nervous and sloppy in winners finals too, lol. like if you actually thought the character you were playing was not viable or something i dont really know what to say about your analysis lmao i didnt play as cleanly in gf, but theres probably a lot to gleam regardless. i can kind of explain my thought process in the match as it goes along if that helps anyone.
  18. To be honest, I feel like kino is very simple, and very effective, but for certain character pairs she loses out to others. I think Kirino/Leafa is way better than Kino. I think Kirito/Alicia is way better than Kino. Overall, Kino doesn't augment pressure or mixup very effectively for a lot of characters (at least, in comparison to other key assists). 5S neutral presence is super good, but it's not very threatening in terms of reward without a committed approach. It's good for randomly guessing and hitting some assists, but at the end of the day if a pair loses in neutral thanks to Kino 5S (Whether it be dependence on assist where cooldown would hurt, or not being able to properly cover the assist) it probably isn't a good pair in the first place. Not a lot of discussion on assist positioning, which is one of the huge reasons why kino is so good. It's also why Koko is pretty damn good too. Izaya is pretty interesting, but overall i think he's very weak in regards to the capabilities of other assists. I could probably say the same about celty, a bit limited, though her hitboxes are pretty good. So overall i think kino is really good, but I don't know if you can really say shes the best? I dont really know of any examples of cases where kino is straight up the synergy god. Shes like a really, really basic and effective assist. While this is probably ok for some characters, especially those who don't need assists (coughshanacough) a LOT of other characters have options with other assists that Kino can't really provide. If i had to make a pool of good assists to consider across the cast for like real, high level competitive play and synergy ability, the favorites (as mentioned) would probably be Alicia, Leafa, Koko, Kino, Enju, Kojou, Dokuro, and Accelerator. I feel like they pretty much invalidate other assists, lol. Assists like ryuuji, kuroneko, and mashiro just dont bring as much to the plate, but might serve better for VERY specialized situations. Overall though, i'd just take the benefits of the previously mentioned assists. JP seems to think pretty highly of dokuro and not as highly of accelerator, but I think he's just more specialized in terms of characters he actually augments well. Alicia is also the hot fire overseas. Izaya is pretty weak. Pai is okay, i think she's the only assist i might actually change my opinion of. Her 6S plays a really good role for a lot of characters, but I haven't really seen much of it being used effectively. Time will tell! Its not like these assists will all give you great mileage depending on your char, but i doubt there are any characters that wont find their best assist(s) within that pool. I think the best "all around" assists that give you simple, effective results no matter who you play are kino and dokuro, but specific pairs definitely go farther than them.
  19. Hi, i'm going to be doing the TSB thing now hello. I wanted to make a couple of changes to stream time and schedule, to make the event run a little more smoothly for the people in attendance. One big thing is waiting for actual games for stream time, as well as overall scheduling. I don't really want to go super crazy with changing things yet, so this TSB will be pretty much the same ol' but I DO want to make some changes for January. One thing i'd like to do is set up some of the less popular games on a rotating schedule, and also have a "super" TSB that runs 5/6 games (so, the usual plus the games on the rotating schedule) instead of the usual 4, but only do that like every 4 months or so. Still figuring out semantics, but all that stuff should be up in the January thread. However, for this TSB I'm only going to have 3 games on stream (Top4/6) instead of all 4. Obviously i want to focus on XRD, but in general i want to have the most recent game, and then the two following games with the highest entries (ill plan times around the previous month's figures, but we'll see on the spot), but i'll see how that pans out in terms of time. If we end up with a little extra time, we can stream the other games, but I don't intend to plan around it. For following TSB's, i'd like to have 2 games start at the same/slightly staggered timeslot, so please expect that format to change. As far as scheduling and streaming goes, this TSB will be pretty similar to what you've seen before (Waiting on Top 4 for Xrd, and 2 out of BB/UNI/P4). And of course, side events are always a thing! I can't guarantee stream time but you know I love me some DFC. If given the opportunity for something fresh (Grudge Money Match???), i'd love for it to be streamed! But yeah. Please excuse me while I learn the ropes haha. More in the January thread! Location: Next Level 4013 8th Ave Brooklyn, NY 11232 Equipment needed: PS3's! 20. if youre asking if shes like the best assist, hardly haha. depends on the character. other assists can do crossups, really depends on how its set up. theres still the neutral component of the game lol, even then this isnt like raw 50/50 mixup. an assists that compliments a character's approach and neutral is still really important, its just something you can do with certain assist pairings. Not every character can set up alicia for a mixup well/consistently, so yeah.
