Which Arturo?
-
Really bad defensive options and link timings are very tight (apparently even tighter in console version). Yeah, I wish there was more holding him back than just that (been saying that since like April *laughs* ), but I guess the fact that pretty much anyone can rush him down is better than nothing.

Nov 22 makes sense for a US release, though. Week of black friday (biggest retail day), brand new game on the shelves, $15-$20 cheaper than pretty much every other new game, calling itself The King of an entire genre, with beautiful HD graphics on the screenshots and a pretty blonde in red on the cover holding a love letter...that's about as "buy me, random gamer!" as you can get, especially if said random gamer has heard of Atlus as well. Pretty much any release in November or December is going to have competition out the ass anyway, so if they were going to delay just to dodge stuff, it should've been from Oct 25 to early 2012. Would've pissed the hell out of me since I've been looking forward to this a lot, but probably would've made the most business sense that way.
-
Atlus's staff had this to say on their forums: Paraphrasing, "We're saying there's no delay, but there might be." I saw one person suggest it was because EX Iori is a preorder bonus in Japan and this was to line up the game release with the DLC release. Plausable, but we'll see what we will see.

Yeah, the backdash thing shouldn't be too bad, since it's still not invincible at all. Just gets out of throws and really low hitbox moves like cr.B's or Goro's ground pound. My main worry is if it'll let characters like Kyo and Athena get fullscreen backdashes that are too fast to reliably punish by canceling into aerial command moves (annoying enough when Iori does this in older games with 3 frame ground startup on backdash), even though I plan on using NESTS Kyo myself *laughs* . Also, hopefully it doesn't let people cancel into instant divekicks that are also advantage on block from being so low (though I honestly never tried canceling the old backdashes with a dive kick...should check it to see how the momentum works out). But yeah, people mashing backdash on wakeup will be punishable, such as eating meaty C/D for okay damage and quick cornering and potential aerial reset into meaty mixup, having to deal with ambiguous meaty crossups, getting oki'ed by safe antiairs that can be comboed off (Kyo's 236K [especially if NESTS Kyo still has the old version with delayable 2nd kick], Liz's 623P, etc.), meaty j.CD (particularly if the character also has a midrange anywhere juggle), and so on. Nice that these options also cover things if they don't backdash, too, huh? Especially since certain DPs are getting nerfed back to the old KOF style (ie. weak versions only having upper body invincibility and/or tending to trade with meaties). I'm not a big fan of it and think that the old backdashes were fine, but it's not looking gamebreaking at my first glance. The thing I'm sad about is that it really limits using delayed grabs for oki pressure, and just when I was really getting really hype about Clark having a better version of his old frankensteiner with the guardpoint SAB. Ah well, at least it'll give a chance to get oki air throws *laughs*

Toronto: A Farewell to CS2 - BBCS2, GGAC, MBAACC 1.07, AH3 (Nov 13th)
omegaryuji replied to Leo7's topic in Archive
Probably in there for GG and AH3. I need some beatings in those. Dammit, Bill. -
Eh, I don't really play VSav seriously, just something that I mess around with when I want a change. Only things I'm somewhat serious about right now are KOF and HnK, with a side dash of seriously trying to learn GG (again, though it's being more difficult this time around *laughs* ). I mean, I know how VSav works and all, but it's not like I'm a secret white Nekohashi.
-
Alas, alack. Though the concept of something holy fucking something made of shit never ceases to amuse me.
-
By the time we get there and have a bit to eat, it'll probably be around 3 pm.
-
Sure.

The most epic thing about waterloo is the bizarro pocket universe that exists in the gracken's lair to allow for stuff like people getting locked in the bathroom or needing to login for the internet every time you go to a different page. So, who's place should I go to for this event, seeing as I don't know where this student life center is?
-
Yeah, I'm heading out there. Seems like Waterloo's been my destination more saturdays than not for the past 5 months or so *laughs*
-
If I dye my bodyfur purple, can that count as being a sEXEy beast?
-
CvS2 is there and it's Capcom.... So, more like just quality discrimination.
-
Madscientist, Lan, and myself play it.
-
BB at A&C sounds good to me since it means I needn't do anything
-
Always room for GG. Yeah, I'll let you know when I'm picking people up once who's coming is figured out to see if that's good for you. Are you just trolling the downies or actually up for it? <.< My location is dufferin/407, with dufferin/centre, dufferin/steeles, and downsview being possible pickup points if we can work out times (and who's coming *laughs* ). Dunno where else stuff will be going on. So, that's unsanc, Ernovaku (who I'm guessing would need someone else to play BB with?), and possibly Lan (via text message) coming to my place, plus comments I'm not sure how to interpret from Linear and Deadliest. Seeing as I can only host up to 5 people (and only give transport for up to 4), and people are also talking about something happening downtown, can we figure out what's really going on? *laughs*
-
Doublepost to check who all's coming my way so that we can coordinate transport.

All of these just my opinion (as a low/mid-ish level player) unless noted otherwise: Getting in is probably a little faster than 2002 since nobody in the arcade version can zone as well as 2002 Athena/Billy. XIII Billy might slow things down a bit, though, so we'll see, but overall, despite the larger screen and slightly slower movement (seems that way to me, at least), it's pretty quick to get in that ass. Feels like a lot of characters have some massive carry once DCs or BC mode come into play. Or, alternatively, just pick Maxima and throw fools coast to coast *laughs* Basic damage output is about the same in general for both, but overall damage output is higher in XIII thanks to drive cancels, EX specials/DMs, and BC mode no longer taking 2 meters to cancel into. Depends on the character, but it seems like a significant portion of the cast either has multi-part specials or can follow up with juggles/links after some specials (especially when EX versions come into play). I feel like part of the reason why combos are a bit slower is also because hitstop is generally longer in XIII than 2002 (might be a little biased since I've been using a lot of 98/2002 Clark lately and his cl.C has less hitstop than most C/D attacks). Still got some 1-frame grabs, and the usual fast stuff like Kyo cl.C is still fast, but some things like A/B poke strings seem slowed down a bit. Hard to quantify, though, and I think it's more a factor of the greater hitstop than actually slower animation times in most cases. Keep in mind that 2002 had some really fast moves (yay for 13 frame overheads with Vanessa/Yamazaki and 2 frame cl.C's with Iori/Kyo/Chris *laughs* ). Well, you don't have time to make a sandwich between inputs like Garou, but it's not as strict as 98/2002, either. From the bit of XI I've played (and based on what other KOF players are saying), that one and XIII have just about the same input reading. For rushdown/mixup-based characters (Yuri, Iori, Duo Lon, etc.), damn fast. Overall, I'd say the best pressure in XIII is on par with the best pressure in 2002. More floaty than 2002, but it's a lot easier to connect early jumpins into combos (similar to XI), so overall, the main difference I feel in jumping is the different jump arcs moreso than actual jump speed. About the same as 2002. Slower combos and greater hitstop are countered pretty well with higher damage output and (seemingly) faster meter gain, and trying to keep people out with fireballs is still nerfed by being KOF. This goes down a few pegs if someone is sitting around double-charging dropkicks with Raiden, though (at least until the console version comes *laughs* ). Edit: Latest partial changelog blog from SNK (translation by the Professor):
-
The emote makes me NSIS, but I'm a sucker for only reading what's literal, so, yeah, one trip out to pick people up and one trip out to drop people off is perfectly fine. Just refusing to go out/back multiple times. Oh yeah, also, definitely suggesting not having this TTT stream from my place, due to lack of space (both for streaming setup and for many players *laughs* ) plus not really playing BB personally.

Controls are like 11, without tagging. Gameplay is like 2002UM, with easier BC mode. System changes are like what other people said. I think the IP rights to Angel (and May Lee, and possibly Foxy) are owned by Eolith, which is at least part of why they're not in the games after 2002 (aside from 2002UM, where I guess SNK struck a deal with them). Jenet is mentioned in the women's team story as failing to get through qualifiers or something. I think Vanessa might also be mentioned in the story somewhere about being on a mission elsewhere, but I'm probably wrong on that (definitely do wish she was in though...would've fit nicely with the DC/HDC system). Malin probably just isn't popular enough to be desired and not obscure/"WTF?!" enough yet to get the Duck King/Raiden/Hwa Jai treatment. Also, for the pace, I'd say it feels slightly slower than 2002, but that might just be the built-in latency on the arcade version.
-
Like I've said, I'm up for hosting again on sunday at the same time (assuming the trains from waterloo haven't changed schedule *laughs* ), if that works for people. As a side note, though, I'm not making separate trips to pick people up again. Last time was a bit of a freebie since stuff wasn't organized well, but I'm not a taxi service.

Because context always helps, this is what Atlus's PR manager Aram had to say about the online demo video:
-
It was some Madcatz pad I'd picked up from EB Games about 5 years ago. I'm not sure how much it was, but I'm sure it was cheaper than the Sony PS2 pad, since I wouldn't have bought it otherwise *laughs* .

Yeah, if you guys can find somewhere more convenient to gather, by all means, go for it. I know my place is kind of out there (especially with lying google maps *laughs* ), and it's kind of cramped, and there aren't many options for places to eat without spending at least $20 or driving out 5-10 minutes, etc. I think Fugu had said he could host people, too...? Unsanc: you still on for GG?