  21. lmao you dont have to apologize for anything, it was just advice. but yeah, this setup is much better! o t s u k a r e
  22. I looked into the alicia selvaria crossup, and using alicia in general for crossups. Theres...a really good amount of time before she attacks after she teleports, i actually tested the mixup on myself and it was not very difficult to block, if your mixup is based on differentiating what side she appears on. Great pressure tool, though. If you block relative to Alicia's direction, it doesn't matter what side selvaria is on. The only way to actually make this scary is if you made selvaria attack first (you want to be able to delay the assist call slightly for this, to prevent fuzzy guard timing, making moves with a lot of recovery on their last hit ideal for a true mixup), and had alicia consistently attack from the reverse side. Pretty much, need to abuse proximity guard like the traditional setups for a real mixup, along with actual variable timing for the left right. To be more specific, you want to differentiate between selvaria attacking on one side, or proximity guard crossup on the other, on a similar frame. I saw the alicia centric kind of setup in abelcru's video, but the other selvaria crossup vid (the one on this page) has a "better" structure. mainly wanted to clarify because it seems like people weren't actually getting the "mixup" portion but getting caught up on "crossup" but for true unreactable, frame perfect 50/50's, you want a situation with variable timing on the left right, making assists or setups that are easily reactable as to their timing (alicia, tomoka ice hoops) a lot weaker than they seem. If your opponent fuzzy guards from normal block direction to reverse, you have to hit someone in a 1/2f window where they switch their guard (if they switch their guard at all), which is...possible but...yeah. good luck. A bunch of the setups ive seen dont really take this into consideration. The best example I can give for variable timing on mixup is kirino and leafa reverse safejump C, with delayable assist call, frame advantage, throw situation before the crossup, potential for a totally tight blockstring, plus picking between leafa 5S or 6S, meaning if they fuzzy guard for the wrong assist call they will get opened up (cool, right?!). another edit: wowee what do you know, selvaria steered crossup jump C gives a similar setup, you can use alicia 5S with it if youre really fixed on her, but yeah. I highly suggest this setup over the 6S ones! tl;dr of my post -the alicia centric 6S setup is not fuzzy guardable, but it is reactable. -the alicia constant setups are "better", if you can delay her call by a few frames you have a "real mixup", but they can just look at and react to alicia's attack timing and fuzzy guard it (so you have to hit them in an extremely small window from the front to punish). i think the alicia position centric crossups can be good, but not because theyre CROSSUPS but rather that situation gives your opponent something else to look out for, so its stronger in that sense (in conjunction with other mixups). So, you may want to structure it a bit differently, and give yourself a bit of time/positioning to go for throw or something before the actual crossup (what i saw in the video was a meaty 6S hit, which isnt as scary as 6S should be).
  23. hahaha, a lot of crossup discussion. i suppose the video worked as intended! if you play kirino, i made a video on how she uses assists (namely, kino and leafa) and it has a good option select knockdown example and a bunch of leafa mixups, so even if you dont play kirino you might want to ~watch~ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fEDp6wPLyY4&feature=youtu.be
  24. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nYxlRteU338&feature=youtu.be made a quick and dirty video about how to exploit the crossup protection in this game. moves at a pretty fast clip, but yeah! its all there.
